Best Simpsons season

I used to watch the Simpsons obsessively! I can't believe how completely uninterested I am in any of the new series. The Simpsons has had the biggest fall from grace I've ever known.

Not watched Roseanne then?

I think this is the most perfectly crafted scene in television history.

The 'ding!' after the truth of Moe's pathetic night is incredible.

I posted a couple of pages back I first heard this as a wav and was in tears, it's just unbelievable.

So many great moments in the Simpsons earlier years. It's funny as The Simpsons is still going and I don't know anyone who still watches it these days due to the drop in quality. This thread has inspired me to track down and get some earlier episodes though.

This here cracks me up everytime I see it:

Plus Homer in Hell:

I loved the Simpsons as a kid. I'm not sure why, but I do remember consciously thinking that the episode it tanked was the one where Homer and Ned get tracked down by the women they marry in Vegas. I felt that because the writers were really scraping the barrel, going back to the plot of an earlier episode in a desperate attempt to come up with another episode plot. I recall that every episode I saw which came after that was poor - including the movie.

Season 9's definitely when the rot became obvious but it's weird: there are episodes you remember as stone cold classics (eg. The City Of New York Vs Homer Simpson, Lisa The Skeptic) sitting alongside the ones you were sure were the show's absolute dregs (Simpson Tide, fuckin' Bart Carny).

If you watched them back to back you'd think you were flicking between season 7 and season 13 or something.

That said I also remember having one of these threads that started when someone claimed Radioactive Man wasn't funny which is clearly madness...

That is one of the first notably bad episodes overall, but it does contain the wonderful Lisa line "An earring! How rebellious... in a conformist sort of way."

And Grampa's "My Homer is not a communist. He may be a liar, a pig, an idiot, a communist, but he is not a porn star!"

And the Soviet Union's "Yes, that's what we wanted you to think!"

I don't believe I have ever made burgers without reciting Skinner's description of his "steamed hams". What season was that?

No family Sunday roast is complete without us reciting "Good gravy!", "Thank you, it's just brown and water".

I visited Crispin and his girlfriend in Florida one time, and we were at a restaurant and he recited the 'this is a knife' 'I see you've played knifey-spoony before' bit in an awful Australian accent. It slayed me. Best moment of my life.

New York vs. Homer Simpson is brilliant, but there's something different about it. I can't put my finger on it.

Homer eating from the unspecified nation food truck, montage with "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin, Homer running between the twin towers for a wee... literally the only bits of the episode I can remember.

Moving on, I think the last episode I remember liking was "Lisa gets an A", for amongst other things Ralph's last amazing quip ("Hello Super Nintendo Chalmers").

...fuckin' Bart Carny

Christ no make it stop.
