Was thinking of buying the JP version of this. I presume you are all playing the PAL one? Just looking for info on the language barrier for the import.

No news of a US release either?

There's a lot of text - it's not very import friendly at all.

And yep, it's the PAL one, and there's no news of a US release. Annoying.

Bump (jump?)!

This turned up for me today, and after an annoyingly long time arsing about, I've become good at it! I had it in my head for a while that you had to drive in time with your horse's steps, but I've finally realised that's only on the harder difficulties. Doh!

I am however utterly shite at training my own horse. :)

i took a punt on this and failed - i played it for about an hour but i cant see that i'll get the motivation to play it again

admittedly, when i won a race, the finish was quite exciting, but in general, i find it a bit dull

I just got my tenth win, and I've been asked to be a regular rider for two horses.

It's a weird one this. It's really repetitive, but amazingly addictive. I have however decided that the training excersises are a load of rubbish. It seems almost impossible to succeed on most of them, meaning Mogster's Choice is going to be the worst racehorse ever.

I've now won three races on the trot (arf) but I'm still not convinced I know what I'm doing, so much as I've lucked out on easy races. Hopefully at least. I don't want to have mastered it 3 days in...

After training and whatever, it's really just a case of sticking to your horses preferred position, then sprinting down the last few furlongs, remembering to switch leading legs and stuff. The strategy comes from being able to set the right pace, so that you don't peter out at the end.

I swear that when I'm whipping my horses motivation is going down, what am I doing wrong?

Quite enjoying it though. Came first in the last mock after three 5th places - felt good!

So I picked this up today - took me 3 races to win my first race!

It's a bit frustrating at times, sometimes I seem to judge things PERFECTLY other times I'm well off the pace. It certainly takes patience, and boy - what a lot of riding!

Jury is still out on this bad boy, but its fun so far

It'll grow on you. Once you put some time into it, it'll just click.

How do I "Keep pace". I'm winning only something like 20-30% of my races, if that. Doesn't seem good enough?

So yes - can I maintain a pace? Cos if I keep driving the horse slows down/goes too slow/even loses potential?

Any more tips here guys...also whats the best way to finish at the end?

You shouldn't just keep driving. Just get your horse into its optimal position (in front, behind, or forward or behind the middle) and ease off your drive, or even pull back if you need to. Then just hold that pace until you get to the last few furlongs, at which point you can go all out, using a combination of strong drive and whip, remembering to switch leading legs to get the most out of your horse at the end.

I find, if I do the training and boost the horse's form - I usually win.

My forte horses are the first arrow and third arrow. I'm not too hot at 2nd or 4th arrow horses.

Christ, some of the jump courses have mahoosive slopes and hills!

Another thing - the training. I'm rubbish at it! I just can't keep a steady pace for most of those challenges.

All i EVER do is the "Start" training - then I get 3 excellents get a better start AND it increases form...

Any training help?

What do you struggle with?

I struggled with the ones where you have to ride with other horses, until I realised there was a bloody radar thing WHEN you get really close to them. I just wasn't close enough before and couldn't work out what was the problem.

You can also restart at any time (button 1, I think) and have a little practice, if it's pacing you find difficult.

Go for the sprints - just hammer it home!

Yeah, the ones where you have ride next to another horse for a set time can be difficult. Infact, quite a few of the training activities can be a little frustrating. "Get to the finish as fast as you can", now that's an easy one!

Right. After my constant "I DONT GET IT" posts I got it. Finally.

A fat lot of help you guys were! I couldn't work out how to keep a constant pace, right? Well the nunchuck is like a throttle isnt it. You push it forwards, you speed up. You pull it back, you slow down.

So I didn't realise this (and you lot didnt mention it, it seems?!), and so my natural nunchuck position was holding it backwards slightly. So the horse was always slowing down. Then I'd drive to catch up, be too tired, etc.

Now I see I can change my pace easily and KEEP pace which is important.

And now I'm winning easier, and the game is more enjoyable.

Glad I worked it out myself!

Mogster said something along the lines of it earlier in the thread. Also i'm pretty sure they explain it in the tutorial, or did you just avoid them?
