The RLLMUK Top 100 Favourite Films poll

Bah. Increasing it to 15 actually makes it much harder! My top 10 are pretty much set in stone - all of them have essentially been in there since I first saw them, so I never have to think twice about that list. When you get to add in another 5 all kinds of things charge in, jostling for position.

I've got some thinking to do :)

2. Akira

3. American Beauty

4. Blade Runner (Directors Cut)

5. Dawn Of The Dead (Original)

6. Donnie Darko (Directors Cut)

7. Enter The Dragon

8. Lost In Translation

9. Star Wars Trilogy (Original)

10. The Matrix

11. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

12. Lord Of The Rings

(I guess it will have to be Fellowship over Towers, I wasn't keen enough on King to include the full trilogy)

13. Princess Mononoke

14. The Beach

15. The Ring (US Remake)

I'm not into films a great deal but the first 10 I think are pretty special. The extra 5 were a lot harder to choose, there are probably another 5 that could be swapped in in their place. I also feel like I'm missing something, like a film that made me laugh hard all the way through. I'll be damned if I can think of what it was though.

It is depressing how many people are putting The Matrix.

Performance

12 Angry Men

Robocop

Taxi Driver

Aliens

Terminator 2

Dr. Strangelove

Big Lebowski

Blue Velvet

Full Metal Jacket

The Wicker Man (the original, obviously)

Mean Streets

Don't Look Now

Chinatown

Once Upon A Time In The West

I had a hard time whittling it down from twenty, I had to take out a Tarkovsky film when I remembered Robocop which was quite a nice contrast. I pretty much grew up with these so although I've seen many films that might better some of them since it'll probably be a few years before they can really displace them from the list.

It is depressing how many people are putting The Matrix.

Everyone has their own tastes, it would be a boring world if everyone was the same. Thankfully I'm not wanking over The Big Lebowski, which is popping up a lot ^_^

1. Fight Club - The final scene may be a little hard to swallow but the entirety of the film is pure poetry.

2. Battle Royale - Squeaky Japs on an island with guns. I wish I'd thought of that.

3. The Shawshank Redemption - Five-Hundred yards... that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile.

4. Go - It's a lot of fun despite having a ex-Grange Hill actor in it.

5. Casualties of War - Mickey J Fox proving he's more than jsut a sidekick to science-bothering mentalists.

6. Star Wars - No brainer really.

7. Unforgiven - A real insight into the concept of murder and what it really means. An awesome anti-western western.

8. Terminator 2 - The bad guy came back as a good guy - and Robert Patrick was an awesome casting

9. Platoon - War

10. A Perfect World - On paper, it's about a padeophile kidnapping a kid - in reality it's a feel good film

11. Forest Gump - I must had me about fifteen Dr Peppers

12. Crash - A simple, if protracted, take on racism that had me close to crying (almost cost me man points)

13. The Wrong Trousers - Wallace and Gromit for pity's sake. Shove Akira an all that faffy animation up your bum.

14. Leon - A hitman and ickle Portman - enough said

15. Dunston Checks In - A kleptomaniac ape loose in a hotel run by George Costanza - brilliance

Ooooh, I really want to see that now. Along with, The Parallax View, from someone else's list.

Parallax View is great, all paranoid moody conspiracy stuff. It's so well directed.

And it has the voice of KITT in it!
