Our Your Favorite Things

With your help, Bungie Favorites is going to see a considerable overhaul and revamp in the coming months. Right now Bungie Favorites is updated “when it’s updated” and we haven’t really had the manwidth to dedicate to scanning File Forums and checking everything out – it is an incredible time and volksvacuum getting lost in the File Forums searching for glittering needles among the dowdy bulk of the haystack.

This is where you come in. We want to see your Best of the Best in Screenshots, Films, Games and Map Variants. The easiest way to manage this pipeline is to ask that large fan Communities, like the folks at HBO, Tied the Leader, Rampancy, AoR, X, Y, Z, Q, come up with the best stuff from their Community and get it ready for admission to Bungie Favorites. Filter out your own junk and let the cream rise.

Interested in participating? Here’s how to get started.

Have one person from your organization/community group/web site send me a message on Bungie.net with the subject line Bungie Favorites. In that mail please include the email of who your Community Group’s primary point of contact will be for their one-month ownership of Bungie Favorites and the Web site/Bungie.net Group/organization you’re representing (please include a link so that we can check it out). Once we’ve rounded up a bunch of groups, we’ll send a mass mail out to the emails we’ve received with the dirty details on Favorites and the form to use to submit your two updates for Bungie Favorites that month, in addition to the details to include in the files.

Those details will include a document to fill in with links to the slot and File Share for a given piece of content, whether it’s a Film, Map, Gametype or Screenshot. In addition to some naming conventions and friendly reminders to promote your organizations in the file’s description and let people know where they came from. Lastly, we’d like to have a quick write-up explaining any gametypes you include so that folks reading Bungie.net can.

So I thought I'd try hook us up.

For fun like, you know.

I nominate Krypt as point of contact. Also Preacher's Jumps & Loops and LittleJoe's High Ground map for initial submissions.

Awww shucks.

I intend to be making a come back to this in the coming days. I was in a little tournament of this at school and got a taste for it again.

So hopefully I'll see some of you around.

Bored of CoD4 then?

Not at all, but playing it today made me realise what I've been saying all along. They're both brilliant games but Halo just got swept away by the 'new' best thing.

COD4 doesn't do the intense deathmatch as well as this and it doesn't reward individual skill as well as this, which can be a bad thing or a good thing depending which end of it you're on.

And we're in :)

Alles,

Thanks for the messages on Bungie.net for your interest in participating in the revamped and hybridized version of the long-hushed Community Spotlight mashed-up with current iteration of Bungie Favorites. The attached document is the “form” that you’ll need to fill out for admission into Bungie Favorites. That form contains the following:

· Two Entry Sheets for Bungie Favorites

· Spot for an introduction to your group (penned by you)

· Brief Question and Answer for the Spotlight Portion

Right now there are close to 30 recipients on this email, which at one group per month places us TWO years out for getting entries posted. That timeline will likely be revised to include two community groups a month. We’re hopeful that your respective organizations can fill up two full entries for Bungie Favorites (20 File Slots divided evenly across four categories twice) and as a part of the Q&A we’d like to spotlight one of the maps you’ve included in Favorites. That means including a couple of screenshots for folks (include links to those in your responses, they can be in your fileshare or on a recent screenshots list on Bungie.net or if you host them somewhere else, that’s fine, too. Just send the links and I’ll grab them and include them inline in the story) – we may or may not include this content in the Community Spotlight announcing which group is going to be tied to Favorites for a given two week period (please include the map you’re talking about in your Favorites Entry 1).

Bungie Favorites Entry Sheet:

When filling out the entry sheet, please include a link to the fileshare AND the slot number a given file is in.

For example:

Screenshots

Timing:

The timing of these releases is the trickiest part. Even at one group every two weeks – we’re still looking at a year of Bungie Favorites content – great for us and great for the community, but not so great for your fileshares. That said, as we get completed submissions in batches of 6-8, I’ll resend a note to this group – letting people know that we’re full up for a couple of months of Favorites content and to not feel rushed to try and come up with content items for Bungie Favorites.

Thanks all, we’re looking forward to your submissions.

I'll post tomorrow when I've had a look at the form, I need to download a converter as my version of Office is XP and the file they sent is 2007... <_<

Ooooh Oooh.

I'm currently working on a map called Jim's Nest we also have Preachers Jumps & Loops and Wah's Guardian. Preacher has just started on a Blade Runner variant aswell which he might actually dedicate some time to making if he sees this topic <_<

On Film Clips I suggest we just send in embarassing clips - so for example, Jimmy takes on Thin Air, Brumm Bilco! etc

What we desperately need is an evening of playtesting, for those maps and variants that need them. In this way, it'll truly be the fruit of the community, as opposed to the half-arsed fruit of mine and yours.

So before I submit my latest variant, I want volunteers. Jumps and Loops is finished as far as I'm concerned, so I'm happy to contribute that. I'll choose one from the other two based on how well they're received and whether playtesting proves they're viable.

EDIT: And if you want any help with the writing part of our application - who we are, why we're good and especially how Forge can be improved - I'd like to volunteer.

Happy to help playtesting. When's a good night for everyone?

Nice one.

I'm trying to get a on a bit more - I had a good week of it but have been playing GH3 the last few days. This will have to change.

Had fun trying your gametypes Preach, shame that last one didn't work, it sounded like fun!

I've got a new map variant of Foundry on the go, confined to a small area. Would be glad of a couple of people to test it with, then we could all play a few rounds of matchmaking?

Rllmukhalo is the place to go.

Seconded. Enjoyed that spooky one and would love to try Royale with more players.

Had an idea for a labyrinth style Foundry map last night with walls spawning to cut paths off, teleporters spawning to send you back to the beginning, all kinds of pseudo-random death awaiting. I think it was Preach mentioning Cube that started me thinking but then I veered off into Labyrinth. I think there's room for a few maps/custom games in this area but I'm not sure if it's been done to death at ForgeHub.

I'll mock something up tonight anyway and put it on my fileshare. Will prolly be on tonight for testing if needed.

If we're short of gametypes, there's always my Escort Elim VIP one, which is tested and fairly decent. Works with 6--12 players. I think I'll work on the High Ground map variant a bit more, but it works pretty okay as it is.

I'll be around.

Since you mentioned cube, I might as well talk a bit more about it - I'm going to have to do the unlimited objects glitch to make it work. As it turns out, my idea was eventually to have a maze of cubes that lead to a labyrinth that rested beneath, leading to a hill marker where 1 second signals game over.

If our ideas can't be reconciled into one, we could at least swap ideas on that front. Like I said, I'll be around tonight for testing and whatnot.

It's unlimited budget right? Not objects (unfortunately). You still hit the max for each object at some point. That being said I'll finish prototyping some ideas and fileshare it. I tried a few ideas for my 'moving walls' i.e. walls spawning at x seconds and then dissappearing but couldn't get it to happen reliably. Plus they were mental.

EDIT: Just been reading about switches on ForgeHub/H3Artificer which might help me. Crazy stuff!

Forge is crying out for grouped objects and cut/paste.

Did you try merging scenery yet? It's quite straight forward. I was reading about putting entire objects outside of the 'usable' map geometry yesterday. Crazy stuff...
