I played what could only be described as an epic session (excluding synonyms) with JLM last night, featuring a healthy mix of Random select, maiiinnnnz, and Makoto vs Sakura. As well as loads of lovely big, slow, arcing overheads connecting, on me, always. We're gonna have a FT10 on that one; great fun matchup.

Another beast Viper appeared to style on as again, the quit before the match properly ended when they lost to my cautious Gen. Who are these highly skilled yet furious deities and why don't they just be nice?

Thanks for the Sim tips all.

Only got 6 or 7 characters left to go now, with Vega being the only one I'm not looking forward to. I want to get these up to B and learn more:

Juri (EX spinwheel is all kinds of fun)

Deejay (because he's Guile, but not Guile)

Hakan (oiling up is so satisfying)

Dan (I wish I'd known about standing MK earlier)

Joffo, it's making me sad that we can't seem to connect lately.

there's a third episode of the excellent adventures of mike ross, gootecks and some other fool up on the cross counter youtube channel if anyone missed it. hopefully it's the last one they filmed there because i'm kind of tired of hearing filipino champ say "this guy sucks" and complain about lag.

Where was everybody last night? :(

No bother as I had an absolutely lovely session with good friend cale. Ended 15-13 to me after much merry switching about the cast. Highlights included some cale Makoto beastings, a double perfect as Fei, a Gen Super > Ultra 1 finish, cale persistently failing to land any Ultras after air to air MP setups as Gouken and Ryu alike, me persistently failing to do FADC anything except for one accidental EX shoryu right at the end, a classic Vanilla-style U1 Rose/ U1 Ken encounter just like the old days, and one especially horrible beating at the hands of cale's Akuma that I fully intend to blank out of my mind. It didn't happen. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

And throws. Lots of throws. 'It's all I have.'

Anyway great stuff. You guys all suck though. Harrumph.

Pretty negative talk from James Chen and co. on SRK about AE Cammy.

Looks like they killed her - completely different playstyle without the TKCS apparently. No real answer to someone holding DB now as her blocked normals push her out of range without any means to get back in without meter.

Sad times.

I saw you guys on Nate, but didn't want to impose. Silly really, maybe I should just send you a message next time and if you don't want me in you can tell me to bugger off.

Played JLM a couple of times in ranked, he whooped my Rose with Sakura, and then I managed to throw win against his Hakan with Sim in a tight game. Not pretty that one, I still haven't got used to busting out MK-yoga fire as a reliable punish, still just throwing, which is weak.

Oh JLM, did you get my message? I got blanked pretty hard :(

JLM didn't reply to my message after he destroyed my Gief with Sakura in ranked. To be fair, it didn't really warrant a response, being less of a message than a pained cry.

Got Gief up to B anyway, in record time. That's him, Hawk and Hakan covered in B's. Mucking about with Honda just now 'cos I'm still in command grab mode but I feel guilty for every win.

EDIT: Also! I beat an Abel in Ranked who, in his last ditch attempt for survival, busted out a predictable Breathless, I'd hopped EXACTLY out of range and busted out Gief's NO MORE GAMES! taunt, looming over Abel, begging on his knees, before cuddling him to death. Spinning air cuddles.

I hate Breathless.

TKCS was a pretty powerful tool, top guys can make her pressure relentless! So I think it's messed that side up, but becuase you have the instant air ex version you can still perform mix up.

Sorry, I'm just hyper because they've buffed the hell out of Mak. She now moves around like a whippet with a bum full of dynamite!

I'm actually a bit scared now that the tier whores are coming...

I just accidentally picked Hakan again against a B rank 2512BP Ken, and narrowly win, so I got Haxxor back above 5000BP, but the other guy went below 2500 and got a Rank Down message! Oh man, I didn't know that happened! I guess 2500 at C+ is better than 2500 at B though.

Also, I really wanna see that Makoto vid, oh man.

Prolly can't watch all of that right now, but a faster Makoto would be great; when I mained Ibuki in 3S, Makoto was one of the few opponents who could match me for speed, and the fights always ended up being fairly intense. :) (Speaking of 3S, that game seems to have torn me away from SSFIV - I feel like I'm cheating on the younger game by running back to my old flame...)

5000 all the way down to 2500 is a long time to wear the B Of Shame. i don't know why they didn't just have it switch as soon as you dip under 5000 again.

It was her only safe move!

I just think given her stamina, lack of overhead, complete lack of decent pokes and generally rubbish footsies, it seems too harsh a change - I can see people saying her damage output was pretty heavy and that being toned down, but so much of her mixup game, particularly her kd mixups, was built around the CS from different heights that I don't see how improvements on the recovery and stun on her weak ass normals will make up for that.

Also how will she build meter for EX. TKCS? All her moves are super unsafe.

I am all for balancing, but she wasn't overpowered, certainly not to the extent that she needed such a drastic change - most of the tournament winning characters had her beaten in the tier lists didn't they?

Same deal for Seth and his J.FP. It's just unnecessary.

It seems random - I would put Seth and Cammy into a similar group as Fei and it appears that little toad has been buffed relative to everyone else with only the loss of startup invincibilty on HK chicken wing.

Still, can't be as bad as it was for Gen players in Super. Why the fuck they did that was a complete mystery.

I agree.

I don't think they look at it as characters being overpowered, I think they look at what they consider an overpowered move and in that situation they have to do something about it, regardless of how it fucks up the characters game.

This is just a theory, but it's the only logical reason I can think of for some of the changes they make.

Sad to see what's happened to Cammy. Launching TKCSs at an opponent is one of the most enjoyable experiences in Street Fighter and it's not as if it's easy to do either. Certainly not as simple as pushing down-forward + kick. I'll stick with her and see if I can adapt to how she'll play in AE (whenever we get it).

It's all Sako's fault.

In contrast, I'm a little miffed at Makoto getting buffed. I'm toss at this game and never have enough time to practice properly but I'd finally settled with Makoto. I like her playstyle, she's not too popular so I don't feel like a bandwagon whore and when I do get a win with her it feels extra special because she's seen as weak (especially in my hands). If she's much stronger and everyone starts using her, she loses a lot of the charm for me. Superficial and materialistic charm, but charm nonetheless.

Sniff.

It's not like she's jumped to the top of the tier lists man. She's just less shit.

I think you'll get a few more Mak players (she's a lot of fun to use, so maybe a few more people will take the chance to switch mainz).

I think any bandwagon jumpers will be from Ryu to Ken, and people playing Yun, Yang and Fei Long.

I remember most of SRK saying how they were going to play Dudley when all the pre-release footage suggested he was going to be massively OP.

They soon piped down and went back to Ryu didn't they?

There will be a huge Yang jump for sure just because Diago has switched to him apparently.
