That last Lynch one has probably £25-30 worth of paint on it. Just out of interest what sort of paints do you use Number 28? I'm only using the Daler Rowney ones that you get 225ml for about £10

Daler-Rowney here too! I'm wondering what the more expensive ones are like...you know, where you pay £20 for a tiny tube, or something daft. These seem absolutely fine to me. No complaints.

I've got 75ml tubes, and all but my white looks barely used so far. I ordered another 75ml tube of white from art discount, and they sent me a 225ml tube by mistake. Quids in!

There's a little arts and crafts shop a little way out of Belfast that I found a few months back, it seems mostly to sell knitting stuff and watercolours but it's got a small oils section that the guy has clearly no idea how to price. I've bought their entire supply of Titanium white which they're selling at 450ml for £12.50, anywhere else in Belfast it'd cost between £20 and £25

Ahh...just finished painting for the night. Getting quite into this one. There's a lot more detail to be going on with.

Looking very good, especially the eyes. How do you go about the skin tones? I normally put down a flat mid tone and then work towards extreme light and dark afterwards but I'm not convinced that's the right way to go about things

That's pretty much how I go about it too. I use a relatively large brush (size 10, short flat/bright) to put down the basic shades. I like to define the main shadows straight away, though, as you can see in the earlier snaps. First thing I try to do is get all the white of the canvas covered asap. It just feels like you're further ahead if there's no canvas showing...a psychological boost.

Well it's just that my Chambers has an art committee, and every 3 months we have a different artist exhibiting. It doesn't sound like you'd be ready for it yet (you'd need about 20 paintings probably) but I think your stuff is more than good enough, and at some point in the future I could put in a word for you, if you wanted me to. It can't hurt to get your work in some rich Barristers faces!

Exhibitions are definitely something i'd be looking towards in the future, but yeah, things are rather slow.

I'm also wondering what to paint next. I do have a painting of my niece which I started, but i've lost all motivation there... Anyway, suggestions welcome.

Just had a skim through this thread mate... absolutely stunning. Never seen painting like that before, it's astonishing. Really impressed. Keep it up! Is this your profession? What is it you do, I would love to be able to paint like that but I am just terrible at it.

Thanks chap! It's not really my profession, but i'd like it to be. Looking into getting a shop of sorts organised at some point in the future. I was a 3D environment artist for a games company, but right now i'm unemployed. Slowly getting some stuff together at the moment...
