Please keep Gill the fuck out of SSFIV. He's a lovely testament to the lasting beauty of top tier sprite work, but goddamn if he isn't the most hateful motherfucker this side of the unlimited bosses in BlazBlue that I've had to fight.

I'd love to see Gill in an SFIV game just for the RAGE that would erupt from people unfamiliar with SFIII.

Qazi's tier list of fucked up bosses currently reads something like:

S-Tier: Gill

A-Tier: That dick from Eternal Champions

B-Tier: Seth

C-Tier: SF Alpha 3 Bison

X-Tier: Sheng Long

I still haven't been privy to the likes of your Rugals and Ragnas though...

More AE news just in - Cammy combo I can't do now works against more characters!

-cl.MP has less pushback, so Lvl.2 FA → cl.MP → cr.HP → cr.MK → Spiral Arrow (i.e. Sako combo, minus the Cannon Strike) connects on more characters

-New Cammy technology: cross-up LK (or front Cannon Strike) → cr.LP → cr.HP → cr.HK

-Sako's estimations, based on his own experience:

cl.LP +7

st.LP +6

cr.LP +6

cl.MP +6

cr.MP +6

From Sako's Twitter.

And this might interest some, Tokido has a English language blog - http://tokidoki77.blog138.fc2.com/

Ooh, FTD, did you see what Daigo said about Ken being higher tier than Ryu now and switch in preparation for AE? ;)

This is bad news for me though - I'm already so free against ken's crossup shenanigans.

Well, as good as Ken gets, I could never give up that lovely Solar Plexus strike. Bait focus, confirm into SRK FADC Ultra all day!

Fuckin Daigo alway copying my style - I have told him before but guess I am gonna have to learn him again.

Maybe this will lower the amount of Ryu players so I don't feel bad when I pick him.

Although I'm not sure how I feel about Yun potentially dominating SSFIV. Still get nightmares from 3S.

Edit: Although, if Shotos aren't the dominant class, perhaps we'll finally get a more offence-based fighter.

GG's to all the G's in the lobby times last night. I think I played about a million matches or so. Amazing times.

Got Hakan up to B yesterday morning as well, ending with a 65% win rate. Still don't feel like i'm actually any good with him though; I've just picket up a load of gimmicks from watching others play that are enough to see you through a one off ranked match, but would see me promptly bested in a FT10. Hawk is up to B now as well, thanks to obsessive and abusive use of walk up SPDs. I love that big guy.

Kinda disappointed that there hasn't been anything new from the Arcade Edition release. I wonder if it'll be like Vanilla's arcade debut, where they waited a month or so before giving arcade owners the codes to unlock Akuma and Gouken as bosses, then later a playable Akuma? I would have liked something new, even if it was just something like changes to the aesthetics or something. Also, all of Alpha 2's stages should be added. Alpha 2's stages are all excellent. Don't even bother making them 3D if it's too much hassle, I don't even care.

This a million times over. +1 get.

GGs to all last night. Was really good to get involved as I felt like I hadn't been in a proper lobby for ages. I think I got a bit lucky with my random select button for the most part - unlike poor Nate who got lemon after lemon. I hate it when that happens.

Sorry for the lack of mic action - I had mine in and so could hear the excellent banter but I've been told off a bit by the missus recently for being too loud and booming through the ceiling so had to remain a silent witness. :(

Who was the other chap in the lobby other than joffo, imp and nate? They seemed a good egg.

That was a guy called Russell who attends the Glasgow ranbats and stuff. He's one of the nicer chaps there by some way and one of a handful of the folks who play there that I wouldn't be utterly embarrassed to be seen in public with.

Nate didn't need to go random select, or anyone else really. I figured he'd stick with Ken and Juri for a bit to get back into his good ole groove. I haven't seen his Juri or Ken for ages :(. It's frustrating going to the back of a bigger lobby queue purely because you life dealt you a Fuerte. I just enjoy the hilarious matchups random select throws my way so I like sticking with it regardless of what everyone else does. Even madbeats and his relentless, boring Ryu selecting, haha.

Yes, that would be joyous.

Also! ALSO! I beat I Hate Sagats' 20k BP Viper with Rose yesterday, imp as a witness. And then he quit the lobby. :( He styled on me and imp, as random selecters, for two fights, then for the first round against my random select Rose as well until imp suggested I use more down and fierce punch. It bloody well worked a charm! Teamwork!

Also, also also, I've got about 100k BP total now, but there's no leaderboard for it. I demand one!

Even if it would be nothing but an indicator of the ridiculous amount of time I've spent playing a videogame for children.

Sorry I didn't stick around for long, had a bit to drink and just kept getting lemons so skipped off. Just couldn't get into a rhythm. Also joffo's mate seemed cool but just would. Not. Stop. Talking. It was almost as annoying as the other night when the missus chose the moment the final hit of Sakura's ex tatsu connected to start talking, distracting me and causing me to fluff the ultra input. Three times. In one round.

So I ended up with the mic plugged in but turned down and on the sofa next to me which removed most of the fun. :( I always feel bad picking mainz when everyone else is going rantom selleck as it seems against the spirit of things.

So I went into ranked for a bit then started mass effect 2 and spent an hour quietly seething at why so many games with character customisation fail to offer any decent facial hair. Like you can fine tune your eyebrows down to the millimetre but can I have a full beard? Can I fuck. Just a bit of stubble.

Stupid videogames.

I miss big lobbies:( the random ones have one or two who'll stick around, but the rest of the spaces are filled by an endless succession of shotos who'll taunt incessantly while winning, then quit after one defeat. Anyway, i'll be on from around ten tonight if anyone's up for some endless or FT10's.

i could go for a bit of that (depending on whether or not someone can be convinced to watch that dancing show on catch-up tv instead).

Is that someone you?

:sherlock:

Seriously tho, if dancing is required i'll pick fuerte and mash taunt 1 while you do ultra 2 with rufus.

I know this is a stupid question, but I'm a Street Fighter noob, so: how the fuck do you do ultras? I'm gradually getting to grips with characters (started with Ken, moved onto Blanka as a favourite), but I can't quite work out how to implement proper combos. Is there a knack to them that I'm missing? I've sat in training mode futilely trying the inputs on the command section, but to no avail...

It'll just be teething problems with executing the movements. :) Try Ken's Ultra 1, two quarter-circle-forwards with all three punch buttons when you're hit the last forward (or your PPP-mapped button). If you can do fireballs, then you can do that Ultra. The two quarter-circles don't need to be stupid fast (because you'll likely fluff the inputs and not stupid slow, just smooth and steady, boop-boop-press. Blanka's Ultra 1 (Charge back, then quickly forward, back, forward+3xPunches) is a little less intuitive but will still come out readily enough.

One thing to check if you're genuinely confused about why nothing is happening: in training mode have switched your Revenge Meter to full? Is that thing the corner all fiery and flashy? :)

For combos, get started on the trials in challenge mode. Keep plugging through them until you hit a brick wall. With most of the cast you should be able to get up to the early/mid-teens with little problem outside of a bit of perseverence and you'll pick up some basic combo action that'll help your timing.

Agreed; stick input display on and get used to your quarter-circle motions; if you can do fireballs but not ultras then you might be having trouble with the second QCF. One thing I found when practising ultras outside of training mode was that if you're using a (relatively noisy) stick you can listen out for the clicks to get an idea about whether you're making the right inputs. If there are more than three clicks with each quarter-circle motion then you might be going d/b, d, d/f, f or something.

As kloid says, charge-based ultras are a little trickier - I have trouble just knowing how long to charge for, never mind the zig-zag follow-up motions. :P It's good to practice charge specials (Sumo Head Ram, Blanka Ball, Psycho Crusher) just to get an idea about how long you should charge for.

For those 720 ultras (Orochi Breaker, etc) it can be hard to whip the stick/d-pad around quickly; I still have trouble with these on a pad so I don't know the finer details... If you're jumping in the middle of a rotation then try performing the input during another move (buffering) - I can't think of an easier way to do them. A few sites I've seen also recommend buffering the 720, usually from a jump.

Stick with ken for a while before switching to blanks, his moves are less intuitive and take longer to learn. Charge characters like blanka encourage a slower paced, more thoughtful style of combat, which is what you really want. The complexity of the charge moves forces you to learn to neaten all your button inputs so you hit things perfectly each time, which is what you need to do to play at a decent level. The quarter circle based characters inputs are easier to approximate with a bit of mashing, so the encourage lazy habits, you'll get results with those characters quicker though.

Play some random and see if you get anyone interesting you might not have picked. If you settle on charge characters, start with balrog, he's nice and powerful and his moves are simple to understand so they'll flow into combat more easily. If you're practicing quarter circles and dragon punches stick with ryu and ken at first, or maybe try sagat.

The same ideas apply to ultra and super moves for charge characters, their specials are harder to learn and execute, but they're often really punishing.

Don't waste all your time trying to use your ultra though, that's the bane of any learner.
