Wire - Pink Flag

I'd seen and heard this album mentioned a lot recently, so when I saw it selling for £6 in HMV today I thought it was worth a shot.

It's brilliant, absolutely loving it on the first listen so far. I love how I can hear the influence it must have had on REM right through it. I was shocked to hear the song Strange - this is on REM's Document, but I had never realised it wasn't their song.

All kinds of goodness coming through my headphones tonight.

Yeah it's a great album. I still think I prefer it to the stuff they did after. Also annoyed by the fact they hardly ever played any stuff from Pink Flag live.

I think they're one of the best bands ever, the first three albums are pretty much untouchable. Chairs Missing is my favourite of those.

Pink Flag's 30 years old this year! That's scary. But yeah, I'd always go with Chairs Missing as their best too...

They had a new EP out a few weeks ago, there's a track called No Warning Given which I'd rank among the best they've ever done.

I found the Pitchfork review of that a bit comical, complaining about the sound being in the mid-range despite the fact most of Wire's best stuff has sounded like that. I liked the bite of Send but I'm happy for them to go back to their more classic sound too.
