Wii Mario Strikers Charged Football

You know, the game sounds naff to me. Maybe, in my mind, I can't shoehorn all the wacky (it sounds seriously wacky) stuff into a football game. It's gone beyond football for me. Maybe if it was Mario Handball or something I didn't actually like  ..

But when you lot are talking about your line ups like this, for some reason I really want to buy it  .

I'll probably break over the next day or two. Asda, £29.99.

It's a great arcade game - but forget about football, it's more like Speedball or plays more like basketball.

Go get it - you won't regret it (unless you don't like quick arcade games).

Am I the only one who comes away from a nailbitingly close online match physically trembling?

After certain matches i tend to realise my heart is trying to leap out of my rib cage, especially in those sudden death matches where any goal hit could go in

My line up at the moment is Waluigi, Hammer Bro, Birdo and Dry Bones, it seems to work out well seeming i tend not to lose by anything over 1 goal

I played a game online with a 5 minute sudden death. When I won with a Peach Megastrike I actually punched the air. I wish I could've seen the other guys face (multiplayer in the same room >>> online).

You see, most of my matches end with me punching the floor and swearing. My wife finds this amusing.

I need crap people to play. Big style.

we had a guest match online, me and my friend were playing a match, it came to the end 1-1 going into sudden death, we played for about 5 minutes before we scored. I think the roof came off our house from our cheers and air punches

I had 3 disconnectors in a row, one which won the first round and i was winning 6-3 the 2nd

but the last one i was 3-1 up and still got my 3 points for it, so if you were 13-1 you should get your 10 points for goals, should is the key word :)

This is great fun, fast and frantic, but a bit confusing so far. I'm all fingers and thumbs, trying to remember which button does what. I've added my code to the online thread if anyone wants a nice easy game!

I felt very much like you do now. It just a question of time. I haven't even played it much but after a few days i no longer do random things. The controls feels so solid.

This game's controls makes me think that the button layout of the wii is near perfect.

Bah. I'm annoyed that not only is this supposed to be good, but its not out in the US for ages, for the same price as it would cost me over here, and when it does come out I won't be able to play online with random Europeans.

Importing Nintendo products is usually a no-lose proposition, but not any more.

Quick everybody, start gloating before he can mention Super Paper Mario.

Been playing this today since about 10am. It's pretty good. The scoring system is totally shit (i.e. the megastrikes shouldn't be worth a goal a piece) and the graphics are wank but it is good fun.

Reminds me a lot of Speedball2 and Brutal Deluxe Football.

Is it sealed in Blockbuster or do they keep the games separate, as I am heading into town to pick this up in a moment.

They only had one copy on display, which suggests they have sealed ones behind the counter. Don't know for sure, though!

Saving megastrikes can be hard at the start, but you get better at it the more you play. A megastrike clean sheet is pretty satisfying, especially against an online opponent.

it's takes some skill (or luck) to get enough space to crack off a megastrike. Also, if you rush your megastrike charge, it'll unleash less balls and give the keeper longer to make a save.

It's very difficult to charge up a 6 ball super fast megastrike...

So MID - what's up with the balance? I've found it to be pretty fair so far... whenever I'm beat, it always feels as though it's me being rubbish.

Yeah, there are moments when you feel a bit robbed, for sure, but how often does that happen in Mario games? It's a Mario trademark... like being in 1st all the way in Kart, then getting shelled right on the line...

The local two player mode is much faster than the online version. It's a lot of fun.

What I'm disappointed in is the learning curve in 1p mode... from novice to pro is something of a jump up. I go from winning games 30-0 to losing. I also think the way they've designed the competitions in 1p mode is a bit crap. Other than that, I've been thoroughly enjoying it so far.

It's even worse than that. In the manual it says the reason they've restricted random matches to people within the same continent is because the intercontinental lag would be game-breaking. It also recommends you don't try playing against any friends you might have on the other side of the world, for the same reason.

So it looks like you importers will be limited to friends matches only for online play. I'm not trying to rub it in, just telling it to you straight, as Kid Creole would say.

I played a couple of online friends matches last night but it didn't seem to show up in my stats. Nobody appeared to disconnect early. Is this a common problem or am I just Doing It Wrong?

I'm just after playing a few matches online and in every game I came up against hammer bros spammers. Even this guy who seemed relatively new spammed the shit out of it, every few steps out comes that bloody move. You can of course counter it but it just saps the fun out of the game, really hope this crap doesn't become common place in ranked games.

Friendly games don't affect your season stats, if that's what you mean. If you want to increase your rank etc you need to play ranked games. I think every game you play is recorded on the stats shown when you select your Mii though.

I've only played against one Hammer Bros lamer - he'd knock all my players out of the way using the hammer smash move (I think it's called faking?) from the very back of his own half all the way up to my keeper, then perform his hammer skillshot to score. Earl's hold-back-a-bit-then-strike advice worked a treat, but he kept trying it regardless, and inevitably scored. Tedious.
