Is anyone else having problems getting this new update? I'm on my fourth attempt to get it now, the first 3 all came back with error messages after about 20 minutes of waiting.

With the 2.30 update also today I've spent over 90 minutes just looking at download progress meters :)

Not tried the latest update yet, but the original update for GT5 took about six attempts for me the last time.

I managed 3rd in all of the Muscle Car races with the Viper. Just make sure you've got traction control switched off.

I've got it set at 3 at the moment. I'm considering making the jump to manual gears too, before automatic gets too ingrained in my driving style. OK, I'll give no traction control a try.

Choosing between Standard and Professional physics makes the big difference for me - I switched to Standard physics to get some of the A class events out of the way, so that I could play the better online events. Some of the later events become extremely hard (maybe even impossible) with Professional physics on, it seems.

When you insert the GT5P disc, bypass the prompt that tasks you if you want to update. I had half a dozen attempts from that screen that failed at various stages. Instead, boot the game up and go onto the online mode and install the update from there. I got it first time in under 2 minutes going that way. That could have been a complete fluke though.

Anyone viewed the new stuff in GTTV? I'm well impressed. Decent quality and started streaming instantly.

EDIT: Oh! This would explain a lot of things. It's not streamed, they had all downloaded. This explains why GT5P took up 6gb on my HDD. Deleted the videos and it's back down to 2.8gb.

Cheers, but I got it on my fourth attempt from the main menu so didn't get a chance to test the above.

That's where the real (offline) challenge lies in GT5: I can finish somewhat every event (even those on A and S) on Standard (not considering the time trials), but it gets a lot harder on Professional. I'm actually thinking you really need a decent steering wheel and a lot of practice to get it right on that level.

I've had to turn 'my' copy in yesterday, but I'm not really planning on getting a retail actually. Maybe if there's a major online update or such, as I don't feel like racing others who keep bumping into each other, or to keep grinding for money and cars.

*makes notes* Standard physics, eh? Hmmm. Are you sure that won't make me less of a man?

So...

I swallowed my pride and swapped back to Standard physics from Professional. All of a sudden, I'm knocking 3 seconds a lap off my times and I walked the American Muscle series. If I'm honest though, I felt a little bit underwhelmed with it last night. The difference between Standard and Pro is really quite marked. Pro is utterly unforgiving and frustrating but when you get it right, oh when you get it right <_< , it's just amazing. Still, seeing as I want to actually progress and unlock everything, I'm sticking with Standard for now.

Seeing as there isn't any proper online between us all, how about we choose a car, a track and a driving model and see who can post the fastest time? I'd plump for the Impreza, Pro physics and London if it was up to me. Unless someone has a better idea I'm going to have a bash tonight and then post my time in the Online thread.

How playable is this for people that are shit at driving games? I recall GT being a bit tough for me in the past, but is there anything in this to make it a bit easier for us driving retards?

Hard to say, the last GT I played before this was GT2, I have done C to A Class and about 2 S Class races so far, as long you get in the top 3, then you pass the stage, some of the A Class ones were tough (for me that is) but I guess patience reaps its rewards... that can also apply to downloading the updates too <_<

What's weird though, is if you play offline, the videos aren't in the menu.

Anyone want to have a go at beating my lap?

Arcade - London - Time Trial - Professional mode - Subaru Impreza.

Here's my time to beat:

1'00.978

I reckon I can improve it by quite a margin but as ever it's putting all the good bits together into one lap that I'm not quite managing to do. I stuck a thread in the High Scores folder.

You can copy the replay data from your PS3 to a usb stick and share it online that way, if you're so inclined... race each others ghosts, etc.

Thats pretty interesting/cool. Though I find it harder to get better times against ghosts for some reason, much prefer it against the clock.

It's all about manual gears  Mainly because you can use lower gears (i.e. higher rpms) during corners to get a little more oversteer, and vice versa.

Yeah, that's where I could see the benefit. I'm a bit cack-handed with my shifts though and get all flustered if I'm in the wrong gear. Practice makes perfect, I guess.

You'll get used to the sound of your engine and eventually you'll only look at the gear indicator as reference after you come out of a corner. Stick with it, you'll get there.
