Wii Mario Strikers Charged Football

I get that a lot. You lose the result of the final game of the series.

Is it something to do with the other player disconnecting as soon as the game ends to avoid a loss. Four times its happened now and 3 of those have been wins for me.

I'm not really fussed about the leaderboards but would like to have an accurate record of my own stats.

I picked this up yesterday and got around to playing it today. I've completeed the training section and won the first cup and I'm actually enjoying far more than I thought I would. It's really frantic at times, but clawing back from 4-0 down in the semi to win 6-4 was a real gaming punch the air moment. I think once your head around the fact it's only half football and half speedball you can really start to egt in to it. The mega strikes aren't a problem either as many of them are savalbe.

Oh, and probably the best music in any game for an age. It really works a treat with the game and some of the crowd chants are nicely done too.

Just had the most annoying game EVER online. Opponent basically getting ball to Birdo, constantly uses his 'dodge' move which knocks anyone who comes into contact flying. Then simply uses Birdo's skillshot to score the most boring goal ever.

Did you try holding back and just getting in the way of birdo's egg shot thingy after it has dispatched?

Must say I had a game when my oppponent was doing Hammer Bros moves constantly, it was massively anoying.

I'm surprised very few people use Shy Guy. His skillshot where he knocks over the keeper hanging on to a Bullet Bill is ace. And can be started anywhere in the opposition half blasting through anyone on it's path. I score loads of goals using him. Probably anoying the hell out of people I'm playing aswell. lol

I've seen this as well, the guy picked all Birdos as well. You just have to hang back a little bit and time your tackle well, there's a split second where Birdo's vulnerable just after she does the move. Takes a little bit to get used to the timing but it'll stop the guy in his tracks. Same deal with the hammer bros move, you just have to time it right.

It is bloody annoying though and a very cheap way to play, don't see how you could get enjoyment out of repeating the same move at nausea. Thankfully these people seem to be few and far between.

Has anyone played with a guest yet?

Holy moly - it's waaaaay too hectic, especially on that arena with lightning!

i got a mate round for some last night, it was a lot of fun, and playing against other teams of 2 was great. You could tell when you were playing against a great double team

I'm loving this game, we really need to get a league going

Yeah I realised that holding off and tackling just as the spin ends would work, but as mentioned it sucked all fun from the game, and actually made me want to disconnect. Makes me wish they'd stuck with the original dodge move from the GameCube version, which actually required timing to pull off properly. Think I preferred it without the sidekicks having a special shot as well.

Picked this up this afternoon and couldn't connect. Finally connected this evening, what a wonderful feeling a sudden death winner is against a human opponent!

This game is brilliant. It also looks light years ahead of my other Wii games. Great stuff

Oh god. Everyone online is so good. It's like they're able to think about everything at once: where the ball is, where the ball's going, when to use their special move, when to use their items, whether to lob or not, when to knock each player out of the way. I can only think about one thing at a time. My ass handed to me? Raped raw, more like. And yet, on I play. Again and again.

That said, I did turn out to be playing the player ranked 3rd in the whole of Europe. Slimsheldy, I think he was called. In fairness, though, all his goals were varied. No perpetual Birdo skillshot moves or anything. He was just ... infuriatingly fast.

Well after cruising to through the first cup I got my ass handed to me on a plate on the second. Ended up bottom of my group and only managed to score six goals in the entire group section.

I tried to go online with it, but could only get as far as entering friend codes. When I tried to play a random I got a 'Network Disconnect' error (looked like it was timing out), which I'm not sure if it's a problem with Nintendos servers or my setup.

you know - a quick waggle will charge the guy rather than tackle. I've found that works most times.

Unfortunately neither help against Birdo's spin unless, as has been said, you time it to hit just after their move ends. Which is a bit of a pain when they're doing it constantly. It just seems a bit of a cheap move compared to the jump/roll/teleport moves of other characters. It's admittedly just one of those things that's always going to crop up in online play, so I'm not trying to have a go at the game itself.

thankfully, Birdo and Hammer Bros are quite slow though - so if you've got a decent playmaker on your team, you can get to them in time. I was wiped out by a guy playing as DK the other day. Pulling off a smash move thing which would floor my guys for long enough for him to charge up a megastrike.

great game.

Yeah getting to Birdo wasn't a problem, it just ruined that particular game for me. Just as an example, there was a point where I simply stood still next to him for a good 10 seconds, as he repeatedly used the spin move in the same spot. He would only actually move forward when he managed to hit my player out of the way, and the only passes he'd make were to Birdo. He won the games 3-0 and 2-0, having managed 3 shots and 2 shots in those games. Admittedly me being a bit crap going forward didn't help, but I actually had more fun losing 8-1 and 5-0 to someone who actually passed the ball around to create chances.

ah

all the stats seem to have been reset

Which is more anoying? People who always watch the replays or people who NEVER watch a second of the replays?

I vote the latter.

Don't mind the stats being reset if they've fixed the problem with the wins being lost at the end of a series. Not quite sure how 'marth' has got 1089 points since the reset mind.

I think the former on the replays if you're getting hammered.

Just lost 5-4 in sudden death despite a last second megastrike that got me from 4-2 to 4-4. Great game - this will sell by the bucketload.

it *should* sell by the bucketload - it deserves to... but I'm not sure.

If it does, then my faith in gamers is restored.

Edge 6/10... RAWLF

Not sure how it'll sell in the States but the Wright/Wright-Phillips advert for over here was genius.

But Dad.....Sean Wright-Phillip's Dad brought the game for him......

As for Edge - why review it without trying the online first. Are there any games they do actually like maybe with the new editior they can go three pages without having some crack about the Wii only having minigames or tacked on controls or selling well but to a different demographic to the PS3.

What's it like graphically? Just interested to know if it's any further on from the GC version.

It's not that far ahead graphically when you strip away the immensly impressive crowds that dominate the majority of pitches on the Wii version. In fact I popped the cube version in after a 2 hour stint on Charged and the difference is minimal.

EDIT - Looking at direct comparisons on the web (adjacent screenshots rather than my memory from loading each game) thw Wii version does exhibit some 'clean-up' graphical techniques that whilst discrete, do make the game look sharper. It's also worth noting that I am playing on a CRT with RGB and not on a 480p setup.

The sound effects and presentation are still way better on the Cube version.

there's a lot going on in the crowds - love the chanting that goes on when you get a character specific power-up! Serves two purposes - 1) reminds you that you have one in the first place and 2) tempts you into using it sooner than you really should!

That's it, I'm caving in. I'm trying to save money but it's time for another rllmuk-thread-inspired-impulse-trip-to-Tesco.

Yeah, me too. I was not too sure about this at first but after reading how everyone is enjoying the game and from the reviews I've read, I've also caved in and gonna get it today! At least it will give me an excuse to actually get the nunchuck out of the box which I have still not used.
