I don't believe he had Covid in December - I think the issue here is that the Serbian Government are basically lying on his behalf, which makes this a diplomatic issue. The Judge would have to take their documentation at face value.

Well its still a story that's got a lot of attention, I can't see Australia attempting to deport him again without consulting some serious lawyers as they've already been made to look like fools once. It's great advertising for the tournament that's for sure! And just goes to show if you're rich and famous you can get out of a sticky legal situation much easier and quicker than say a stranded refugee.

lim sure he’ll appeal. Doubt he’ll get to the end of the tournament though - lying on your visa form sounds like straightforward grounds to dismiss.

Djokovic also admitted making a false declaration on his travel form prior to entering Australia and said his team has provided additional information to authorities.

He said his agent had made a mistake when filling in a section of the form that covered his recent travel history. The form stated that he had not travelled in the 14 days before his arrival in Australia.

But recent reports suggest the 34-year-old was in both Serbia and Spain prior to the trip.

"My agent sincerely apologises for the administrative mistake in ticking the incorrect box," he wrote. "This was a human error and certainly not deliberate."

 

If so anyone could use it, I can't see how you can argue against that. Regardless of who made the mistake the form was his.

I have a feeling the most likely beneficiary may be Zverev, though I'd love to see a breakthrough for someone new.

 

While I don't really want Nadal to beat Fed's record (though it's probably only a matter of time) I do very much hope that both he and Murray can mount serious runs here. All this shit has underlined how lucky we have been to have had brilliant players who are genuinely good people too.

Murray is looking good over in Sydney right now so hopefully he can carry that into the Open itself. Might well have an all-Brit final in Sydney even! (Yeah, I know it's only a 250.)

 

I'm fine with Nadal going past Federer's record if only because it gives faint hope that he'll then hold Djokovic off.
