You going to appeal it?

I've mailed them back to point out that is seems somewhat harsh, particularly given the much fruitier language you hear in game every day. Had the usual stock reply back, so we shall see.

I'd just pre-paid a load of months too, so if they do really keep me banned I'm going to investigate what I can do to get my money back. I know I signed a EULA that says I wouldn't call little begging arseholes such, but they've still taken money off me for something they're not providing.

Their customer service really is absolutely terrible. Dangerous game to play: they're top dog at the moment, but nothing is guaranteed.

Some of their reps on the official forums, insult, belittle and patronise every single player on there. They also lie through their teeth.

Soon as WAR comes out I doubt I'll ever look back.

You think so? From reading the preview in Edge it sounds like a cross between a 3rd person action game and a RPG. Doesnt interest me at all tbh.

WAR on the other hand sounds like genius to the power of genius.

There is no point getting worked up over forthcoming MMOGs , they inevitably dissapoint, see Vanguard for a classic example.

I am excited about WH40k tho, just for the change of setting, pty Taula Roas is getting less than stellar leaked impressions too :(

It's crazy for getting banned for something like that. I mean the profanity filty is on by default, he turns it off, hears a curse word and then reports someone for using the curse word. fucking lame. Personally I'd have gone down the "I thought it was my friend richard" route.

I'd have gone for "it was a typo, I was just saying 'sick' in incredulity at the nerve of calling someone a noob after you've tried begging off them".

Yup, that probably would have worked. NEVER admit to anything (I assume you did admit it to a GM). They find it hard to "prove" you didnt mistype something or that you didnt make a genuine mistake.

The biggest reason is probably cause you used a sexual swear word, as opposed to "bastard" etc. As minors can be playing, they view ANY sexual word as mega taboo no-go.

My eldest son (who plays a 70 rogue on my account) duelled another rogue after a big argument on the best spec  . He kicked the other guys ass 4 times in a row outside Og, much to the amusement of quite a few people from both guilds who went to watch.

The other guy got really pissed at this, and started the usual abuse (noob, turd, no life etc) but was careful not to actually swear.

As soon as my son got pissed off enough to call the guy a "homo" he got the reply "Ha! welcome to ban!" and sure enough within a few mins a GM came on and DCed him.

Soon I received an email saying the account had a 1 hour ban for swearing using sexual words.

Seems like blizz are pretty naive concerning things like this, and its not hard to manipulate them into banning peeps. The fucking dicks.

Greetings,

Thank you for your follow up email.

I have restored access to the World of Warcraft account KAIMAC. You should be able to log in with your old password.

Due to the lack of harassment found in your account's history I felt that the closure of the account was not entirely merited. Though, you were provided a Final Warning on 3-29-2007, so please keep in mind that any further exploitive and/or otherwise harassing behavior will likely result in permanent closure.

Additionally, while I do understand that you may have felt provoked into harassing behavior, I must still reiterate that all players need to adhere to the World of Warcraft Harassment Policy (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/?id=agm01719p) at all times. Rest assured that all parties involved in a reported incident will be addressed appropriately, including the petitioner if warranted.

Please be sure to maintain safe Internet practices and safeguard all World of Warcraft account information for the most secure gaming experience. Feel free to contact us with any further questions or concerns you may have.

Thank you for your time and patience in this matter and your continued interest in World of Warcraft.

Regards,

Lynolar

Took them 12 days, but I'm back :D

Looks like they handled it very fairly in the end.

I wonder how many thousands of good, bad and ugly customer support calls blizz handles every week......Anyways they mint gazillions of dollars so maybe they should invest in more support staff.

  • 3 years later...

I found this whilst searching for EverQuest (I've been messing with the free to play EverQuest 2 Extended lately) and I had to share this. One of the advantages of knowing a reasonably obscure foreign language (for me, Swedish) is that you can say things that you have avery, very good chance of nobody understanding. This extends to character names as well. I've seen some fairly innocuous ones, like "Ardusvensk" ("Är du svensk?" = "Are you Swedish?).

Well yesterday I was in a random dungeon with a player called Storakuken. In Swedish: The big dick.

I wonder if Blizzard will ever notice?

I've been checking out the starting areas for the other races and when I first logged in to the Night Elf zone, I was greeted by a toon called Belgiandildo; subtle, wouldn't you agree?

And SoE are notoriously slow to do anything about name changes. I was a very long time EQ2 player and there was a max level wizard on my old server called Muthafukka. Had that name for years and my old guild in SWG was called Catching Llamas In Traps. As the actual name was so long, we had to go by the acronym. Took the GMs a few months and lots of cheering and clapping at crowded starports before we were contacted by them.

I was a bit unclear. I was searching for EverQuest, but the names I gave examples of, including Mr Storakuken, were on WoW's very own Ravenholdt.

There was a guy on Draenor who had a character called 'Selvmord', which I'm assured is Norwegian for 'suicide' and which isn't immediately apparent to the English speaker, but the GMs still made him change it. Maybe it's dependent on the national populations of each server.
