Here's the scientologist's view of the documentary:

http://www.bbcpanorama-exposed.org

There's some interesting stuff in there (why was he shouting at John Travolta at a movie premiere?) which you didn't see in the BBC documentary.

Still don't trust the scientologists though. Not going to say anymore, otherwise I fear Tommy will visit me during the night.

Just watching that now. I love how when the narrator is reading a quote from somebody, like the judge about a third of the way in, his voice drops down an octave.

Surely neutrality would show Scientology up to be the cynical, mind-bending money-grabbing exercise that it actually is.

The Scientologists didn't want neutrality at all.

And that's the point - there was absolutely no chance of there ever being neutrality - for it to get the scientologists' OK, it would have to be 100% positive, as even the slightest criticism would be seen as an attack. and given that attitude, they didn't really have much of a choice.

I've just read a little about Hubbard on wiki. How any person with an ounce of sense could follow the writings of the guy is incredible. He was and still is completely discredited as a fraud liar and hypocrite.

He sounded like a horrible money grabbing wife beater who liked booze fags and drugs and writing shite pulp.

You can level a lot of shite at most religions but you can see why people could be suckered in to the grand stories of the bible quran etc and the overall bluff of those religions but c'mon Xenu and his dc 8's.

Batshit mental!

"Show me da money"

"So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!"

—Trey Parker and Matt Stone, servants of the dark lord Xenu, Daily Variety

Can someone explain the South Park story to me? Did they make an episode about Scientology but never get to show it, or something? Has it ever been leaked?

No, it was made and aired and the fall-out was that it became banned and Issac Hayes quit the show over it.

Has it only been aired once in the US? Has it aired outside the US?

I only saw it after downloading it from xenu.net.

As far as I know yes, only once in the US and Paramount Comedy did not show it when they ran season 9 in the UK.

Here's what the Panorama editor had to say about the prog

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/2007...entology_1.html

An interesting quote from the page...

"I'm now dealing with a situation in which the Church of Scientology has released a video to all MPs and peers accusing Panorama, of staging a demonstration outside one of their offices in London and making a death threat - or as they call it, a terrorist death threat - against Scientologists. The BBC, accused of terrorism."

Hardly. That film was far less convincing than Sweeney's report. Notice how it didn't contain any footage of Tommy Davis acting like a cunt, nor did it actually have any answers to the questions Sweeney asked the Scientologists.

I wouldn't trust a Scientologist to give me the time of day.

On the other hand, if anyone's braindead enough to want to join, fair do's to them - just because it's a new cult doesn't make it any better or worst than those alraedy established for rhousands of years.

Very few Christian sects in this country use the sort of tactics used by cults: separation/exclusivity and so on.

No, but they do get to fund and run schools (sometimes the only schools practically available), for example. Cults are reduced to brainwashing techniques because they have to make up for all that lost time; they only have a timeframe of few weeks as opposed to over a decade.
