Fucking hell. Ive just given up smoking - again.

At around the £40 quid it costs me per week i could get me a slim just for this. And i think i will.

MY old PS2 Logi GT wheel should work okay (doesn't it?).

my old Gt3 logi wheel worked a treat on GT5P so you should be fine.

Are the reflections still faked ? Pic 2 seems to imply they may have moved to actual reflections.

I think proper realtime reflections can't be done yet in games, so they're still faked with mirrored and skewed textures. There's Raytracing, but I'm not sure if that's for realtime purposes yet.

Here:

In computer graphics, ray tracing is a technique for generating an image by tracing the path of light through pixels in an image plane. The technique is capable of producing a very high degree of photorealism; usually higher than that of typical scanline rendering methods, but at a greater computational cost. This makes ray tracing best suited for applications where the image can be rendered slowly ahead of time, such as in still images and film and television special effects, and more poorly suited for real-time applications like computer games where speed is critical.

Yeah...thats why i wondered if the parrell mapping method is better. (If its even used in games).

That said, if anyone could do then either Evolution or Poly would be the ones i'd guess could.

I still consider them the two best technical devs for 3D gaming (well and Bugbear, and Rockster).

That's what i'm worried about. I gave up on the last GT4 because it was just too big, bloated and boring. It was just race after race after race with no real sense of a well thought of structure.

and the way you could use 400 hp cars in races versus 100 hp cars. Boring!

That's not precisely my problem.

It's that, on GT5P for instance, you're pretty much forced to do the same crappy oval race again and again and again and again and again to ever have the money to get a car for the later races.

It's not a prob any of the Forzas have had and really GT1 and 2 didn't have it either.

Sort that, add damage and they're very nearly there at making a comparable game. And T10/PD pushing it each can't be anything but good news for all of us.

The cars in this game never get dirty, do they? It all looks so clean. Of course I'm saying that after the Forza 3 demo and Dirt2...

Sleek road surfaces as well. "Please don't damage our cars", it seems they're saying. :omg:

That's a real Japanese culture thing. It's like they only make Gran Turismo to worship the cars in it, seemingly trying to turn them into god-like machines.

And truth be told, a lot of cars are truly brilliant machines, but in end they're all still just tools of speed. Which do get dirty and can be damaged when used.

I don't care.

I'm so wowed by the graphics and the push back on release date means i can easily save enough cash to buy a PS3 and i need an incentive to keep of the bloody fags.

I'm not even that bothered about the AI - the fact i can race on other, newer tracks really is enough.

God i'm such a graphics slut. But i fucking love it.

IGN - Hands-on Damage Report

Now, for starters, there's going to be deformation damage -- scratches and stuff -- for all normal cars, but race cars are going to take hits hard in a way that will cause doors and side panels to tear completely off.

To put these differences to the test, I took the Subaru racer out on the track and began wildly smashing into walls. At first, it looked like nothing was happening until, finally, the passenger door popped open as I sped around the raceway. I was a bit underwhelmed and went to jerk the car into the left wall, but as I made the move, another ride flew up and clipped my front end.

When the spinning was over, my bumper was hanging on by a thread.

Eventually, I'd get into a few more fender benders and have my rear bumper hanging from one side as well. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get either bumper to completely breakaway. Still, the car looked all sorts of screwed up.

When I climbed into the Ferrari and the Benz, I got to see how the other half lived. I slammed the rides into tire piles, rammed other cars, and grinded along guardrails; the only damage I could see were superficial cracks and scuffs on the fenders, sides, and hoods -- you know, like people had scratched away the paint.

Now, even though the Subaru looked like death and the Benz/Ferrari looked scratched up, all three drove like crap after the accidents. Whereas I could fly around in the rides beforehand, now I felt tension in the wheel when I'd be driving down a straightaway and cornering was tougher than ever.

I'll admit it: I had a hell of time wrecking these cars today. Slamming into orange plastic and watching it get kicked up in the air is fun, the smoke from a spinout is refreshing, and I'll be damned if I'm not going to knock off every bumper I can when Gran Turismo 5 is released.

Look at the lighting on this EVO :(

That said, despite how impressed I was with the car detail in the game generally, something has sat wrong with how GT looked to me recently and I realised it was this

It's how the roads/tracks always seem to look perfect and shiny. Hell how everything looks perfect and shiny. Has this changed in GT5- to me it seems like a deliberate design decision to keep everything so immaculate but it doesn't looks very realistic, more like a better than real life situation with how everything looks. I think a dirty and worn out road and track adds a lot to the immersion. But then I guess it wouldn't be GT anymore then?

Yeah i knew that was going to be the case. It was obvious the photo mode used higher res textures.

I did mention that in a more cynical post a while ago. But its futile really, even for a graphics hoar like me. It plays so well IMO plus and lets not beat about the bush....its IS the best racing game on the 360 and GT5 will proabably be the best Racing game on the PS3 (at least the best online racing game).

The mountain thing which i witness many times in road surface too its a minor problem..

there are other things i don't like.

I've never seen that mountain texture bug myself, could it be a 360 cache issue?

I don't get what people are complaining about. FM2 used higher res textures/models in replays as well (at the cost of the 60fps framerate). FM3 still looks miles better in-game than FM2. Granted, GT5 is going to outperform graphically, no doubt. But for me at least, FM3 will provide a more genuine racing experience, with great community aspects. I can see myself buying a PS3 Slim with GT5 next year though.
