Rollercoaster Tycoon

RCT with the Loopy Landscapes add on was immense. Best theme park game ever. I spent countless hours playing it, I got really into the 'scene' at the time. Some of the park creators were stupidly skilled. Through crafty use of scenery they could pretty much design anything.

That video is ace, I've never really thought of the potential for harm before and I'm guessing there's all sorts of bad to be had.

RCT3 with all the addons installed adds up to a great game, fixes a lot of the limitations. And you can pick that up for next to nothing now.

Loved em all really. Heard plenty of bad things about 3, but it actually turns out to be pretty good and faithful to the 2 previous games. The only problem I had was the desert levels were too bright.

I don't see some people disliked 2. It's essentially RCT1 with more rides and no-entry signs.

From what I can remember, it was silly things, really. The sandbox mode was a great addition and was basically how I played the original RCT (along with a trainer, of course), but why did they limit you to select only certain rides and scenery before starting? It was just a pain. The missions weren't as good either.

RCT went shit after the first one sad.gif

And now it seems they've just given up, Kotaku's headline of the new game is "New Rollercoaster Tycoon Game Looks Like Shit".

It doesn't say Frontier anywhere on the trailer so I guess they're not involved and might explain why they announced Coaster Park Tycoon for next year. This new Atari one looks worse than 3.

Yeah, RCT World is by some unknown (to me anyway) developers and it does indeed, look absolutely awful. Not sure why I expected anything else from Atari after RCT Mobile.

I mean RCT 3 is 10 years old and it actually looks better than this does.

I hadn't heard about Frontier doing a Coaster Park Tycoon, so I'll be keeping an eye on that one.

It's heartbreaking. I;ve been following the dev for some time now. The screenshots they have shown so far are nothing like the trailer, they are much better. It was being developed by Area 52 Games and Pipeworks. Pipeworks have left the project, and many believe the screenshots are from before their departure, with the trailer made by Area 52 in a mess.

The RCT forums are going nuclear right now.

If you are after a good park game, hold out for Parkitect. It looks great.

I love the art style, it's a full 3D engine but the camera only allows Iso or top down. (The true way!). They're investigating riding your rides too since it is full 3D, but are not sure if they can add it.

The other one is No Limits Coaster. It's a bit more pro software, but if you can get your head around it, it can be so satisfying.

Yeah, I've tried NoLimits before and it's pretty decent, but I definitely prefer the RCT style of game. The coasters look like they're going to be great fun to design in Parkitect, there appears to be a lot of flexibility in regards to the curves, drops and size of inversions.

And yeah, my initial comment on it being ugly was just my first impression, watching the video and reading/looking through the devblog it actually has a nice charm to it, and with the shadows and shading kicking in, it looks rather lovely.
