Played some ranked today - I'm bearing down on B rank for my Gouken and reckon another session or two should do it. Quite a few other Goukens about this afternoon I noticed, more than I've ever seen in one go. Wonder if any AE stuff has surfaced to start a rush. I haven't seen anything major so far but I am loving the jab x lp rush punch as well as the neutral j.hp and toward j.hk slamming suckers to the ground. Just need to see the j.mp x air tatsu in action to gauge its use now. Styin'.

Edit: seen the j.mp x tatsu. Looks good, though it's not a cancel. You just have the ability to hit it after they get juggled. Better to have it than not, for sure.

Anyway, a quick thing to come out of all this is that I was just about to start a ranked Gouken mirror match with someone called GomuJonny when I got called away by my missus after my little lad had projectile vomited all over himself and her (they've been a bit poorly). So, sighing, the stick goes down just in the loading screen and off I go to sort them out. Eventually I come back down expecting to see the ranked screen with however many points I'd just lost and notice that it was a draw game. Confused I went to the replay channel and watched some of it back and saw my opponent move backwards and forwards for a bit occasionally whiffing some normals and then just stop moving after about 30 seconds. Dude didn't lay a digital finger on me for the whole shebang resulting in a draw game.

Naturally I had to send him a message saying he was a gent and thanking him and got this back:

no problem. i dont take points unless i earn them. not sure why i took 4 from you when it was a time out draw though. odd.

What a guy!

Fucking hell I need my copy back, been 6 months since I leant my copy to a mate... <_<

catching up on the thread might help kill a few minutes while you wait for your game back, but you may have to find something else to do to fill the rest of the time - there've only been 250-odd pages. 6 months, though? so much has changed:

6 months ago this was the tekken 6 thread, apparently. we've lost a whole D since then!

the other night i played a couple of terribly stuttering games against blipwoo during which he at one point jump-in-360d me five times in a row, then we abandoned the match due to poor conditions. i turned off my xbox and wandered off sadly to find something else to do while ar lass finished watching whatever on the iplayer thing only for her to follow me and say she'd stopped watching it so i could enjoy my street fighting - so thoughtful. of course by the time i got the xbox back up and running blipwoo had disappeared, so i played against funtime dave instead... for about two and a half hours. i taught him how to play ken and he wailed on a few random people, we all stayed up way too late and by the time i got to bed the heating had been off for ages and i couldn't really feel my fingers or toes any more. great times. did land dhalsim's ultra 2 twice in one match though, which was pretty sweet.

I just came back from doing a little christmas shopping on Oxford street. I popped into HMV and had a real life 3 man lobby. The Hori EX sticks they had out were beaten to hell though. I've never come across a spongier set of buttons in my life.

Needless to say I strolled in there and stopped the dude with the 15 win streak. I then forced everyone to play random select until they liked it. Well, not really, but I did use Makoto on some poor man's Akuma. It was best of 5 rounds, the first round I won with a V. The second, a U. The third, I got a dizzy, then did HPxHP.HayatexxSuper into HPxHP.Hayate to finish the round (both super and perfect). My work was done.

Got Gouken to B rank last night – my first B! And with that, that’s the old goat in ranked retirement. Quitting whilst one is ahead is mostly advisable. Although I had to immediately break him back out for a salty run back mirror match after some yank beat my Makoto down. I won. Rrrrrr.

That said, I keep seeing people pull off some really interesting post-single hit j.mp damage stuff that I can’t get to work at all. Everything I try just whiffs so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ll do a bit o’ digging on SRK over the Xmas break, see what I can find.

With the old goat in the (ranked) retirement home I am toying with whom to work on next. I really want it to be Makoto but I’m rusty as hell with her after channelling all my energies into Gouken and the few matches I did have were over quick smart due to my forgetting how much damage she takes. So I may work on her and Abel as my two ongoing projects. It’ll be tough for me as I’ve pretty much always used a character with a projectile – aside from Adon for a month or two when Super first dropped – so the working on getting in and then, more importantly, maximising damage when in will be a challenge. I can see a lot of anger and a lot of dropped pp in the weeks to come. Fingers crossed it’ll improve my execution at the very least. I still struggle with s.hp x hp.hayate a lot of the time for example. I either end up with a crouching hp or worse the f+hp which isn’t safe and is highly punishable and this solely comes from holding forward on the stick after getting too excited. Bad habits are hard to break. With Abel I need to work on cancelling various things into roll and subsequent resets and other damage opportunities. Should be fun. :)

i'm working through every character for now and not settling on a new favourite until i've played a decent session with each one separately. i quite liked cammy, actually. i'm very over the whole hakan thing - i mean i still love him but i'll never play a decent round with him - and didn't really like dudley as much as i expected, but i still half-dream of one day playing a decent makoto or sakura. and honda and deejay were both fun. i'm on sagat now - blah.

last night i did karakusa hp hayate super ultra in a match and it was gloorious! i was playing against my girlfriend though and i don't think she was really paying much attention.

i usually get cr.hp though quite often i get cr.mk, which is interesting. i think my brain just goes "yes i finally landed a karakusa! time to capitalise! oh no, i'm not playing rufus wwhat button do i press?!!"

Well, I think Yun actually looks like a really good character.

His bnb combos look pretty satisfying, and I like the combo into Ultra from the EX Lunge punch type move he has. I also like the Makoto style extra hit you can get afterwards with the lunge punch as well. Genei Jin shenanigans look fun, but pretty impractical. I'm really looking forward to his challenge mode combos!

So.... I wonder if that salt at the end was real... I thought it was all jokes up until there!

Also, I've been reading some of Tokido's impressions on his blog. Some of the stuff regarding Daigo is funny/interesting

Yun can beat Dhalsim easily.

I share your sorrow, Philipino...

I'm very surprised at Daigo's yun. ∑(゚Д゚;)アラマッ

At SSF4 His style was turtlelike diffensive.

But now Too AGGRESSIVE

I can manage to fight good against him.

Akuma VS Yun is goodgame for now.

But sometimes I'm amazed at Yun's combo. ∑(゚∀゚ノ)

I think daigo has interest in Ken.

Anybody in London want to check if Casino has AE yet? I would, but I'm already away for Christmas. I really wanna see some Yang play as well. Hopefully there'll be some good videos up on the net soon.

I watched them vids and all I can think is that dive kick abuse is going to be poison.

The idea that Marn can take a character that he can only have played for like a couple of days, and beat Ross' main, doesn't sit well for me.

I dunno. Yun's not a new character and from those vids his moveset looks identical to it was in 3S. So it's familiar ground for a lot of people.

The Yun/Honda matchup is new though so I'd guess at it being harder for Mike Ross than it was for Marn.

Also the angle on that dive kick is weird, it works best from a neutral jump and seems to either do less hitstun or have slower recovery than Rufus' going by the number of times Marn's followup got blocked.

I'm currently C to C'ing Dhalsim and Rose. Loving the latter, not getting on at all well with the former.

ultra 2 is your friend. don't worry about all the games you'll lose, just go for it!

this is going to be my c viper tactic too.

with sim you can get pretty far just with yoga fire, a few standing hard punches in a row and his back and hard kick as beast anti-air. Also; teleport madly just at the start of your jump about a hundred times a round on hp punch them in the head.

I have probably lost to these tactics 200 times.

Dunno about rantom selleck hegg, probably going to bust out mainz after last week's rubbish randomness.

Wow: @ 31 seconds it looks like Makoto super-jump can celled out of her DP into a air axe kick...I know she doesn't have a super jump so this is confusing.

Yep, ggs fella. Sorry for bailing so early. Latency pisses me off when I'm trying Makoto mix up on the randoms in the lobby.

Makoto has always been able to JC her Fukiage. That fight is really nice, predicting what the opponent is gonna do from your mix up is so much of Mak's game, when you get it right you destroy people.

I'm dying for AE as that have redone her Fukiage to catch people much easier. She should now be able to Fukiage EVERYONE from a L2/3 focus and EX Hayate, as opposed to like a third of the cast.

This is actually a pretty good option. Most people will pile on the pressure after a knockdown. I have caught many people trying a meaty attack with a TK Ultra 2. It's really easy to pull off and does pretty decent damage.

Oh, it's my last day at work today so I will be online tonight for fun, frolics and fireballs if anyone's around. If not I'll just get horrifically drunk and play Black Ops.

It's my last day at work today too so I'm going to try and be on for a bit about 10-10.30ish.

I can't do TK stuff. Not at all.
