Wii Mario Strikers Charged Football

Great advert for Mario Strikers Wii, showing a random bloke and his dad playing a game of football online against Ian Wright and Shauny Wright-Phillips, but will this be even possible with all the friends code nonsense?

Have any of the reviews for the game mentioned how the online side works? Since the individual friends codes have never been formally finalised to my knowledge.

If it's like DS games, then yes, you'll be able to play against randoms, but not communicate with them at all.

EDIT: and looking at the advert, then sending Miis is hardly "communicating"!

Yes, but they wouldn't be able to send friend requests or anything afterwards.

It is when you make Miis that resemble genitalia. Like 50% of mine (crudely) do.

SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Apparently "random" play is also continent-locked, so you will only be able to play with overseas players via Friend Codes.

Is it not the same as in Mario Kart DS - that is, you can choose?

I suppose the different TV standard may have something to do with that.

In any case - EXCELLENT.

There are four options in main menu: Friendly, Friend Roster, Ranked and Leaderbord. At Ranked option you can choose Series or Series with a Guest. At this point game will find a player for you (based on your past results), second option is probably for two-player matches. As game is not yet released, there are not many players online so it's not easy to test it, but it looks like 2on2 online with anonymous players is possible.

Thanks for that. We'll have to see how it goes on Friday then ...

surely its not even supposed to be a standing up game?

No, controls are quite conventional. Movement of Wii-mote is mostly used just for tackling (short twitch) and at megastrikes where you are trying to save the balls with pointing on the screen.

Jesus...

I think it's promoting the whole idea that Wii is more active than other consoles. Plus Wrighty had some campaign going about healthier living, so he might have insisted that sitting down would make him look bad.

If this is to football games what Mario Kart is to racing games is gotta be worth a punt right?

Or is that going to far?

Well, I believe it's based on Sega Soccer Slam, which is quite possibly the worst game I've ever spent money on, so I've not got my hopes up.

I don't think it is. I think's based on the GC mario football game which was developed independantly of the Sega football game.

Ah, I thought that the same team had gone from Sega Soccer Slam to the Mario footie games.

Actually, Eurogamer think so, too. That's probably where I got it from. And some other places seem to mention that the games have team members in common.
