Hello Evertonians. Just popped in to pimp my best friend's new Everton book. Blues and Beatles

Review

"A heart-felt insight into the life of a man who loves his Fab Four almost, but not quite, as much as he loves his Everton." -- Liverpool Echo

"An entertaining book that all Evertonians can relate to in some way." -- www.royalbluemersey.com

"A must for all Blues." --www.followtonians.com

Product Description

Duncan Ferguson. David Moyes. Paul McCartney. A father and a son. A passion for Everton. A passion for The Beatles. Blues & Beatles is the story of football and music across the generations. The story of how a young boy inherited those fascinations from his father - and would one day pass them on to his own son. And it's the story of how he met his heroes along the way. From legendary footballers to a 20th Century icon: one of the Fab Four. Blues & Beatles is a football story and a music story. But above all else, it's a story shared by father and son.

(Sorry about your Mountain Dew).

Your mate posts on The People's Forum. Seems a decent fella.

I've bought this book for my dad for christmas.*

and as Ventress says, Hibbert is a superb fullback. Criminally under appreciated, by everton fans too.

*im looking forward to stealing it off him on Boxing Day too!

Victory!

Always good to defeat Bolton. I've had a dislike of that team ever since the end of the 97-98 season when they got relegated instead of us on goal difference and the bolton-ites in the pub got throwy. Will be interesting to see whether Weater's card was justified but apparently it was.

Anyway Stoke next week and they've got a Europa league game on Thursday. The results they've had after them so far this season haven't been good so the hope is there despite how shite we've been playing.

Anyway 8th! We'll get nosebleeds being this high up before Christmas!

It's strange to see former players doing well for once, maybe things were just getting a bit stale for them with us. Anyway, how can we be besting the likes of Man City and Chelsea, but then can't put away Wigan and Blackburn in between? It's a poor league this year so just that little bit more consistency wouldn't have half made a difference. Donovan's been absolutely brilliant again though, great run for the second goal after Nev's absolute cruncher of a tackle on Cole, I shouldn't laugh but it was great seeing him dumped in a heap like that. OK, I should laugh. One more game for Donovan left or is that it? Balls :(

Aye, Donovan will be sorely missed, but having Peanut back is great.

I don't think we'll look back on this as a vintage season (unless something awesome happens in the Cup and a late surge for a fringe Euro spot) but tbh I'd settle for a top-half finish, a bit more dosh in summer, and a maturing of some of our lads - like Strak and Jelly - into proper power players.

I think the team and first couple of subs is as good as it's been for quite a while

My 9 year old lad was trying to pick the best starting 11 and thought he'd cracked it until I asked him if he was sure he wanted to leave out both Rodwell and Drenthe. That threw him and he disappeared off for twenty minutes before coming back with a crazy 3-5-2 formation just to get all his favourite players into the starting lineup

Just need to get some consistancy and get on a run now

So what did he come up with? If it's any good he could send it to Moyes, he seems to find it all a bit of a puzzle at times and might appreciate the help. As for Drenthe, a mate always goes on to me about why he doesn't play so much, to which I reply "dunno", although Moyes seems to have an innate distrust of a player with a touch of flair. With Donovan and bit-part-Bilyaletdinov gone he's got to be getting a bit more play though, his pace out on a wing could work wonders with the lumbering hulks that comprise our new-look strikeforce.

From what I have seen of Drenthe (and admittedly, it's not much and likely to based on 'hope' rather than 'reality') he looks like with the right 'blooding in' he could be an absolute world beater

My theory on Drenthe - I suspect Moyes is avoiding playing him to prevent anyone else stealing him at the end of the season. Like Big Denis with his club, he's out of contract with Real Madrid at the end of the season so basically he's a bosman.

Playing him more is likely to make him pop up on bigger club's radar meaning he may end up going somewhere else rather than stay with us

It's a dangerous game to play though as to convince him to sign for us he'd need to knw he'll be a stick on starter and he'll be looked after next season. Being sub alot now is not likely to instill that confidence in the player

When you look at our suad now it isn't easy to pick the starting 11 for the first time in ages (assuming all were fit)

GK - Howard / Hahnemann?

RB - Neville / Hibbert

LB - Baines

CB - Jagielka / Distin / Heitinga / Rodwell / Duffy

CM - Fellaini / Gibson / Rodwell / Cahill / Gibson / Neville / Barkley

RM/LM - Pienaar / Drenthe / Osman / Coleman / Baines / Anichebe

CF - Jelavic? / Straq'? / Cahill / Vellios / Anichebe / Gueye

The ones in bold are not quite up to it in my opinion and some others will need replacing at the end of next season unless we get a Scholes like effect in their latter years

Where we are still desperately short is in the full back slots. Moyes has gone on record as saying Coleman could be top class full back but we are yet to see him being deployed there so jury out on that one for me but we need at least one new player who is able to play both sides to cover those we've got

So here it is, a derby match with much at stake. Ten years up for Moyes, beating decent teams of late but never won at their place and it's a Liverpool team who are playing largely like arse. Or was it that Adam has a large arse? Whatever, either or. Anyway, the portents are there, the wind is blowing the right way, blood can be smelt and Kenny's having some sort of merchandising related nervous breakdown so this can mean only one thing: we're going to be on the receiving end of a massive shoeing.

I've got my lucky Everton socks on just in case though. Coyb!

Annoyingly, Liverpool always seem to be able to raise their game in the bigger matches :(

True and Everton used all their luck in the Spurs win, form suggests as easy win for Everton but Liverpool will no doubt win it but at least it will help keep Kenny in the job so the madness and falling apart of the club can continue a while longer!

What's this, Everton scoring two goals and could've (should've) scored a lot more? Composed, good passing game, opening up the opposition? Swansea wasn't just a flash in the pan, we have truly entered the alternate universe otherwise known as the back end of an Everton season!

Excellent from a completely knackered Gueye and Ossie's toes were twinkling throughout. Good couple of goals which should've been more, loved the cool slot in from Jelavic for the first and a horrible own goal from Vaughn though who must've been hoping the pitch would swallow him up, poor bloke. Mind you, his crazy short pass led to it in the first place. Plain sailing before and especially after that, although the last 10-15 of doing the usual sitting back and encouraging them onto us is still as nerve wracking as ever, fortunately Sunderland were really poor pretty much whenever they entered our half. Or theirs. How on earth can Bendtner fool himself into thinking he's one of the best players on the planet after showings like that?

Hopefully we play more like this against Liverpool than we did the other week! Actually, we weren't really too bad there in occasional spells, and if we attack with possession like today it could be a good one.

And yet again we knock in two goals, keep our defensive steel and wander away with three well deserved points. This is beginning to become a habit.

Plus yesterday we got the bonus of Merseyside shiny head keeper no2 bebe reina showing his toolness and butting an opposition player. To be fair Perch went down with the panache of Ratboy but if you live by the dive, you die by the dive. Red card, thank you and that'll be a three game ban for violent conduct. Contact or no, it's violent conduct.

Popping in the liverpool thread it's affirming as ever to the heady mix of "Kenny out", "Kenny needs time", "it was all the FA's fault" and "It was Ferguson what done it". The table never lies lids:

1 Man Utd 30 47 73
2 Man City 31 50 71
3 Arsenal 31 21 58
4 Tottenham 31 20 58
5 Chelsea 31 17 53
6 Newcastle 31 4 53
7 Everton 31 0 43
8 Liverpool 31 3 42
9 Sunderland 31 5 41
10 Fulham 31 -3 39
11 Swansea 31 -4 39
12 Norwich 31 -7 39
13 Stoke 31 -14 38

Two more games since Ventress's post. And 6 more goals, just a shame we shipped 2 at Norwich. But great performance against the mackems. So we're in perfect form to play the Reds. But can we do it? God, I hope so, but form is irrelevant in the derby and they definitely have our number this season. It's a coin toss basically.

COYB!

I was watching the blackburn game last night wishing them on. Oh how I lolled when the red card came out. Then there was almost the second.

But anyway, enough of the fading power of dogleash and his klanfield. I'm pretty stoked that Gueye finally got his first goal. The game where he spent the entire time bombing up and down the left wing shows he has got pace and heart. I just hope he doesn't get disheartened with Moyes' slow bringing on of players and make a mistake and leave like Gosling.

If Peanuts was playing on saturday I'd say it was a shoo-in. As it stands I'd say we were actual favourites despite what all the redhsiters like bignose, and the two muppets from motd like to delude themselves into believing.

PS if you twitter, follow @RAWK_meltdown and lol your face off.

Ah, the inevitable Liverpool cup defeat marking the effective end of an up and down season. Well, apart from the slight chance of finishing above then in the league. <_<

Recipe for a better 2012/13: More cash, a creative player like Donovan/Arteta/Peanut, a still-motivated Moyesie, a bit more composure through the team when it matters, and anything other than a glacial start. Who knows, we could challenge for a top 6 next year.
