NFL/NCAA American Football – Thread for experts and newcomers alike

Good game in Nashville. Perhaps if Young hadn't chucked the ball at that player and ruining a great play perhaps they could've won. Maybe!

How about the Browns? 51 points!

Yea, the ohio bowl was madness. Whoever has the ball last wins!

Young was awesome: he's still very young, only going to continue to get better. Will be truly fearsome in a couple of years. I'd take him over Peyton any day of the week.

Damn, check out Green's first half numbers:

Miami Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A Sack YdsL TD Int

T. Green 4 9 54 44.4 6.0 1 9 0 1

Edit: holy fuck, green's a disaster. 1 TD off 200 yards? 3 Ints and a fumble? Christ on a bike, tough to compete when your QB's doing that.

Pittsburgh Steelers here.

Started watching it in '96 and just got drawn in by the Bus. What a player, as big as a Fullback but very nimble. It was only after awhile that I found out they had reached the previous Super Bowl, and had won four. I really want to watch them play in the next few years.

Norv Turner genius?

What happened, it's like the O line of the chargers forgot how to make holes for LT. The strangest thing is you'd have thought when appointing

a new head coach past performance as a head coach would be taken into account. San Diego surely would have been better off with Mike Martz than Mr. Turner and that is saying something.

All that aside it's good news for the Steelers as it looks like one less AFC team to worry about. Hopefully anyway.

Because they had Vick.

If only they had a Delorean. It makes the Chargers' decision to trade the first overall pick to Atlanta a few years ago seem genius.

LT over Vick for me, even without the dog fighting issue. Vick is the best running back to ever play QB, imo.

Gah, that game really was terrible. Funny thing is, poor old marty got hammered for marty-ball, but if ever there was a game that called for it, it's the pats at home the week they've been caught cheating. Calling a passing play on your own 30 yard line with a 2nd year quarterback's first away passing play of the season... at gilette... with the crowd as fired up as they'll be all year. Genius.

Does anyone here play at all? I'm considering getting back into it but getting all the way to Finsbury Park for it every week is such a hassle.

http://www.bafl.org.uk - there are plenty of teams about the place. Where abouts are you based? I can put you in touch with your nearest team.

If you're in South London, then

http://www.kentexiles.co.uk

is the team for you!

Oh, and this weekend there is the '4 games in 2 days fest' that is Britbowl.

http://www.britbowl.com

Played at Don Valley Stadium, saturday sees Div2 versus Div1, and sunday has the Youth final followed by the Premier final.

I used to love seeing the Bears beat the Bucs over and over in the old NFC Central. Thankfully as your lot got good they were shipped to the NFC South.

I really miss the 'black and blue' division games. Whenever I see the Bears versus the Lions, or the Packers play the Vikes I feel a little bit sad.

Actually, scratch that for the Lions. Most of Barry Sanders highlight reel consists of making 11 Buc defenders look real stoopid.

The Bucs never fitted in. The colour of the old uniforms didn't work in the Central and the sun beating down in the Big Sombrero was not the done thing!

Two of my uncles went to a game at the old Tampa Stadium (they weren't talking at the time and didn't realise the othe would be there) and said it was a great place to watch a game, though. They played the Vikes, but can't remember if they won.

The colour of the uniforms didn't work for anyone!

I have a picture of me stood in the middle of the pitch just before they tore it down. It was a great stadium (SBXXV testifies to that!) but was very, very exposed to the heat. Despite, which the Bucs never made it count agaisnt their 'chilly' NFC Central rivals! It also didn't keep the noise in, and didn't have very good concession/toilet/etc facilities.

Raymond James is a much better stadium. Whilst I don't quite agree with the whole 'ship at one end thing' it certainly sets it apart and gets the crowd going.

I've been to Chicago but never made it to Soldier Field. It looks chilly!

I actually like the ship! It's OTT but I think it's great fun.

I got sunburn in late October in Soldier Field! It had been snowing two days earlier.

Cheers, but Kent would be just as much of a journey really (from Richmond). And in any case I don't think I could bring myself to play for anyone but the Blitz. I might go down to the rookie sessions in December if they run them again and make a judgement about it then.

The Steelers v 49ers game has been moved to the main game on Sky, which is good news for those of you who don't have Sky Digital and didn't want to watch Jets v Dolphins.

This could be a bit of a down-to-earth game for the niners I think. Steelers look to be back to their angry best. Elsewhere the Chargers/Packers game will be interesting, bolts would have liked an easier game after the pats, I'm sure. How will McNabb perform after his little outburst.... pressure's on for sure. Will the colts suffer a surprise loss in houston? Prob not given the texan's pass D, but hopefully they give them a run for their money.
