It's suddenly became clear to me with the tuning options not available to bail me out of trouble in tricky races that I suck at GT. Must have tried the B-Class Honda race a dozen times last night and the best I managed was fourth. Most times I seem to scrape in to sixth/seventh position. :)

After failing miserably at that I gave the online racing a go and had a good laugh, even though I got my ass whipped. I must say though some of these folk treat it like demolition derby. A couple of times I was challenging for a top three place only to be smashed in to a wall or nudged and sent spinning and thus ended up near the bottom of the pack. Although one wall smash was worth it as that followed by several other cars then going through me sent me in to an uncontrollable spin, which in the in-car view looked absolutely brilliant.

Online is still fucking shite aint it, ive had this since launch in japan and thought with the spec2 that they may improve the online aspect. I see they havent after my 4 hours of downloading the fucking patch. This online shite with alot of ps3 games coming out of japan is behide even the wii online play at least on that you can play with friends etc, with gt5p and the japanese release of minnia no golf you couldnt even do that properly.

Just as I was going to bed I checked the PS3 and the update had finished, so I actually managed to get two quick races in before bed.

Bought the RX-8 and took it to London in arcade mode, with everything set to the defaults. Hit many barriers and didn't do very well at all.

Then I went to the first C-class event and played with physics on professional and traction control turned down to 1. Still kept it on automatic gears because I can't do manual. Not in games, not in real life. Came first by a long way, despite spinning out in the same place both laps.

It was excellent and all the installation nonsense was forgiven as soon as I was driving. Looks very nice, though London stuttered a bit here and there. Pity there's no way to turn the music off during a race, though.

Sure there is. Go into the options page and there's a section there that lets you turn music off at the various screens/movies/races. you might have to scroll right to see the actual option though as there's only 3 of them displayed at once on the screen I can't remember exactly where it is right now though.

But there's no way to get to those options during a race as far as I can see. It was the first thing I did after the race was over - I just wanted to kill the music seconds into the race, but had to suffer through it to the end.

I've just finished Class B after the purchase of the Nissan GT-R '07. OHMYGODITGOESLIKETHECLAPPERS!!!

Taking it down the straight at high speed ring and getting it into 6th gear. How the engine noise gets drowned out with the air slipping over the body! :)

Any tips on the Honda pass all car in one lap test in class-B? I struggled like anything on that one.

Been playing this over the last couple of days, and I really like how the online races give you in-game money - I think the idea the way the single-player and online experiences are both fundamentally tied to each other is a really good move (and pretty innovative). Hope it stays like that for the final game.

Took me about 6-8 retries to get the online update, incidentally. Since I got it working, I've been really enjoying it - my run-ins with nasty online drivers and things have been pretty rare; the net result of which is simply that I'm always on my toes :)

This already happened in Forza Motorsport, still, it is a good idea, just not original.

I'm reluctant to go online because I think I'll be one of those annoying people who crashes into everybody.

Not because I'm evil, just because I'm shit.

You’ll be one of those hologram cars then. The ones that cant drive in a straight line.

I must say I'm impressed with the AI in this. In every race i've done, there's been a couple of minor fuck-ups by the com cars.

I'm getting the feeling that it is scripted as on the same challenge, I see the same car spin off, on the same corner, each time. It has the feel of Ferrari F355 on Dreamcast, not quite as obvious, but it is there.

I've had races that Ive restarted and cars haven't gone off in the same places. Raybe there's a random number of scripted things that can happen. Suzuka seems to have loads of AI going off.

About six hours in or so by now, time to post some impressions.

It's suddenly became clear to me with the tuning options not available to bail me out of trouble in tricky races that I suck at GT. Must have tried the B-Class Honda race a dozen times last night and the best I managed was fourth. Most times I seem to scrape in to sixth/seventh position. :)

Just some tips for everyone who's stuck here: switch off all electronic help (except for the ABS, set it to 4 while driving), slipstream like hell and enjoy every attempt. I certainly did, and it was possibly one of my best experiences with a racing game ever :D It must've taken me about fifty tries or so to win it, because I kept finishing just a couple of hundreds of a second behind the leading MINI. But man oh man: what a rush it was once I finally won the race.

Earned me some good money, too. I bought an R8 and a GT-R after that, both lovely entry-level supercars.

Indeed it does. Kind of a 'shame', because even though I love Japanese sports cars to death, I didn't think much of the GT-R. Mostly because Nissan had been hyping the whole thing every day for about three years or so. But I was wrong: it's ace. Still though, considering the segment (450 hp, 4WD), I prefer the R8 over the GT-R. Midships FTW! :)

I noticed something like that during the continuous retrying of the Integra-event on B. Though I had a pattern of my own which I tried to repeat, a lot of cars kept behaving in the same way: same cars spinning at the same time at the same place, which seemed a bit scripted to me as well.

Anyway, great game. Or wait, demo. Bit strange though, as I am supposed to review this. I'm thinking of heading into the 16/20 zone with the score though, keeping in mind it's more of a big demo rather than a small game. And after all: the handling is lovely, the graphics are gorgeous, even the engine sounds are awesome and there's online play (though not perfected by any means).

Anyone looked at the Rankings section yet? You can view the fastest replays sorted by course or by car. Take a look at the Ferrari F2007 at Daytona fastest replay - the driver just goes round the apron, not round the banking! That car's got some grip and downforce :)

Doesnt forza 2 do that same thing. Im sure other racers have done it in the past too.

I did it, the Honda test on Class B that is, and when I say did it mean got a bronze. I actually enjoyed it last night. I could feel myself improving and was getting ever closer with a couple of near misses to finish a very close fourth. When I did get my third place I had left him for dirt and was closing in on second. It's now one I'm actually looking forward to going back to to try and get gold on later. So at last I've now unlocked the class A races. :D

I had another few online games last night too. I must have got lucky as there wasn't as much slamming in to each other as I witnessed the other night and it made for much better races, and better results for me, but sadly no top three finishes but a few fourths. What was funny was coming up the home straight on HSR in sixth place and seeing two muppets trying to ram each other off the road to the point they bost lost control and I eased past them for an easy fourth place. It has to be said but some of the driving online is mental. Do these folk actually play the single player game without using the brake, because that's certainly how many of them play online? I actually prefer to start at the back of the grid now, as everytime I've been at the front as soon as you slow down to take a clean corner some muppet rams me at full speed and sends me spinning.

I was really disappointed with this, and then I turned off all the aids and changed to Professional physics. Now it drives a lot better! I was hating, with the traction control at default how the car just lost power everytime you tried to turn tightly. And I couldn't do the overtake challenge in class C, or the Eiger Nordwand reverse in class C. Now they're easy. Sweet.

Overall, I'm now really happy with it. It's got a clunky interface at times, and it's a shame I can't race my friends, but the game is good, and it looks amazing.

Yeah, and if your lucky...It might of finished installing/updating by then...LOL

Good game btw...

Blimey, is it really that bad?

I picked up the PS3/GT5 bundle last night, should I clear the weekend for the install?

It's a ten-minute install followed by a 20-minute update, so provided you don't sit staring at (like me) it you shouldn't get too wound up.

Has downloading the update got any more reliable since the first few days of launch? It's the downloading errors and restarting that makes it potentially annoying...

Probably. But what about if I copy it from my PS3 to my PC and then upload it? Will the update wor if you download it on PC and then copy it over to your PS3?

It's not that annoying though. It failed for me a few times but each time I restart it had cached what had already downloaded. It's just a case of being near the TV so you can see what it fails so you can restart it again straight away. 3-4 attempts and I was done.
