The Rllmuk Good Food Guide

I'll start with 2 favourite places:

Linthwaite House Hotel near Windermere serves the best food I've ever eaten, but it's pretty expensive. There are always at least six different options per course, along with canapes, a pre-starter, coffee with petit fours to finish. It's a very good place to enjoy a romantic meal with your other half and it also does evenings with Keith Floyd if you like the old drunk!

Abe's Pizza on Kensington, Liverpool, is an old favourite for a tasty chicken kebab plus the folded cheesy garlic bread is absolute heaven. Very cheap too. I've been going there since I started uni way back in '94! They deliver as well but don't be put off by the surly gets that answer the phone when you order.

Bodean’s is an absolute paradise for meat lovers everyhere (well, those near London anyway).

Pretty much everything they do, from the Buffalo Wings (with blue cheese dip) to the amazing racks of ribs, via the pulled pork, burnt ends and BBQ beans (which have meat in them), are top-notch. Delicious.

This. Amazing. They also do some ridiculous deals as well, for example the Clapham one will do any meal from a specific list for the time you ordered it, starting at I think 5PM, weekdays only. You arrive at 5PM you get that meal for £5. You might think it'd be cheap or small items as well but it really isn't, I forget the name of it but there's one that's pulled pork, spare ribs, 1/4 chicken and a huuuuuge plate of chips. Amazing, absolutely amazing, you'll be stuffed and all for a fiver.

Plus in Peterborough:

East: Oriental Fusion...which tastes better than the wanky description. Good food, good atmosphere, and situated ont he top of a house boat, with a great pub underneath. Spciy catfish comes highly recommended.

Edoya: Cheap, quick noodle bar with decent sushi and noodle dishes.

Orso 80 in Rome.

You only need to order Antipasti and you'll be there for hours - they don't stop bringing plates of amazingly good italian cuisine, from super fresh mozerella balls, to meat balls, to tomatoey-bean yum and so forth. Buy the house wine (by the litre) and you'll be set.

Edamame - Oxford. Tiny japanese restaraunt near New College. Food is simple and tasty. Run by nice people. Good sushi.

http://edamame.co.uk/

Boody hell!

I walked past that the other day for the first time, thought it looked good, read some good reviews, then came into this thread thinking, 'What are the chances that someone will recommend Edamame?'

:(

It's closed for most of September, though.

Panama Hatties in Spurstow, I think theres one in Manchester too. Really nice Mexican/Tex Mex food with some Asian type offerings as well

A good Mexican in the UK! It would almost be worth the drive from Glasgow just to check it out.

Every Mexican I've been in to in the UK has been a crushing disappionment, as I'm a huge fan of Mexican food. Pancho Villas in Glasgow has to be the worst attempt at Mexican food I've ever had, and Salsa ain't much better. I also tried one in London which was pretty dire too. It's sad it's so bad and expensive over here, as in Mexico and the USA it's easy to find great cheap Mexican food.

A couple for the Aberdeen area.

Yatai, http://www.yatai.co.uk. The only Japanese in Aberdeen, its small place and can only seats about 16ish but the food is fantastic. Admittadly so far it has been the first on only time the wife and i have eaten Japanese but it really was great.

The Milton, http://www.themilton.co.uk. a bit pricey but a great treat. The food is some of the best i have ever had, the venison is great.

There used to be one called Minsky's in Ealing which was fan-tastic, but obviously not good enough to attract enough people :o

Actually, I'm after a GREAT restaurant in London for a very special meal with my wife - has anyone been to any special places?

Three sprang to mind -

Claridge's is the most 'special' restaurant I've been to. Food was amazing and the service was second to none.

Hakkasan's worth a look (absolutely superb Chinese food, very stylish).

Perhaps the Oxo Tower as well - food and service is good, if not great, but it's all about the view...

Claridges keeps popping up everywhere I look - perhaps that'll be our destination (assuming we can get booked in!!!).

There is a really good Mexican restaurant in Cheltenham called That Mexican Place. I had one in Edinburgh that was actually dire.

Salsa in Carlton Place is pretty decent, bit pricey though, but better than the same shit folded different you get in Pancho's. Watch the toilet door though coz last time I was in the hinges were f*cked and I ended up holding the damn thing while getting looks from unimpressed staff. That was a while back tho :-)

Amigos in Hamilton is not too bad, screw the usual, I'd go for the half pounder burger with nachos, salsa, and sour cream!

Just booked in to Oxo Tower for my wife's birthday. I was going to go for Claridges but I thought the view would make it more special on a birthday night.

Did you ask for a table near the window? It's not like any table is that far away but it will make a difference.

That'll probably be the Edinburgh branch of Pancho's, just off the Royal Mile? Awful place.

I've been to Salsa a few times and I've never been impressed. In fact the first time I was in there was the original venue on Dumbarton Road in Partick. Only been to it once since it's moved to Carlton Place. It's better than Pancho's, but then just cooking some supermarket packet crap would be better than Pancho's (although I'm certian that's what Pancho's actually do).

May have to give that a go, where is it roughly?

The Old Passage Inn in Arlingham, Gloucestershire is a very good restaurant for fish/seafood in particular. My ex girlfriend used to work there. Not cheap but I've never had a bad meal there. Went around a month ago and happily devoured oysters, scallops, mussels, champagne, amazing NZ wine and monkfish. I recommend it to anyone who loves fish

The Bitter End, Cockermouth (ooooooh!), Cumbria.

Not the most extensive menu, nor the most imaginative, but the food quality - plus there own brewed beer - is awesome. Best pub meal ever.

They even sell Tsingtao, for gods sake. Can there be a better pub?

I claim my prize as the first person to go to somewhere mentioned in this thread because of the recommendation. Blue and I went to The Bitter end last night and had a very nice meal of steak and ale pie and some loverly home brewed 'Pride' Mmmm....

My only bug-bear was that they brought us the dessert menu and when we'd chosen and went to order they'd shut the kitchen (ten past nine). I wish they'd said we'd have to be quick when they brought the menu.

But we had a great night and stayed in a fab B&B round the corner called Six Castlegate.

Picture of Proooof...

Rebs and Blue do indeed win first prize - fish & chips for 2 at a chippy of their choice*.

The next person on here to visit somewhere recommended by one of us lot wins 2nd prize - pie, chips and a can of pop for one.

*'a chippy of their choice' is not actually true and the prize can only be claimed at JD's Traditional Fish & Chips, Colwyn Bay.
