I just got banned from WOW again

Recommended Posts

Eagle eyed (sharp memoried) forumites might remember a thread I started about me being an idiot shortly after starting playing Wow a few months ago, when I used a lvling service to get an alt to 20 (laughable really). Anyhow, Blizz were very reasonable about it, though communication with them was somewhat drawn out, they ultimately reinstated my main character and told me not to be so silly again.

Fast forward a few months, now I've got a 57 priest, 31 mage, 25 war and 24 lock. I'm playing on the mage today when somebody asks me for '54s for something from the auction house'. 'Nope, sorry' i reply, prompting him to reply simply 'noob'. What I should have done is simply ignore him, however instead I called him a dick. Not the wittiest of retorts, but appropriate. One word whisper: 'dick'.

He reported me, and I just got a perm ban. Awesome.

But that's ridiculous, isn't it?

Calling someone a dick is a really minor offence. Verbal abuse (unless racism or something else really bad) is usually punishable just with a ticking off by a GM or, at worse, a brief suspension.

I suspect you used up the rest of your lives for using a power-levelling service. Blizz usually apply zero tolerance for that sort of thing so you were arguably lucky to retain the account from that situation. I guess after that your account had a big red mark against it so that any further minor infringement would meet with draconian punishment.

It sucks really that it was lowly scum-of-azeroth /spit beggar that killed your account.

(Seriously though, the levelling company must have thought their christmases had all come at once when you offered to pay for 1-20 of all things! What on earth were you thinking?!)

Man, I've said some terrible things to people in WoW. I've reduced 12 year olds to tears and graced the ignore list of more users than there are boars in Dun Modor. I've never been banned, though. That is spectacularly lame, #6.

What's Blizz's policy on begging?

I guess they'd say that people can do what they want - just like ninjas.

Yeh, I agree. Their heavy handed approach is rather irritating though: and it's not like not having people like me there does the game any good. It needs more grown-ups like me in there, truth me told. I see how it's my fault for being an idiot when I first played, but still seems somewhat harsh to continue to count that as a black mark against my name four months later. Esp when talking about such a very minor infraction as calling a dick a dick.

graced the ignore list of more users than there are boars in Dun Modor.

:)

Blizz probably have to cover their arses on this kind of stuff though. You can imagine at a stretch that player being some whiny little kid who might point his parents at the terrible sexually-charged abuse he's been exposed to. Cue Daily Mail headline.

Bit exaggerated that but y'know, just to make the point.

Ya, i hear you. though I'm not sure it's that. Some kid called me a 'fucking taleban faggot' (and much worse actually) last weekend, and he didn't get banned. The profanity filter is there to protect the kids.

I kinda feel like this guy might have some connection to someone at blizz: just seems so unbelievable that he'd report me for saying that, then that I'd get immediately banned.

Entrapment!

Devious, Blizzard. Devious.

Heh. Not too far fetched that he could either be a GM, or know one. Seems a pretty extraordinary course of action to take against a paying customer otherwise, I'd say.

Anyhow, I'm now having fun with the guy who reported me. I've created a new character (sneakalot the rogue), and I'm messing with his head. Hehe, this is fun: little research on the armory goes a long way... he's convinced I'm one of his dipshit friends. Haha.

I'm in a sympathetic mood and I feel sorry for you.

I'm pretty sure I remember a war betweek people like Marei and Brit where they would get themselves suspended for calling each other dicks and such. Was funny, and no perma bans were involved.

Tell them you thought it was your friend Richard!

Really I went off on one in general chat one time, when I was super pissed off, and only had a GM whisper me with the whole

"blah blah terms of service yada yada don't use profanity"

This seems a bit hash...

Yeah i'd say it was just strike 2 after the power leveling incident, *shrugs* maybe the GM flipped a coin, seems how most of their decisions are made. :)

Insert standard "I've seen / heard worse than that" reply here. I guess you were just left that little wiggle room after the previous one, that something as petty as this put you back across it.

I'm more amazed at the cheek of that beggar... Asking for money and then reporting people who didn't respond nicely. Surely "dick" wasn't the worst insult he got from that.

I managed to steal 3 gold off a beggar once. Trade window confusion = LOL.

I used to enjoy porting low-level beggars to far-flung cities - undeads to Thunder Bluff, orcs, trolls and taurens to Undercity. At a low enough level, one could be pretty sure they'd have *no* idea where they were when they zoned in.

But the most wicked act of cruelty I ever perpetrated was getting a particularly persistent and irritating beggar killed. I initially put him on ignore, then he started following me around Orgrimmar. So I took him off ignore, told him AGAIN that I wasn't going to give him money but - if he'd stop bothering me - I'd show him a 'secret chest' which sometimes spawned outside Orgrimmar. He readily agreed, and we went for a nice walk along the beach behind the Orgrimmar zep tower. Then we went swimming. We did a lot of swimming in the next 60 seconds actually, all of it down the way. Then he got a bit frantic. 'Up!' he cried. 'No, it's only a little further down.' 'Up up up!' 'Well, if you don't want the treasure, I'll take it.' 'NOOO.' Then the inevitable death-by-drowning. Undead racial > tauren racial, of course. He came trotting back five minutes later, demanding that we try again. I said I'd already looted the treasure, and linked a nice low-level blue which I happened to have in my bags. His anguish was practically audible.

Definite banning material, I think...

Seems a very mild swear to get a ban over, I've certainly used far more colourful language than that to idiots trying to ruin my day and the BG chats are full of swears, I guess the EU servers are a little more tolerant of it.

In everquest I got banned once by doing a similar thing.

Wizards teleports didnt work like WoW portals, you simply cast a translocate spell on someone and they went there, at first they didnt have a confirmation box (are you sure you wanted to be transported to xxx yes/no?) so you could run around simply beaming people around the world against thier will , fun for porting people out of camp spots and annoying beggars. Not all classes could gate back (equivelent of hearthstoning) and if you died there was no graveyard nonsense , you'd have to make your way from your bind spot (hearthstone inn) to the place you died to retrieve your body / kit. That got nerfed pretty fast :)

You could also still invite people into your group and group transport them which beggars invariably fell for time and again.

Another good onewas gettign people to type /ex for exit game , e.g put something in the trade window and whisper type /ex for exchange

Oh how I wish you could train mobs onto people in Wow :( The old gather up a bunch of mobs, run them onto a group in a camp you want and feign death never got old...

I saw a friend's Horde character in Alterac Valley the other day, and texted him to ask if he would tell their defence to type /camp. Worth a shot.

Thta was my fave passtime.

Is the Oasis of Mar, you had a lake in the middle. In the middle of the lake wa s atower with 8 mobs in it, all ofthem around lvl 50 or so. Now, this was a lvl 20 ish zone, so they would mean instant death for pretty much everyone.

Agro in EQ is slightly different, in so much that if a mob it chasing someone and goes past you, you will also end up on the agro list.

As soon as I hit 50 I started causing as much grief as possible.

I was a wood elf ranger. I would cast Levitate (so I could run accross the water) and Wofl form (50% speed increase) meaning the mobs couldnt catch me.

I would run over to the mobs, agro them all and head to the land. As soon as I got far enough from them I would cast Invisability (the mobs could still see me but players couldnt) and pull them through every single group of players I could find.

I think my best total was about 60 deaths.

Great fun!

One of the small pleasures I have in WoW is creating alts and begging of one of my mates, it's amusing as it degenerates into abuse after 3 whispers. I think you've been pretty hard done by if you've got a perma ban for that. You going to appeal it?
