Gran Turismo 5 Official Thread

It's always felt like the videogame equivalent of patting my head and rubbing my belly. I WILL stick with it though.

I had the same challenge with playing PC FPS games and getting used to the WASD system. I was using a weird combination of keys that gave me a massive handicap in the long run. By the time I needed to change I was all at sea.

I feel for you, dude.

I'm totally up for this Time Trial thing. It'll make a nice change from trying to get golds on the annoying races and racing again twats online (I can race against twats on a forum instead, LOL!).

Just need to save up some cash for the Impreza and I'm in.

I've got shift up on the left bumper and shift down on square, accel on the triggers. Works for me as logically I'll never be shfting up and breaking (well, I never do, someone'll probs come along and shoot me down) so it leaves your thumb free to either shift down/ handbreak.

I've got L1 as brake, L2 as accelerate and my right analogue stick as my gear stick! Seems to work ok.

Sounds a bit odd though imo. Especially since I like to balance my braking as well (with L2), and use X for upshift, and square for downshifts, like I did with Sega Rally 2. Works just like the sequential semi-automatic gearbox in my own street car.

SLAAAAAAGGGGG!!!!!

I managed to shave off a little bit of time tonight but I'm still adjusting to manual gears! sub 1'00.000 is sooooo do-able, isn't it?

So so doable, its all about holding your nerve and picking the right line through the section after the first bend and then not bottling it when you're up on your fastest time (like I did last night).

I saved my replay of my best lap and watched it back at the end of my session. I fucking nail the first corner, and the slightly left into big right one after that, but the long right with the wide run-off is where I think I can make the biggest gains, as I fluffed it a little bit.

I can never manage to do the first corner without wheel-spinning accelerating out and I don't cut the corners as well as I should after the long sweeping bend, like you said previously nailing the perfect lap is so tough. I usually get twitchy if I see my split time is blue.

Is it just me or since the Spec II update has the online tuned shit? You get a lot more success in joining races but they're all fucking high speed ring or the daytona track. Why can't I race on Suzuka online anymore!?

I haven't been playing this much (probably about twice since it came out) so I might be missing something here. But is there any way of modifying the car you got? Or do I have to wait till the "proper" Gran Turismo 5 is out for that?

I caved in and got the save that unlocks all of the cars. Poor form, me.

If anyone wants a copy of it and instructions on how to use it, PM me with your email address and I'll send it on to you. Your identity will also remain undisclosed to fellow forumites.

The F1 car is really quite scary! ;)

You need to unlock 'S-Class' before you get any tuning options.

Is anyone else having problems getting this new update? I'm on my fourth attempt to get it now, the first 3 all came back with error messages after about 20 minutes of waiting.

With the 2.30 update also today I've spent over 90 minutes just looking at download progress meters :)

I'm having the same problems, though I'm not hugely bothered by the update, unless it does something 'essential'. I'm more worried about the message stating that it *may* cause loss of game data, in which case is a large problem obviously - I really don't want to do a Cappucino cup race again, ever.

Is it essential? Does it cause loss of game data?

  • 3 weeks later...

Just reading the new Official Playstation Magazine and it has a new interview with Kazunori Yamauchi, the juicy bits:

* A new update will be released around Christmas '08 time including damage & improved community support (more online features.)

* GT5 will include most if not all major car manufacturers

* GT5 is set to include a massive amount of cars & will feature a whole new range of courses to drive

* Not due out atleast until the end of next year

* Prologue is only half the game that the full version will be

So there you have it, sounds like it's progressing rather well.

The rest of that sounds like what I would expect, but delaying GT5 till winter 2009!! That's going to be a long slow wait. I thought waiting ten months for GT3 to arrive when I got my PS2 was hellish enough.

I find that updates often keep players going back to games, especially when they add new features and not just bug fixes.

Anyway, lighten up if you're not bothered about it you just don't download it... Simple as!

SonyLOL!!!!

Yeah Aidey, haven't you heard?

You people are SO negative!

Although, to be fair Harry, you can't tell people that they don't have to download something if they don't want to BEFORE it's actually available to download, and it's more widely know HOW it fixes (or breaks) a game.

Also, will PS3s with unpatched GT5:p installs be teh raer all over eBay?
