Oh yeah, I forgot to mention above.

Bit of market research: how would you feel about receiving a message from someone who's just beaten you that simply contained one of the classic SF2 winning quotes?

"Go home and be a family man"

"Now you realise the power I possess"

"Thank you for a gorgeous time"

etc.?

I was considering adopting that as a gimmick. Maybe I'd get a lot of hate mail. Maybe that'd be funny though.

The main danger is that someone would take "Seeing you in action is a joke" as a serious comment and get very pissy indeed I suppose. Or be all confused when an apparently male person using Blanka sent them "I am the strongest woman in the world!" after the match.

Perhaps "My totem is too great for your desperate fighting techniques!" as a standard message to everyone might be the answer. My totem is pretty terrific after all.

Firstly hello to everyone in the SFIV thread.

Been lurking on here for a little while and have finally got round to achieving 'posting rites'. Also I think I have played a few of you over the last few months - I say played I am sure I mean have been 'beaten by', especially Dogsout who freakin' destroyed my Abel and possibly could hear me physically sobbing down the microphone. In my defence I had just accquired an Arcade Stick and had a half built smoke distracting me else I think it would have been pure victories for me to the point where you would probably would have quit and sold the game ;-)

I intend to join the league next round and know I am pure Conference material.

Maybe a bit cheeky for my first post but have a few questions if people could take the time to review.

As indicated above I have got myself a TE stick. SFIV is the first SF game I have got obsessed with and so am missing a lot of the knowledge and experience of some of you guys.

- how should I set the stick up regarding the button layout. At mo I have the buttons assigned the same as the controller, so top row is punches from light to heavy to triple and bottom row is kicks. What this means though is I have an absolute nightmare trying to do the following.

EX Move - cancelled by FA, cancelled by Dash then into a new move. - Do I even want to be trying this. My inspiration is seeing the top ranked Abels where they just go into a set of moves that my brain can't comphrehend and ends with an ultra but has bits of flashing lights and cancels and all sorts (appreciate not helping myself here with the description). Also I realise this is somewhat a subjective topic but wondered if there was a 'norm' that people subscribe to.

- could someone maybe post a few exercises it is worth practising to take me to the next level - I am G3-B at the moment and am dreading getting to G2 as will be properly found out as being a reactive player rather than pro active. I found the trials a bit frustrating that you can only see them one at a time as in no access to trial 5 if you are at trial 2.

- Also is there an easy way to invite people to games from the rllmukSFIV list when in game or do you literally have to check the friends of SFIV and then type out their name to invite them?

Cheers All

Enjoy the sunshine and hopefully see you online

Funtime Dave

Approved at last, eh? As for that bit, I think if you open a lobby you can then invite someone to it from the "friends-of-friends" list thing directly. Caught me out at first, that.

Anyone, like myself, who has trouble with executing the 1-frame links in the game should check out this plinking science on SRK.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=186686

Those guys fucking LOVE training mode. They LOVE IT!

Anyway the hours of sun/friend/life-dodging have come up trumps for them as this technique makes links so much easier that even my custard bag hands can now pull out Guile's 1 framers with respectable consistency.

Just played against Infexious, and he utterly destroyed me. His Ken was great, and his Abel was even better. I've never seen better use of Focus Attacks; lots of Lvl1 counter crumples. Not an easy guy to crossup either, so my entire game was changed. Changed to losing.

I need to play this guy! It sounds like it could be painful. I tried earlier but he was busy playing other people (possibly you ).

Edit: And now we can't connect.

Edit 2: Jesus, I'm massively bored of this game. If it wasn't for the league and games with folk from this forum I'd have stopped playing weeks ago. I think I might just put the stick away until Blazblue comes out.

Infexious is disgracefully good at Street Fighter.

I think I played about 30 odd matches and won one.

Admittedly I am pretty village at the game but he is out of control good.

In an imaginative show of cruelty, having bummed me beyond prolapse with Abel, he ravaged my already broken spirit by pissing on me with my own character in a few Guile mirror matches.

He is definitely rocking at least one of these.

Aye, he's very good. I played him for the first time the other day and with Blanka I won 10 and lost 10 but when I tried any of the other characters against his Abel I just got completely ruined. I think I won a couple as Ryu and that was it.

aaaaaaaaAAAAAAARGHHHH!!

Picked this up for the 1st time in months and though I'd have a stab at Guiles normal challenge. I can get to the one where it goes

Jump Heavy Kick

Medium Punch

EX Sonic Boom

EX Focus Attack

Now, I've got to the point where I can pull off the 1st three 70% of the time, but there's no way in hell I can do that focus attack after the sonic boom. Am I missing some trick or is it notated wrong or am I just shit with my timing?

Does it get blocked or does it not come out?

If it doesn't come then I guess you are doing it too late because you should be FA-cancelling the EX-Boom so it needs to be pretty immediate.

If it gets blocked you are holding the MP+MK too long.

Am I right in thinking that if you start a block string on an opponent, assuming he blocks the first hit, he can just press any buttons/directions he fucking likes through the rest of the combo and he will continue to block?

Yes, this is auto block. What he'll actually do is mash down/forward and punch so if you miss any of your links you'll eat a dragon punch.

Was in London on Monday so popped into Casino for as long as the wife would let me without making bored noises (twenty minutes).

Four straight wins but there really weren't any serious heads in there - the last guy I played asked me if I could do Ken's Ultra  - but it was pretty cool playing against real life folk in real life for a bit there. I didn't like the way the cabs were side to side rather than back to back, though, made for some awkward hmm-yeah-nice-stuff-man moments in between rounds.

Like dogsout I'm utterly fucking bored of this game now. Jimmy, I know I need to sort that league shit out for you and will make sure I get it done in the next day or so. Not working for a bit so I should actually have some time.

Are you kidding? I love the banter from playing irl. Even in the few very amateur tournys I've played in I don't keep my mouth shut for long. It's all part of my edge.

Even if you go from a high to a low attack or vice versa? I thought the auto block only extended to multi hit single moves like Ryu's close punches etc. And also you've got stuff like Abel's CoD where they can block the first attack and if they don't get a attack in and stop blocking then the second one will hit.
