I really need to get back into NHL. I kind of flitted in and out and never really picked a team. Not having a station that even shows a weekly round-up and the schedule consisting of a lot of games makes it easier to stop watching (see also MLB). NFL 16 games should be de-rigeur for all North American sports!

ESPN is the only place to get it in the UK unfortunately. Or you can watch highlights for free on NHL.com

NHL10 on the PS3 is amazing.

Anyone else thinking of getting NHL 360 season pass from ESPN?

I keep getting tempted to get it, but I would never sleep, so I make do with ESPN on Virgin

After spending a week in Montreal and due to my friend buying me and shirt being fans of them, I've become an adopted Canadien. It was a bit tricky to follow the game from afar, but I'm getting my head around the history of the team (Markov being a big 'D-man' for them, but unfortuantely out injured) and their legends like Maurice 'Rocket' Richard.

But so far, there's only one word to describe the Habs at the moment.... Shit.

Five-game ban levied on Laraque

Dirty hit sidelined Wings' Kronwall for 4-8 weeks

Tuesday, 11.24.2009 / 8:36 AM / News

NHL.com

The National Hockey League announced on Monday night that Montreal Canadiens forward Georges Laraque has been suspended for five games without pay, and will forfeit $38,860.10 in salary for an incident that took place during a game against the Red Wings last Saturday.

At 8:52 of the first period, Laraque was involved in an incident where he deliberately extended his knee and, through his actions, caused an injury to Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall. Laraque was assessed a minor penalty for tripping on the play.

"Mr. Laraque's actions were dangerous and caused a significant injury to his opponent," said Colin Campbell, the NHL's senior executive vice president of hockey operations.

Laraque will miss Montreal's next five games – Nov. 24 against Columbus; Nov. 25 at Pittsburgh; Nov. 28 against Washington, Dec. 1 against Toronto and Dec. 3 at Buffalo. He will be eligible to return on Dec. 4 against the Boston Bruins.

Kronwall is expected to miss anywhere between four and eight weeks with a sprained MCL in his left knee.

========================================================

Football could learn a bit from this. Suspension WITHOUT pay.

We are missing virtually an entire team at the moment. Kronwall & Franzen were massive losses to us. Zetterberg has been a massive blow. However, they will all be getting rest while others are at the Olympics. So we should be strong in the run in to he play offs.

Our lack of goals is a frustration, too many shutouts this season, also we need to replace Osgood now. One positive though is the emergence of Justin Abdelkader been very impressed with him. Darren Helm too.

Looking forward to the outdoor game tomorrow. I don't watch as much NHL as i'd like to. Am I right in thinking the Flyers are going through a rough patch? Should it be a competitive game tomorrow?

I still need a team to randomly pick. At the moment its between the Bruins (same colour as the Steelers) or the Blackhawks (lampoons Christmas Vacation). Tenuous links FTW.

That was an enjoyable game. Cracking finish. <_<

I ended up watching both games back-to-back. It's so nice to win a few games again.

Considering whom we are missing, I think we did a brilliant job in both games. Howard is also becoming quite the goaltender - only making a couple of [big] mistakes.

Here's hoping to a better second half of the season!

Aye, I really like Howard, is easily going to become a top goalie.

Hopefully with the players filtering back we'll hit some form.

Do you play at all? I only play on a computer :( Have done since '94. No ice rink near me when I grew up and now I am 26 and doubt I will ever play!

It's great to see how Bertuzzi and Datsyuk are pairing up :)

I don't. However my 3 year old loves hockey, so going to get him playing from next year. There is a course with the Romford Raiders youth setup. He will be a star in the NHL ;)

Datsyuk does seems to have clicked with Bertuzzi of late. The big plus for me though is the emergence of Darren Helm, the confidence is flowing at the moment, hoping he isn't shifted back to the AHL when we are at full strength, he has earned a place in the 1st 4 lines.

Do you guys find it hard to keep up? There seems to be games on every single night. Is there a regular playing pattern to make it easy to follow a team, or could they literally play any night of the week? And do players play in every game or are they rotated like in Baseball?

Baring injury players will pretty much play most games. They are worked hard and then some. Is easy to keep up with a single team. They will usually play 3 times a week. No set nights though, or set times.

What Brig said, plus http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebymonth.htm

If I were just starting out, I would just choose a team at random maybe and follow them. Either that or watch a random game and follow the loser
