Super Street Fighter IV (3DS/PS3/X360)

Trailer looks great. I'm not sure, but it sort of looked 3d with a filter applied to it. Details like the hair movement, facial expressions (quite subtle and un-2d like) and shadows on their feet make me think that it's a much more advanced version of the Okami engine/graphic filter. I'll have to watch it again.

With the 'New Beginning' subtitle, I reckon it'll be 3d, but with gameplay rooted in the 2d plane.

Capcom have nailed the 2d fighter with great games like SF3:TS, so as much as I love 2d fighting games, it would be a bit of a regression to come up with another 2d fighter, no matter how hi-res it is. When SF3 came out in '99 (so development would have started a few years earlier), 3d movement in games was still a bit iffy. Since then 3d control has come a long way (God of War, Devil May Cry etc...) so if the series went to 3d, I'm confident Capcom could make it handle great.

Also, it would be good to see moves like the hurricane kick have full 360 attack area. The downside would be that moves like the hadouken would be seriously depowered if all you had to do was sidestep it.

Can't wait to see gameplay footage.

I'm surprised people are trying to infer ANYTHING about the game from that trailer. It reminds me of how people analysed the Halo3 E3 trailer pixel by pixel; we have no reason to believe one iota of that trailer actually has even the slightest thing to do with the game.

Speculation's fun though, isn't it? :)

Surprised at the Ryu/Ken hate - I seem to be in the minority that's pleased to see them making an appearance. They're trademarks of the series...Why wouldn't you want them?

I agree, it isn't Street Fighter without them and their trademark moves.

Ryu and Ken need to be there. They're the stalwarts of the series and both require a very different style of play.

Personally, I'd like to see the return of Sagat -- SF3 was worse off without him. We don't really need M Bison or Balrog tho'. Maybe Vega.

My list of returning characters:

Ryu

Ken

Yun and Yang (both grown up)

Chun Li

Alex

Ibuki

Sagat

Guy

Akuma

Guile

Dudley

Oro

Gen

Then 6 new characters for a roster of 20 characters.

Except Halo 3's E3 trailer was pretty much the same quality you get in-game.

But SF4 won't be 3D.

Or I will cry.

That list is clearly wrong, as it contains no Makoto!

I don't get Chun-Li love. She's fucking manky to play as.

I dunno, she's not one of my preferred characters but I can see why people like her speed and aerial capabilities. Personally, I prefer more grounded characters - literally.

Chun Li would be useless if she didn't have such mental priority in 3rd Strike.

I just hope everyone leaving Capcom means someone else can have a try at learning what balance means. Character tiering is not it! It's why Dhalsim is basically useless in SF2, because he's slow with shit damage and hardly any priority, so if you play him properly trying to tie your opponent down with long range attacks... you're fucked, because the other guy can just keep punching air and out-damage you every time you connect.

I appreciate that Capcom can make enjoyable fighting games that are heavily satisfying to play. Their record on making proper fighting games is pretty negligible.

Not that this matters, I should say. Only tournament gayers actually play in that kind of way, ay.

Dhalsim can deal some real damage if you can use him. If they updated him with some physical special attacks, I'd be all over it.

I have given hoodedclaw a few grey hairs when I play the skinny one.

Although he has nearly given me a case of internal human combustion when he plays Zangief

In SSF II Turbo, I find that, after years of playing as Ryu/Blanka/Bison on easier settings, I found that only Chun Li could get me through the hardest mode, which surprised me.

Hopefully SF4 will be void of the dodgy Ryu AI that pissed me off in most SF games, where he just stands there mentally chucking fireballs. IT'S HAPPENED TO YOU.
