13 of the welsh players all play for the same region in Wales called the Ospreys.
Well, national sides are always just a bunch of club players, no? What people mean is that a lot of the players are from a single club team.

Like half of Man U playing for England.

aaaah right!! Cheers guys. I was watching them on telly yesterday cheering them on cos I thought they were the underdogs. I know fuck all about Rugby (you may have guessed this already)

I wasn't ripping into you, I was just stating my opinion on the Ospreys controversy.

Why is it a controversy though? Are they not the best players then? Did a google search and it's thrown fuck all up on Wales Osprey Controversy?

England were shit, I was half hoping we would lose towards the end as it might spell the end for Ashton sooner rather than later (at the end of the 6 nations I imagine).

We might manage to beat Scotland but quite frankly we will get dicked by France and Ireland. Thoroughly disappointing.

Yeah because dumping our manager will sort things out, won't it. This isn't football, he'll get a decent chance to make England good.

They're first try was awesome man.

And keeping him in will do what? He manages to take the team to a World Cup final, which from all accounts appears to have been driven far more by the players than himself and despite having a very similar team is now managing to make them play even worse. Maybe it was a touch reactionary, but somewhere in the management/coaching hierarchy there are obviously serious problems. Whether this is down to Ashton or not i don't know, but being the manager he is the one who will bare the brunt of all the failures.

We're down to just(!) seven Ospreys in the XV now. Not bad for a team placed fourth out of four Welsh regions in the league table: http://www.magnersleague.com/122_125.php

L Byrne (Ospreys); M Jones (Scarlets), T Shanklin (Blues), G Henson (Ospreys), S Williams (Ospreys); Stephen Jones (Scarlets), Dwayne Peel (Scarlets); Gethin Jenkins (Blues), Matthew Rees (Scarlets), Rhys Thomas (Dragons), Ian Gough (Ospreys), Ian Evans (Ospreys), Jonathan Thomas (Ospreys), Martyn Williams (Blues), Ryan Jones (Ospreys) (Captain)

Replacements: Huw Bennett (Ospreys), Duncan Jones (Ospreys), Deiniol Jones (Blues), Gareth Delve (Gloucester), Mike Phillips (Ospreys), James Hook (Ospreys), Sonny Parker (Ospreys).

I dunno if 'controversy' is the right word really. It's not a massive thing.

I think it's a controversy. Ospreys reserves were getting in the Wales first team ahead of some brilliant players. Ospreys have done well in the cups but are third from bottom in the league. However, Wales got past England so nobody cares too much now.

A bit harsh. You can surely understand why he made the selection...no?

Other than Gethin Jenkins and Shanklin i'm not sure I would have picked a much different team for that first game. Time will tell anyway, we still aren't exactly firing on all cylinders.

I like Mike Phillips but if he can't get into the Ospreys XV for big games why the hell should he start games for Wales? I think Gatland wanted a lot of Ospreys because their style of play suits him and they know how to play well together. However, the men who pull the strings for Ospreys aren't Welsh so won't play for Wales.

I think Alfie should be picked, too. He's on fire.

But in fairness Philips is being held off by Marshall who suits the Ospreys perfectly. As for Alfie...i'm glad to see the back of him. He's getting on and he's a pain in the arse...but yes, he's a talent.

Don't agree. He's match fit and playing well for Wales. I'm not saying he should be an automatic starter but he was a perfect SH choice against England.

Playing well? Awful in first half against England. Mediocre against Scotland. Things improved when Peel came on – and I don't even like Dwayne Peel. Philips is the most talented scrum half in Wales and he's sitting on the bench wasting his career. Still he's the top earner in the Wales squad and that's what matters :)

I might kiss of death that by putting a tenner on.

Bastard :D

I thought he looked very good considering the lack of platform he was operating off. Would rather him against England than Peel (and I DO like Peel). But yes, in fairness, he looked flat against Scotland...but then who didn't?
