Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I've only seen it once, and the only cheesy part of the film was Primes "One shall stand, one shall fall" speech.

That was one of the few decent bits in the film but I am bias as I love the original animated film.

The big problem with the film for me was its total lack of focus. The whole computer tech sections were unbelievably pointless and the Decepticons were non-entities. What made the original series so good at the time was Megatron and Starscream bickering all the time yet both get about 10 minutes screen time and share one brief conversation. Megatron is so easy to defeat it really did make his threat seem ridiculous (especially when he is destroyed with the one thing he was actually after). There were some great moments in it but they were all very brief and in the trailers (such as Starscream transforming into a jet and taking off between the buildings etc).

I absolutely loved Transformers and thought it came as a big slap in the face for all the other teams behind this years other blockbusters - Spiderman 3 and Pirates Of The Carribean to name two.

It was funny, charming, sexy and brilliant fun. Looking forward to the sequel.

EDIT: I saw the original animated film - well, a bit of it, and I have no idea what the heck is going on in it. Dinobots, autobots, other worlds. I was more than a little confused.

Transformers was fucking garbage.

I didn't mind the designs, but I'd like to tell whose fucking who and what the fuck is going on in the action sequences. All the decepticons were just grey blobs thrown together. Also, having Starscream turn up till an hour and a half into the movie and then giving him just one line of dialogue was an utter travesty. The only thing that would've made it worse would be if Wheely and Blur turned up. And what the fuck is this????

Fuck you Michael Bay.

Not really. He's easily the decepticon with the best character aside from Megatron. Surely it would make sense to have him throughout rather than concentrate on the likes of Barricade and Blackout who I can't remember even being in the original cartoon.

How much of the audience knows or cares about any of that?

I was pissed they didn't follow the cartoon too. I mean how out of character was Megatron? He didn't once have Prime dismantled so they could build a robot alligator out of the parts. And as for Starscream, man, it was like he wasn't even trying to travel back in time to 6th Century England and team up with an evil knight intent on overthrowing the king.

Colour me disappointed.

But the film would have been better if they did make him like the cartoon (both for fans of the original and for people who had no knowledge of the series). There was no colour or personality to the Decepticons at all so of course it was a mistake to miss such a crucial element out from the film.

It was just an awful AWFUL film, but its pitched at the same mental demographic that enjoyed take your pick of the other mindless 'event' films shat out this summer. I liked the girls breasts though. Bay sounds like an equally cuntish version of Cameron, but with more talent in his little finger than he has in the rest of his body.

Sarcasm aside, I think what people were complaining about wasn't that the film didn't follow the cartoon precisely, in terms of how it focused on characters.

I think it was more that Starscream was an established character for people that watched it when they were kids, whereas they focused on the others more in the movie - why? Let's face it, there's no real reason - they just made a conscious decision to go another direction for no discernible reason at all.

However, Starscream's little dialogue with Megatron was great; plus, the lifting of lines from the animated movie was a great touch too.

For the record, as a fan of the cartoon when I was a kid, I liked the film - because, unlike everyone else who was disappointed, when I first heard they were making it, I expected something wholly removed from the original concept. That the film kept even the bare bones, I think, was a big gamble. Given, it was shit for many reasons, but I was entertained for the duration and that's what matters.

Transformers was a massively flawed film when you analyse it. However it was thoroughly enjoyable. I went in expecting it to be utter drivel but it kept me entertained all the way through despite its obvious flaws. Entertaining drivel if you will.

Very much this. Yes it is not a great film but it was so damn enjoyable that I could come out of the cinema and be happy with the two hours I just spent.

Aye. I'm just not massively critical of films in general to be honest. I can't remember any film that I've gone away from with a feeling that it was a waste of my time. If it's something I've sat down to watch, chances are it has some appeal. I have my favourites, and some films are better than others obviously, but I'm quite easily pleased really.

I remember being a little disappointed during the movie that all of the focus was on the human perspective, and the lack of banter between the transformers, but I still enjoyed it. The design of the transformers is a bit shite though, agreed.

I honestly can't comprehend how and why some of you actually see Transformers as a good film. And God knows I've been forgiving; I really wanted it to be awesome.

Can't decide which summer-blockbuster sucked more balls, this or Pirates 3.

POTC3 was a confused mess.

Michael Bay Has Written Transformers 2

Source: Rotten Tomatoes, IESB

February 12, 2008

Transformers 2 director Michael Bay told Rotten Tomatoes at the Visual Effects Society awards that he's already written the sequel and will pass on his script to the screenwriters, who are coming off of the strike:

"I've been writing Transformers 2," said Bay. "We've got our characters all designed. I always write all my scripts, my movies anyway so at least I've got something to give the writers. It's like a template. We have a really good outline so I worked on that." It might be a tad unorthodox, but Bay has high pressure demands. "We had to because I want to make my date. I'm not going to let the strike take me down."

Bay also spoke to IESB, who he assured that we won't be seeing Dinobots in the follow-up. ILM's Scott Farrar also told the site that there will be a lot more robots this time and that the animatics look amazing so far.

It wasn't. It was a two hour long eBay/iPod/Mountain Dew/Xbox/Hewlett Packard/Nokia advert with Michael Bay's own insufferable brand of American Army Porn splattered across it.

If you knew it was going to be so bad why did you watch it.

MANGA BOY!

I like looking at car crashes to see how bad they are. This was like a bus full of orphans driven by Tom Baker crashing into a lorry full of rare and exotic birds, and Jimmy Carr isn't involved.

So we can expect more of the US army in the next one then :( Then again at least it will have been in the story from the start and not badly shoehorned in like it was in the first movie. To be honest im not sure what to make of that, to give Bay some credit the one film where he had complete control was the Island which I thought was fantastic and by far his best film to date and transformers was already pretty much planned (script and design wise) before he came on board (although he did make some changes). Glad the dinobots are not in this one as well, I just hope that they rework the designs on this one a bit more and make them much easier on the eye, plus get more lines in for the transformers themselves and flesh them out a bit.
