Do it in manual. Stay in gear as long as you dare before shifting up (7,000 ish I think). Stay in slipstreams, first corner go wide. You'll go round four. Come in, get behind the first, go to overtake left and someone else should be there who you can slipstream off as well. Go round HIM and then away you go. Towards the end of that stretch you should be hitting 162mph ish. If you are you should get at least second.

Can anyone tll me how, in the name of the wee man, that I can get a Honda Integra type-R '04 rouns the high speed ring in one lap, getting from 16 to the top three, please? This in Class B, btw. I've had about 20 shots at it and the closest I can get is 6th. I'm in a huff.

I been able to come first on this everytime now, best tip is slip stream everycar you can and use the walls on the second banked corner after the straight. I usually overtake 1st on the last corner before this finish line.

Just received a review version. It's got a lovely square box, and includes a media disc, a document with Yamauchi's autograph, some portfolio photo's of the car models and a ribbon wrapped around it. A ribbon!

Can't wait to get home and play it, really. I do hope I can play online like the rest of everyone, since this is a review code.

Well you'd expect so, otherwise how can you review it?

Yeah I've got one of those the disc is pretty much identical to the retail release (maybe minus a few of the vids). Lovely box though.

Mate, I've got everything turned off! I'd start removing panels from the PS3 itself if I thought it would help! I suspect that after I finish my smoke break I'll do much better. Just had to get a breather away from it for a minute.

I did it last night using all the default settings (so Traction control on etc. and automatic gears). You just need to get the right line, and make sure you slipstream almost all the way around. On the first big bend you can slipstream, even though you're quite a way behind the main pack to start with. And never let up on the throttle. You don't need to use the walls or anything.

I had a few annoying attempts where I'd just clip the second place guy, but once you get the right line into the second from last banked corner you can fly past him and take first place well before the finish.

Bought it off the store this evening.

Spent two hours downloading it.

Went to play it and there's an update. Which looks like taking another hour or two, judging by the (non-)progress bar..

Why the fuck couldn't they just let me update the latest version in the first fucking place?

Fuckers.

I thought all the talk about epic updates from people with the disc version and import versions.

Ok, quick question here.

I have a sealed Ratchet and Clank (PM if interested!*) and a crappy Blu-Ray film that I'm gonna trade in for something else and I'm tempted by this. I d/l the GT HD demo t'other day and felt the GT love coming back, however, I was just wondering if there was much difference between the GT HD demo and this game? The demo seems to be like an upscaled GT4 demo in 1080p.

Apologies; shameless plug. :D

Anyone who can't be bothered to race for money for all 71 cars, here is a save containing them...

PAL Blu-Ray save with all 71 cars (plus 3 duplicates)...

http://rapidshare.com/files/103687293/GT5PEU.zip.html

Admittedly someone at GTPlanet uploaded the save I used which had the F1 car and about 10 others.

Dumb question - how do I make use of this? I've transferred it to an SD card but I can't see it on the PS3

You'll probably need to put it in the right directory in the SD card. Failing that, I think going to the DL link on the PS3 browser will just dump it into the system anyway.

I thought this was suposed to be a real driving simulator :D

Best I've managed was third.

Yea I know shame its not. Having completed Forza 2 and almost done GT5 just saving for the F1 car I must say Forza has this game stumped in all areas but graphics and in car view.

Its still a very fun game to play and much better than older GT games, but its got a long way to go in some very important areas. Mainly handling and sound.

Damn. Talking about not expecting this to happen.

The graphics are gorgeous. The handling is smooth and near perfect. And even the bloody ENGINE SOUNDS make sense this time! :D If this really is just a demo of GT5 (duh), we're in for a damn fine game with the full version if you ask me.

So the installing took a while, as well as setting up all the right controls and other option (still tweaking them), but after that: boy oh boy. I seriously almost had to hold back my drool while watching the car models. I decided to select the RX-8 after a while, and went online after one practice round on the high speed ring. Finished sixth and seventh in races with 12 pretty equally matched opponents. Too bad there was some lag, causing all the cars to bump each other. Though it wasn't that bad on the second round actually.

By the way: I'm playing on professional with most help off (except for a tiny bit of TRC), and it feels just perfect really. Can't wait to get more cars, hopefully starting with the R8 after this.

Yeah I find traction control more of a pain than anything else. It works well but hinders speed a lot. Any time you're about to lose traction it cuts power so you lose revs and slow right down.

Yeah, I really noticed that when my dad insisted on playing with ALL help available. It's not even this bad on real cars.

Indeed it is. Shame I've gotta return it to my editor-in-chief at the end of this week though. I will get myself a retail version right after that though.

Just two questions remain for me: is there a way to play against friends directly? I'd like to do a couple of runs against you guys

Not yet but I hope it's patched in.

Although primitive, I must admit I like the online setup. No creating lobbies, no sitting in lobbies hearing people shout "start the fucking race!" or stuff like that, no waiting around, just pick your race and away you go. Nice and simple.

And I come back after leaving it two and a half hours to find the download failed.

This is absolutely fucking pitiful.

I bought this today because Tuesday is the night the TV is free. Fucking hell.

Just keep re-trying, it seems to cache (at least some of) what you downloaded - irrespective of the bar. On my 6th or 7th attempt i think it took about 2 minutes and said it had fully downloaded!

Bit of shame. Guess I'll just have to hope for one of the familiar names from here to randomly show up in a lobby :D

Well, it failed again.

Leaving it to try overnight, because I've got to go to bed now.

I'm really quite annoyed, I must say.

Now thats what I call a positive spin! :D What was good about playing Prologue was that it fired my interest in racing again and I started playing Forza after months. Both great games

What's the best Japanese car under 300bhp?

I'd go for the Impreza. Or a Lancer Evo. But only if you feel like being a jerk.

Speaking of cars: if only GT5 will have a car list like this (only more), it would probably by GT3/4 + a bit of PGR4 in the vehicular department. I sure hope they will make the next step though. GT3 was a bit limited in terms of cars (most of the cars that had over 350 bhp were the Super GT versions), GT4 did it better with some more (European) classics and Americans. Still, I'd love to see more supercars in GT5. Let's hope the Ferrari's in GT5P are the beginning of something good. Something like, say, Porsches, Lamborghini's and the like.

And Toyota's, obviously, which I am sorrowly missing in Prologue :D
