Oil painting

Good lad.

I'm thinking of starting another painting, and doing them side by side, because there's just far too much sitting about waiting for the first one to dry, and I really need to increase my productivity if i'm ever to have a worthwhile website, or an exhibition.

At the moment yeah. No one will agree to sit still for a month. :(

My sister is asking me for paintings now...as well as everyone else. Agh...it's like when people realise you know your way around a computer, you have to go fixing retard PCs left right and center. Now everyone thinks I can shit out paintings.

Looking good so far, impressed by the blending of different shades on the face, something that I can never get right. I've another David Lynch one I've been wrestling with for most of this week, I've been painting on a bigger canvas than I normally would and it's completely fucked up my grasp on scale of noses, mouths, eyes....EVERYTHING! I've scraped the paint off his face and repainted it in at least six times, I've got it as good as I think I can get it without ripping it to shreds. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Hmm, i've been pondering about where to take this next guys. I was just thinking, what with this being a gaming-based forum, people would love to see, and hopefully purchase, game-related artworks. It's also something i'm quite passionate about, and would love to paint. I'm not thinking, 'spray a yellow circle and call it pacman', I mean real pretty and detailed paintings of games such as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. I'm just wondering where I would stand in terms of copywrite issues if I were to make commercial gains from my work... Does anyone know? I'd love to have a crack at a series of colossi.

My advice would be 'keep it quiet' - nobody's going to find you doing it on a website like this and indulging your passion, but if you start up a website and recreating other people's characters etc. you'd be infringing copyright and making it obvious. It's always been dubious ground doing this kind of thing, including t-shirt making and whatnot, but if you keep it on the down-lo I can't imagine you'd get problems. And it's not like you're doing huge runs, is it?

FYI I love large, empty landscapes that you can kind of imagine were once full of life like those found in SOTC and similar. Brings out a real sense of yearning in me. One of my favourite artists, Les Edwards, does this very well (check out his website). He's pretty talented with the oils, so maybe there's some inspiration on there as well.

Bah. I asked on here ages ago if anybody wanted to do me a painting of my main WoW character, and nothing ever came of it.

You should do that sort of thing. People really love their MMORPG characters, and will pay silly money for decent paintings of them. Myself included.

Good job on the one above, though! Can't way to see the finished article.

I don't want to sound picky...work is work...but WoW isn't really my cup of tea tbh, and I can't seeing it being that great to paint. If you've got some ideas, I could take a look though. Maybe something will inspire me.

...and thanks. I may be some time... ;):)

The whole right-hand side of his face needs darkening a lot.

Edit:

Yeah, I guess. It's strange because the canvas is actually twice as big... It makes the detail less finicky I guess. It sure helps that there isn't a hand to deal with, too.

I'm wondering whether to leave the blood off his face. I think it undermines that look of power he has going on. Applying bright red could also go horribly wrong. :(

Nice work, 28!

lynch2.jpg

This is the one I was struggling with, I still don't particularly like it. All my friends who've seen it prefer it to the black and white one posted previously but I can't see why. My dad, who's a bit harsher, is with me in that he thinks the b/w one is much better

Lynch-1.jpg

But I think this one trumps them both. You can't really tell here but there's a ton of paint slapped on there. Everything was done with a palette knife until I got down to the fine detailing. I still think there's a bit of work to be done, particularly on the right eye (the viewer's right) but I'm happy with it

Going down tomorrow to collect a £112 cheque for my Mark E Smith painting which sold last month :(

The last one is easily better than the other two, IMO.

I quite like the blood, but remember that in the film it's violently red because that's the way it was at the time - you could make it more realistic. Can you do the whole thing proper and then decide if you want blood on?
