For some reason I find him much easier to beat as Dhalsim than anybody else

Capcom bosses are always easiest when you play as the less conventional characters; Bison, Shin Bison, Shin Akuma, Ultimate Rugal... They're always easier as the likes of Dhalsim and Vega than they are with Ryu.

I am thinking carlito has organised a weekend excursion for all the players in here on his nautilus, that's why no-ones been about. Look at funtime smirking, pah! and that bird has even had her hair done like makoto.

fuck you all I am going on the ferry cross der meeerzzeee whilst blasting kens theme on my alba 4 speaker cassette

I'm gonna come online in about an hour if anyone's gonna be around. I'm gonna try to decide whether I'm good enough on a stick to ditch the pad for SvB. If someone could give me a lesson in option select then i'd really appreciate it: teching throws is a big weak point in my game.

Gah, routerfighter IV sucks. Shame I had to cut the session short, but thanks to Donut for some fierce games with his Makoto. Man, it's really hard to put you out of it once you're in your rhythm. Shame I couldn't play Joffo or JLM or Hyper P. :(

Had to dash, dinner was ready and I had to plug my dripping nose with some tissues - whoever invented summer colds needs a chinning!

Nice to get to play uzi again, but I suspect I now have issues with hyper p, not sure what was going on between me and joffo either, bah :(

Great session with goemon earlier too, who has inspired me to be more gutsy with karakusas, I lost count the amount of times I got caught out!

Might jump back on in a bit

I think those issues were all me! Sorry man! I'm really hoping it's just sunday night internet use preventing me from lobbying it up.

I suspect the same thing. Every time I see you in a party I get all excited, but then I see you struggle to join. Now I couldn't connect to the lobby you were in. Sadness. :( I need to steal some good karakusa set-ups from someone, I just randomly throw em out now.

Had a decent three man lobby with some random guys, which was genuinely fun for once. They both could play really well and smartly with loads of characters. Rotated through my stable of Sak, Mak and Cody. Won a bit with Sak, a little with Cody and so so many near misses with Mak. Why do you tease me so Makoto?! I get a mini 'flow' in a round where it's all good, then I get caught on the back foot and it's curtains. You really can't let anyone impose their game on you with her, or your done for.

Yeah some fun games with Imp, Donut and a few cheeky ones with Joffo. Sorry I left early, I took some drowsy pills a bit earlier that haven't quite got me sleepy, but too tired to be playing something like street fighter- browsing the net and playing dragon quest in bed is waaay less demanding. BUT YES, finally got into a lobby with donut. Oh gawd, what a rushdown makoto- you can only attack, not defend against the way Donut's plays her. Awesome stuff dude, you have her offensive side down, really looking forward to playing you more.

GGS to Matt G yesterday. I now have a headset and have started to play more regularly. Anyone know what days/times everyone is playing lobbies?

Cheers, this was actually the first time I've ever got into a lobby game with some rllmuk ppl - always seems to be a slow night whenever I get a chance to play. I have a headset but I daren't play with it on as all anyone's likely to hear is the occasional "Oh Fuck you!" and I don't want to come across like an asshole

Had some shards of fights with a few folks last night before the net conneciton decided to be a tempremental little hussy.

Mainly though I had a fun extended session against Lyrical Donut's fabulous and ferocious Makoto. An absolute joy to fight against; by the time i'd started paying attention to the meaty Oroshi overheads I was getting cr.mp poked into hayate FADC karkusa > whateverthefuckhewants. I also really, really like the focus crumple, focus attack > dash under > lp up punch thing > jumping EX Axe kick. So delicious! Rufus' low stun does not help him in this match up either, haha. I think we ended on some bizarre match up as well, where I was Rose and he was Rufus. It felt really weird to me to see Lyrical Donut play as Rufus, like the time when JLM posted in here about using EX Galactic Tornado and it freaked me right out.

Got a single match in against Hegg, which he won as Honda against my poor, naively enthusiastic Dee Jay. Then I rage quit in a rage. Or my xbox live connection cut out and I made a cup of tea while I waited for it to sort itself out. Haha, I'm rubbish at experiencing rage.

EDIT: Also, the english language version of Makoto, when she's doing that three hit throw that punches you in the back, sounds like she's saying "Hyper P-yeah!". To me at least.

Yeah, focus focus fukiage axe kick is my favourite thing Donut does with Makoto as well. It looks so lovely.

My connection's gone all lame as well. It seems I can't play imp, Revival or Hyper P. I'm sure the list will grow as well. :(

I'm aiming to be on most evenings this week regardless.

Had a horrible session on ranked over the weekend. In a series of about 20 games with Chun, I think I won about 5. Dropped from 5,000BP and 2600 PP to 4,000 and 1600.

The problem with ranked is when I come up against someone like a Vega player with lots of gimmicks. In the space of two rounds I'm unlikely to get a handle on it, I don't know the match up to begin with and I'll probably never see that person again. However, it's still a loss and I've still dropped points. I generally learn next to nothing from these matches either, so it's not particularly great practice. The run of death was a combination of these, and the frustration from these leading to losses against fucking TERRIBLE players. I just kept losing. Even against woeful opposition I'd find a way to fuck it up. Hosenka against a fireball that wasn't there, eat ultra punish, lose round. Get enraged, jump in, eat DPs, lose round. Etc. Chun doesn't have enough health for me to play that recklessly.

What I need is a couple of good to great players with each character on my friends list for FT10ing purposes. It's the only way I'll improve my Chun Li game because right now I'm only practicing how to beat the slew of Ryu players and winning the matches I *do* know with Chun, like Bison and Balrog. Oh, and various oddballs in between I suppose. A lot of fairly crappy Adon (curse you Gamerbee!) and Juri players about, for instance. I toned down the rage and started pressing less buttons and returned to winning ways during my last session yesterday (2200PP now), which was a small morale boost, but the fact remains I'm not getting the practice I need playing these ranked randomers. The worst thing is when you meet a genuinely good Shoto player but you're still playing them like the previous 5 schlubs and you get battered. Agh.

I want to be better at this game than I am now is the long and short of it. I love the tournament atmosphere, I love watching pros play and I can't get enough theory fighter etc. but ultimately I'm only a slightly above average player pretending I know what I'm doing, and that's only if you call the standard XBL player the average. Frustrating.

do you get a higher quality of player in Tournament mode btw? I always figured it would bring out the more competitive person. I know you are chatting about real life tournaments above but thought maybe that might help.

For me I like the shit shoto players in ranked, I know I have a chance.

Does anyone else pick their character based on their opponents gamertag. If they have a fun looking gamertag I pick El Feurte if they look boring then I pick Ryu. I am mainly trying to learn Mistar Sourface at moment but like to bring a moment of joy into everyone's life and I feel picking a pink mexican wrestler running round the screen for 90 seconds can help people smile. If they complain about the running, jumping and whiffed scissor kicks well: 'You do not understand, you are already dead' or 'It is the art of fighting without fighting'

What's your style?

Congratulations on your successful application to the Carlito Warrior Dojo. We roll hella deep yo.

Loved that session!

A mirror match that had insane varying play and setups - I sent half my time playing and the other half taking notes!

i share JLM's pain of terrible ranked sessions. i am almost done with it now, though - i feel like i am approaching a state of inner calm and composure that allows me to lose to fifteen players in a row without losing myself to rage. i was already well-practised in replying positively to hatemail ("wrath of the smiling hakan"), and this year i have already learned the ways of remembering i have more than two moves and one of these is called "block" (let's call it "mestu sitting down") so once i have proven to myself that i have fully mastered this last crucial technique (i'm calling it "rageless" in homage to abels who kill me just be ex wheel kicking me to death as i continue to try to jump in on them) i will know that ranked ssf4 has taught me everything it has to offer. you've already got the first two down, too. points can go jump. but yeah, i guess what i mean is that ranked is never going to teach you the vega match-up.

Sometimes I like to wonder what exactly has been googled to find the images.

"boxing wimp child"

Am I close?

I initially read that as 'boxing wild chimp'. Hee hee.

I am surprised at JLM's soul-baring post. I know how he feels only I'm not as good as him so it must be twice as bitter. Some days are like that, especially when you're being bloody-minided and just sticking to one character. Like I'm doing with Maks at the moment. I shed 1000 pp in the space of an hour and am only now in the process of taking the two steps forward one step back in getting them back.

Anyway, you'll be alright Jason! You can do eeet!

This is why I never play ranked (I don't even have the tenpeat achievement). If I come online and there aren't enough people on to get a rllmuk lobby going then I'll just jump into training mode or a random endless, as I know that'll be more use to me. Ranked match just seems a bit redundant.

Anyway I'll be looking for/setting up a rllmuk lobby tonight as I haven't been on this in four or five days. I'm a hopeless addict and I need my fix.

Oh man, I used Dee Jay in an endless lobby last night and some guy came in, Square eye was the tag, and beat me pretty solidly with Sagat twice, taking real advantage of the fact I can't tech reliably. Then he switched to Ryu, and it comes right down to the last hit, but he edges it. He then goes for Balrog and I dominate the first round then I do a dread kick FADC into a throw, which lands for the win... except he quits out on me. I sent him a message of simply '?' and he replied with 'ur boring u only use dee jay so cba'. :(

I sent him some nice friendly messages in return, getting a few where he called me a turtle in return, but through sheer perseverance and unstoppable politeness I managed to get

'im not saying ur bad but charge characters have to turtle by default tbh to do there moves but atleast ur using an uncommon character'

Which is a small victory for xbl niceness I guess.

Also; there's absolutely no one playing Tournament mode, other than private lobbies, is there? Haha, it's dire.

They don't need to turtle by default. He sounds like a silly man.

No, there is no one playing tournament mode. Can rarely find a game using quick match. Had a good one the other day though. Went out in semis to a fairly good shoto user. The tournament was on best of five rounds. First match was Chun vs Ryu, and it was back and forth madness with a guy watching and getting all hype any time something good happened. Ended up at the fifth round. Both on no health. He jumps in, I do stand fierce, he does jump round house... DOUBLE K.O.!

Return to brackets screen to see how tournament mode handles this. The result? REMATCH.

This time he picks Ken. I pick Chun again, changing ultras as I go. Once again, trading rounds, impressing the spectator, nothing to choose between us. Then, in the fifth round I do legs into Kikosho, balls it up and drop him, then eat nasty punishment and lose. I say lots of nice things down the headset and he does as well. Exchange "GG" via XBL message.

Then he ignores my friend request.

lol

English Makoto is fantastically bad. "Cwom ooonnnn, gimme a bwreak...."

What does Rufus actually say at the start up of his Ultra1, before "Space Opera Symphony!"? Been bugging me ALL MORNING.
