The Canes clearly knew something everyone else didn’t about Nedelkovic.

I don't think Nedeljkovic is a bad goalie, just that the defence that was in front of him in Carolina is leagues better than Detroit's.

So the Avs, they were the better team obviously  and closed down that 3rd period pretty effectively after taking the lead.  I put money on a couple of teams before the season started for the Pacific Division and the Stanley Cup and neither made the playoffs. So if anybody wants some really bad betting advice for next season let me know. Also it's 3 cup losses in a row for that charming man Corey Perry with three different teams.

Best team in the league - Tampa were amazing though, but the best part of an extra season over the last three years - they looked absolutely spent.

It will be interesting to see the injury list on both sides. Landeskog was virtually invisible during the series, although Nathan McKinnon was skating like a man possesses last night.

The mere sight of Bowen Byram makes me feel old, as his dad played in Manchester and Ayr before the lad was born.

So season's started as of last weekend where the Sharks got beaten twice by the Preds, at least the draft is supposedly stacked this year  so that's a silver lining for fans of shit teams. Curious to see how  the Flames go without Johnny  and Columbus go with him as well as Florida and their altered lineup.

Florida have to regress, they had some unholy OT winner points number which padded their regular season stats.

My Bruins have continued to refuse to accept that they need a rebuild. The three best players are 35 or over (and one of them is out for at least half the season), the only two other good players are also missing the first few months and they haven't found a decent player in the draft for half a decade.

I haven't followed the leafs off season moves because, seriously, who needs that entire soap opera  but they don't strike me as being any better this season  so playoffs and round 1 again. Caufield  is  already awesome , if he keeps developing under St Louis he'll be lethal.

The Bruins seem fine given last nights showing but given the age and injuries thing they might well fall off during the season.

Philly and Montreal have both won , hopefully that's an indication that they'll be better this season( 1 game sample size) so the Yotes and Sharks may be  fighting it out for the 1st draft pick (Bedard) in what's supposed to be a stacked draft . I'm going to (not ) enjoy the Canes likely handing the Sharks a hammering tomorrow.

Leafs last year had the bad luck to run into the defending champions in the first round.  They should do it this year if they play the regular season with the goal of getting the best possible seeding.  If they finish #1 and still go out, then sod it, move the franchise to Nova Scotia.

How do you watch games in the UK? I've tried to sign up for an account on NHL.tv but that doesn't work, and according to a couple of articles I found online, the NHL shut the service down in 2021 because all the games are on ESPN (maybe just in the USA?)

Boston Bruins sign noted shithead Mitchell Miller to an AHL contract.

To those who don't remember, he was originally drafted by the Yotes and they renounced the pick. This is why:

Quote

Miller, 20, was charged with assault and a violation of the Ohio Safe Schools Act in February of 2016 after he and another student admitted to bullying Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, a Black classmate with a learning disability. Part of that bullying included wiping a piece of candy in a urinal and then tricking Meyer-Crothers into consuming it.

In 2020, Meyer-Crothers told the Arizona Republic that Miller had taunted him for years growing up and called him names like “brownie” and used the “N-word” while repeatedly hitting him. He said it “hurt my heart” when he saw the news that Miller had been drafted by the Coyotes in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, where he was taken 111th overall.

The press conference with Don Sweeney this afternoon was an absolute shitshow, also. A really bad look for Boston and the League as a whole.

So, season's well into the swing of things now. Bruins are having an insane year - only 5 regulation losses in the middle of January? Madness. If they don't win the Cup this year then it'll be a huge missed opportunity.

My Stars are having a good season, mainly propelled forward by our (in hindsight, insane) 2017 draft trio of Heiskanen, Oettinger and Robertson. We did burn a first-round pick for what looks like a really good upcoming draft class trading with the Rangers for Nils Lundkvist which was... er... a thing we did, but he's playing nicely and freeing up Heiskanen a lot more. Reckon we should have a good shot at a deep playoff run ourselves.

Was reading the other day that the Coyotes are now playing in a 5,000-seat arena. Am guessing behind the scenes the NHL are desperately trying to find ways to rig the draft lottery so Bedard doesn't end up going there.
