Post Your UI!

Nice Tzi, very nice. Be interesting to see if it can stay as uncluttered as you level and get more abilities. :(

Yeah, I've tried to plan ahead as much as possible. It should be okay, quite a few of the abilities on the action bar are there just to fill space at the moment. The pet summons, for instance. I have a seperate 3x3 Geist bar just for everything summoning related that pops up underneath the mouse pointer when I hold down tab. I'm trying to get used to using key bindings almost exclusively so I may even drop the main bar down to one row and use it just for abilities that don't need quick access.

My most recent one, more of an update of the last one rather than a total redesign!

Looks nice. I might steal your EavesDrop placement. What are you using to give the buffs a border? I've seen a couple of UIs with it but neither mentioned what it was.

p.s. Remove the border from Grid. ;)

Buffs are Buffalo, with the CyCircled add on which are giving them and my buttons that style. I'm going to keybind a lot of stuff as well, I don't want many buttons on screen at all so if I start binding early on, I should be able to get used to it quite easily.

Border is now removed, didn't notice you could!

I struggle massively to get Zurgy's UI to be neat at all:

This is what it is at the moment which as you can see is kinda cluttered. I'd like to simplify it a bit but everything on there I use and so can't work out how to do so.

Any ideas? (The main action bar is actually paged too so it changes when I press the Shift key to show a load more spells)

initial thoughts:

Omen is too big and wide, shrink it down, insert it into the gap between your buffs and your cooldown icon things. Also recolour the red panels so that they're not so...in your face. You can just make it like, a 80% transparency black and imo it looks a bit neater like that. Same goes for SWstats, it's a bit too wide, make it the width of the minimap maybe. I'm a big fan of things lining up.

The system panel thing that pulls up settings, spellbook, character pane etc isn't really necessary, so hide that. Well, maybe you're different, but I am just so used to keybindings for those things. Then you can move the combat log down a bit.

That's what I'd do. After that, well, shrinking down buttons and stuff.

I've often found that when I just put the buttons on my UI, I can always live with them being smaller and always make them too big to start with. just a few % smaller would make a large difference.

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to reply ;)

Nimmel is right about Omen, I like it to be in my face and normally it & sw stats would be hidden. My aim was to get omen as close to my cast bar as I could as thats what I spend most of my time staring at.

I had a fiddle about and came up with this (before reading your post, although I did some of the things you suggested anyway):

Which is a little neater without taking anything away. It'll do for now until I actually sit down and work out exactly which spells I actually use and which I think I use but actually just sit there taking up space. The comment about making the buttons smaller is good though, I've never thought about that before.

I'd second everything Cowfields said. There's a few addons that could also help you save space. I noticed a lot of your consumable slots are greyed out because you're out of stock. I'd recommend checking out Autobar, it's an automactically adjusting consumables bar. It only shows items when you have them and groups items of the same type together (i.e. the food button will show your best food but when you mouse over it a drop down will appear showing all the food types you have). It can also be used for pets, fishing, mounts, teleporting, player summoning and pretty much any item you like as well as providing buttons for creating health stones and conjuring food/water.

Another space saver is Geist. It gives you a square action bar (adjustable in size) that pops up centered underneath the mouse pointer while you hold down a key, which is great for those abilities that don't need to to be shown all the time but require relatively quick access such as pet summoning, mounts, buffs, etc. Also, most action bar mods will let you set bars to only appear when you mouse over them which is another good way to hide away the less important stuff.

If you want a less intrusive combat log, check out EavesDrop.

Your UI is very bottom heavy. You might want to consider moving some of the none essential stuff such as the mini map and the trade skills bar into the free space at the top.

Also, this is purely an aesthetics thing, but you might want to make your ElkBuffBars, Omen, Pitbull and Quartz use the same status bar texture. They're all Ace based so they should have access to the same textures. If you want a wider choice install SharedMedia. It will add extra textures, fonts, backgrounds, etc to all your Ace addons. I'd also suggest using a softer border for your panels.

Ooooo, Geist looks really nice. Reminds me of Sprocket, that Add-on was sex.

Have to get Geist for Loki and Vincént though. Would be nice for putting Mana Gems and general Buffs on there :)

Yeah, it's a great. It's much simpler than Sprocket though. That was such a great addon, shame it never got updated for WoW 2.0.

Yeah I had the same problem because I'm guessing it's supposed to be attached to the map and my map is now over the other side. I'm pretty sure when a few add-ons are updated you will be able to reatach it to the map wherever it is. I'm going to totally re-do my UI I think, I have just been waiting for this patch. I intent to ditch a few things and get some others. Stay tuned!

WTF is this new tracking thing?

Its showing up on my Elkano's buff bar and I cant get rid off it.

Type /ebb config, and you can disable "Tracking..." from the first buff group. I can't remember the exact way, but I did it last night.

Guys Ive been looking at some of your UI and since the patch mine has restored to default, I was thinking of upgrading, giving my UI a facelift. Ive been trying for last while to get one that suits and fits to what Im using most etc.

Can anyone either recommend me a good step by step guide to UI (preferably towards a shammy who uses totems etc) I've tried to follow the ones that are on the WoW Forums and it never seems to work for me. Has anyone seen any good shamen UI packages?I've come across some on curse gaming which look promising. Is it really a trial and error and what you feel comfotable with?

Personally I prefer putting together my own package rather than downloading a prebuilt one.

Though it does involve some trial and error, I find it best to do your own simply because this way you can set up buttons, unit frames etc in a way that suits your own play style, screen size, personal tastes.

Pretty sad too, but I get a lot of satisfaction in building a good UI for my characters.

thanks guys, was playing around with it last nighyt and I think I got a nice on on the way, only thing I need to do is learn how to get rid of the main bar. i.e the 2 gargoyley things and then install a threat metre. Seeing as running Kara now I might need it at some point later on. For now i think Kara sees a dead cat as a bigger threat then me :D

U should use af_unitframes and bartender. bar tender will remove the gargoles and give you about 8 bars worth of buttons to play with

af_unitframes is just some nicer looking player, target, target of target etc frames that you can move about. You can also get diffrent layouts for them off wowace.
