Wii Mario Strikers Charged Football

I thought it'd be a cold, cold day in hell before I actually wrote a letter of complaint to someone, but lo and behold I actually did it just now. Just tried to play a game online and wouldn't you know, borked. Saw red, wrote stinker of letter..... I need a shower......

Haha, excellent. Good luck getting a reply from Codestorm, though, if you're sending it to Nintendo UK. I emailed them about my cracked DS over a month ago and I'm still waiting for a response.

I wish there was a way to say thanks in this game.

Remember ages ago there was a weird Nintendo patent for some sort of speech recognition which could translate speech into text chat? I really wish they had implemented that into this. I'm not interested in actual voice chat with strangers, but being able to trigger simple messages that just appeared on their screen would be perfect.

Yeah I realize that, just felt good to vent. Don't think I'll ever get a response to be honest.

Last time I moaned to a games company was a letter to Sega about how thoroughly gutted I was that Bass Fishing wasn't a PAL launch title (yeah, I know  ) and how the fact that it was delayed had ruined my DC experience. It found it's way to head guy of some description and he posted me three Official DC magazines and the official PAL Bass Fishing and controller box set (which I don't think has ever been released, but some say it has..). Result :( .

But yeah, you'll be lucky to get a reply from Nintendo or whoever they're currently paying to shit on their European customers.

Anyway, I'm still not sure about Strikers. I'm not a massive online fan and the disconnects and server issues put me off further. Is their depth and longevity in the single player?

It was, I had it.

But yeah, Sega's customer service (run, I think, by Big Ben) was absolutely top-notch. They always replied quickly, and went out of their way to help you.

I might get this, from the sounds of it it's a bit like what NBA jam did for Basketball? Is it easy to find some of you guys online? Just enter that Strikers code that some of you have in your sig and if you're online, you'll show up on my system?

Yeah, that's a reasonable analogy.

Go to the online folder thread, add us, add your code then.......... you probably won't get on because Nintendo have buggered getting online!

Is it possible to control the direction of your shots? It's just that some people seem to manage to score from, like, nowhere, and I don't know if it's sheer luck, or if they're directing the ball past the keeper, or if they're getting their player in a certain position on the field to score more easily, or if they're deliberately passing it to a player better at shooting, or what.

Right, are the problems just with the servers being unreliable, or does it actually not work online for some people's Wiis? I'd be happy to buy it if I knew it'd be OK once the server problems were fixed, but not if I'll never be able to get online with it.

Just unreliable servers at the moment. Once you can get on it's an excellent game.

haven't been on tonight at all (bloody big brother!) - but must admit, I've never had anyone quit on me.

I think the -5 points thing for quitting and 1 point for simply playing to completion is a really good idea.

I've only played one game that was laggy - but must admit, it was really bad. Completely froze at times.

As an aside, I won the first cup last night in single player with the most hilarious goal. In sudden death, I tried jumping the keeper and got over him... but didn't make the goal. However, before I had a chance to hit shoot - the computers monty mole rammed me to get the ball from me and in doing so, knocked me and the ball over the line.

GOAL!

I lol'd.

I still haven't received mine from Powerplaydirect even though it was dispatched last Thursday!

Although, according to the delivery disclaimer on the dispatch email they sent me, I could be waiting a while:

Please note that delays can sometimes be caused due to adverse weather conditions such as fog

You know, this is actually very good. It's very well balanced and the online, when it works, is very solid. It's been working all day today so maybe the servers are sorted by now? *crosses fingers* I guess the real test will be this evening though.

It takes a while to adapt to how you need to play the game I think though. I don't think it's pick up and play at all, you really need to know what you're doing to get anywhere (online at least)

Hey there,

IS THE ACTUAL GAME ANY GOOD?

All this thread has taught me is that everybody is obsessed with playing the thing online. Which as Mariokart DS proved it a futile and ultimately dissatisfying pursuit which I have no interest in.

So HOW DOES IT ACTUALLY PLAY? WHAT IS IT LIKE? WHEN PLAYING WITH A REAL PERSON SITTING NEXT TO YOU?

Thanks.

its a good game single player wise, but multiplayers where its at, its the new Speedball 2 IMO

It's really good. I had no interest in at all, as I didn't for the GC version either, mainly because I like Pro Evo and didn't really want to play a dumbed down Mario version of football. I only became interested when I read some reviews/impressions and saw people were having a really good time with it. It's fuck all like football, but it's a game with a surprising amount of depth and different tactics to use and it's fast paced and fun. If you're only buying for single player I would be cautious, but I would give it a big thumbs up for multiplayer.

My wrists do start to ache after a while though. I think it's because of all the barging I keep doing.
