Super Street Fighter IV (3DS/PS3/X360)

.::: God no. I've said this since the launch of the bloody game. It single-handedly killed the secretive nature of the environments, put the focus on flashy moves, made dungeons predictable and put a gigantic emphasis on key-lock puzzles which were stripped bare of all their intricacies. TP finally made some progress into restoring the problems introduced by OOT but every Zelda since OOT has suffered incredibly of the horrendous template it produced.

This thread is turning awkward.

Jesus, 0oT is incredible - certainly one of the best game experiences i've ever had.

.::: :)

Why do they always do that?

I wonder though, maybe they could do away with the Supers and introduce an entirely new mechanic. Maybe a focus back to fighting with the Specials being the equivalent of Supers this time around? Then again, I'd hate VF/Tekken controls.

Nah, the Super Art system is pretty perfect as is. I don't see what else you could do in its place.

After watching this: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26832.html (posted in the SF HD Remix thread) I think it's obviously going to be 3D. And apparently that trailer is telling of the new direction they're trying to take the game - I'm excited, but suddenly I'm expecting something that will not resemble classic Street Fighter as much as we think...

I think it's pretty safe to assume it's not going to be the classic 2D Street Fighter we've been used to. The fact that the two games the Producer has worked on are both big 3D titles is also suggestive. I'm excited though, as the art direction in the trailer is beautiful. That big flick of ink after the roundhouse kick is :rolleyes:

i'm surprised anyone is convinced that the trailer is in ANY way indicative of what the finished product will look like...

The Capcom bloke at their recent event said that it was in some way. Could be bollocks, but that's all we have to go on.

.::: Maybe Capcom can. :o

I have no doubt - I guess I was being short-sighted before, as I didn't read your post correctly. What I meant was I don't think you could modify it without fundamentally changing the game, which you stated anyway.

What does everyone think it will be in, 2D or 3D?

I reckon it will have advanced 2D graphics with 3D backgrounds like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Especially after the appauling response SF: Ex 3 got.

Anyone who doesn't think the Street Fighter formula could work in 3D has never played Rival Schools 1 and 2. Both are brilliant games - one of them even has Sakura in (representing her fictional school). They prove that the formula can work in 3D if it is done well, and they were streets ahead of SFEX3 in every area.

Given, if they were to go in that direction, it would need to be refined yet further - but it could definitely work.

The only two things I've always wanted to see in a Street Fighter game won't be in it though - a Tug of War mode like out of Primal Rage and an "only hard hits/specials/supers can knock characters out" mode. Neither of these would replace the main game, but they'd both be fun for a laugh.

I do think t will be 3d fixed plane affair.

The iv logo sort of suggests movement of that nature.

I would love a 2d version but I just can't see it happening.

Personally I really loved the rival schools series and at the time it sort of bridged the gap of a 2d engine on a 3d game.

It's gonna be 3D. Lets face it, 2D is last century. As someone said, 3D can work well, see Rival Schools. It's not going to be like Tekken or Virtua Fighter kind of 3D, it'll be polygons but still in the hand-drawn style (like in the trailers). Capcom have already shown how it could be done in other games like Auto Modellista (the looks that is) so I don't think we need to worry, it'll still look and play like the Street Fighter we all know and love, but the animation should be infinitely more fluider, thanks to 3D.

Could you guys PLEASE stop talking about Rival Schools? I already felt like shit for not having played it.

FOR SHAME!!

Go get it. If you have a Dreamcast, not that normally I'd support yarring but as it's most definitely out of print now, just download Project Justice (that's the sequel). Honestly it's a riot.

Well... apart from the fact that out-of-print doesn't mean out-of-copyright (especially as the copyright holders might want to bring it out on a system like oooh, I dunno, Virtual Console on the Wii), I agree with getting Rival Schools (or sequels). I had a demo of it on the PlayStation.

Yeah, I know how awesome the game is. A friend of mine had it, and he couldn't stop talking about it. Besides, one (or more) characters from that game were in Capcom vs SNK 2, and they were great to use. Even IF they were 2D.

.::: Kyosuke is excellent!

It's like Alex W. got all ginger and decided that his IQ defined his strength-stat as well, and he was going to make people experience that rather than tell them about it.

And then there's...

Kyosuke's character bio was ace. It stated that secretly he is FAAAAAARRR more powerful than anyone else he has ever fought, even the bosses in the Rival Schools games or Ultimate Rugal - but he accepts this as it's fun to toy with his enemies.

News

A Capcom rep has told Next-Gen that this Thursday, we just might finally find out what Street Fighter IV is going to look like...

Chatting with a Capcom rep Tuesday, we asked how Street Fighter IV is coming along ("great," of course) and what exactly it's going to look like.

"You'll find out Thursday," said Capcom's Chris Kramer.

Capcom confirmed Street Fighter IV back in October, releasing a trailer that looked like an animated watercolor painted somewhere deep within The Matrix. So we can't wait to see how that look translates to the actual game, if at all.

Ooh waaaaaaaah.
