General chatter - discuss anything here

It's a setting ripe for a really good social deduction game, when I heard the news I had to check that no one had already made one. Looks like there's at least one print-and-play, would be nice to get a proper game though.

I've been searching for a copy of Santorini for a while now as I missed out on the Kickstarter. Then earlier on I finally came across a place online with some in stock (and at a reasonable price thankfully). Just thought i'd post here in case anyone else was interested in grabbing a copy before they disappear!

Since I've started going to a new gaming group I've had a better appreciation for filler games. Whether it's just to start playing until everyone turns up, or between games when you're waiting for a group to finish.

So I've put together a little bag to keep in my car for standby purposes. Inside this bag I've managed to squeeze in Quests of Valeria, Pi Mal Pflauman, Six Nimmt, Love Letter, Tiny Epic Kingdom, Oh My Goods, Nightmarium, Pleasant Dreams, Twist of Fate, Rhino Hero, Deep Sea Adventure and Mint Works....

@LaParka, ooh, cheating on me with another group of men! :(

Going to raid the toy shop at the airport in Munich on way home for any small games - zman etc. Any recommends to look out for?

I'm not sure what the availability will be like in an airport shop, even in Germany. A number of the small-box deluxe card games that Z-Man do are quite good and also language-independent. Arboretum and Archaeology: The New Expedition are supposed to be the best. Outside of that series, but also small and language-independent I'd recommend Jaipur and Avenue. 6 Nimmt! is supposed to be a popular filler game, not played it myself. In fact @LaParka's post above has a few good suggestions.

Cheers. I forgot I'm at the crap terminal with the smaller shop. T2 has a much better selection.

I grabbed camel cup cards as that was about all I recognised. They had a fair few Carcassonne expansions but I've got most of the ones i want already.

Need to fly home on a lufthansa next time.

Trying to be good before the expo but just had an email saying Le Havre is back in stock. Fifty quid lighter in the pocket! I'm in love with Rosenberg but his stuff just goes oop so quickly. Need to find the Gates of Loyang and Ora et Labora reprints when they come available.

I'm also picking stuff up at the expo that i've bought on various FB selling sites! Makes me feel better as the prices at the expo are pretty much retail anyway.

I'm not buying anything else for the rest of the month now.

That's another one which SUSD sold me on, only for it to promptly disappear from shelves everywhere as soon as they put their review out. Those guys are a powerful force.

EDIT: Just checked on BGG, there's some conflicting information going around but it looks like we'll be waiting until mid-June for the reprint. I was hoping it would be out in time to pick up at UKGE. :(

I want the Salsa expansion but £25 odd seems a bit much.

It's definitely worth it, if you feel you have got your moneys worth out of the base game. It introduces Salt as a wild resource which makes you play the game a little differently. The special power tiles you can gain when you Tribune give it a nice asymmetrical edge too. Plus, it has a double sided board so even more choice on where to play.

Anyone had any experience of buying from GamesLore.co.uk?

I bought a copy of Burgle Bros from them back on the 3rd of May and haven't heard anything. I got a PayPal payment notification email but nothing specifically from GamesLore themselves. I emailed them a couple of days ago asking about it but still haven't heard back...

Could be an honest mix-up I suppose but was just wondering if anyone else knew if they were reputable or not?

I've not bought anything from their online store before, but they always have a huge stand at the UKGE. I'm pretty sure they've been around for quite a while and I've no reason to doubt their reliability.

@And yeah the English version is between print runs, I don't know when the next printing is expected, if at all. The random pricing will probably be automatically generated, some meta-retailer bot putting a price on amazon that's exactly 3.5% more than the retailer they intend to source it from, another which is advertising the product as in stock, but that retailer is also a bot, which prices it at 7% more than they can get it for, etc etc. That sort of thing happens a lot when something becomes scarce.

Does anyone get a bit obsessed with rules and cheat sheets/condensed rules? I've found that the first thing I do when I buy a new game is check the BGG files section to see if there is anything uploaded there. Usually they are easier to understand than the official rule books too. The headless hollow files helped me get my head round Arkham Horror all those years ago.

I'm thinking of writing a sort of guide for one the COIN games I own, possibly Cuba Libre entitled 'An Idiot Plays....'. I love GMT games but they are pretty hard to get into, and the COIN games especially aren't really wargames, they are eurogames dressed up in wargame language. I want to be able to show someone it and say 'you do this action by doing this .... you do it because..... and you're victory conditions are..... etc'. When I first started playing them, the options were overwhelming and not immediately clear as to why I would do them, if you could tie it into the theme I think i'd manage to get it played at my gaming club. As soon as I mentioned it was a GMT game, they all recoiled in horror, and this is from people who play very heavy eurogames at the drop of a hat!
