Grand Theft Auto IV: PS3 vs 360 Discussions.

MGS3 has about 20 hours for me, and I'm sure being such a huge game for the PS3 it'll have more than that. I hope so anyway, I can't wait for it.

But £15 for 10 hours of a game you love, is a bargain.

MGS4 is so big it tallies up your score after each place in the world you visit. I think I heard on the KojiPro podcast it was longer than MGS3- maybe by about 50% or something? I'm a vet and it still took 18 hours for me to do 3, so you get your money's worth.

But back to the slagging!

So you would happily pay £30 for 2 episodes when you've paid £35 for the game?

When you put it like that, it doesn't sound quite so attractive, (although I have no doubt I'll be getting it myself - see Fazz's Oblivion comparison).

That said, when I was a PC gamer, (ages ago now), I remember being quite happy to pay a relatively substantial amount for expansions to existing games; Blue Shift and Opposing Force for Half-Life spring readily to mind. I don't see this GTA extra content as being any different to that. It's by no means a sequel or a new game, but it adds sufficiently to justify its purchase.

Also, are we speculating on the cost of the DLC still, or has the £15 price tag been confirmed?

Exactly. The only idiots in this thread are the ones who are allowing themselves to be wound up by him.

Hello! And I think Uzi hit the nail on the head. If the roles were reversed and the exclusive espisodes were coming out on the PS3 and not the 360, he'd be wetting himself in anticipation rather than trying to dismiss them.

Still speculating. Although reading the interview by the Sam Houser interview where he says

He promises the DLC will be of the substantial variety, and that users will certainly get value for money, the GTA makers vowing that purchasers won't feel let down by their online offerings.

Value for money for an episode that is meant to add 10 hours worth of content doesn't sound like it is going to be cheap at all.

Ah, then price is largely irrelevent - what matters is whether the DLC, at whatever price, really represents value for money. To do this I guess you'd have to compare the price and the size, (size in terms of how much extra game time you get, rather than file size), of the DLC to the price and the size of the original release. In those terms, I wouldn't be suprised to find that the DLC was actually "over-priced", but not enough to put anyone off.

All will become clear in the fullness of time.

Yes, there abouts. It'll probably clock in more at 20-22 quid altogether for them. Shivering Isles certainly deserved the outlay.

People who buy Gran Turismo Prologue and then GT5 pay around £65 for ALL THE SAME CONTENT. That far worse in principle and you just pointed out that they're far FAR bigger idiots. At lease the DLC is new shit.

All wickedkitten points out is a numbers attraction issue we have in our head, but frankly its got fuck all to do with gaming. I've spent £30 in live arcade on far less or spent £30 on a game that lasts 7 hours so it means fuck all really.

Arent you buying the special edition? Personally for me I'd rather buy more game content than a bag and a lockbox.

Is there any way we can turn this thread into a poll just for the LULZ?

In your opinion, which version of Grand Theft Auto 4 will be superior?

-Xbox 360

-Playstation 3

Not including the PC version of course because who plays games on a PC these days?

Yeah, this is like a pen for herding nutters into to keep them from stinking up threads about specific games. You can then nuke everyone in the thread from orbit (except for me of course) and the forum will be a better place!

See I'm completely different,Oblivion isn't in the same category to me mainly because with Elder Scrolls games, its the mods that make the game which is why I have bought every single bit of DLC that came out for it (yes including the horse armour although that wasn't my call). Hell, I still have about 4 dvds full of mods for Morrowind kicking around.

GTA4 is a game with 40 hours of mission content and then another 60 hours of side missions, that's without taking into account the amount of time that you would spend dossing about doing silly shit. Now I don't know about you, but I have played and finished all of the previous GTA games. Not only have I played and finished all of them, but I did it without DLC and without multiplayer so those aren't going to do anything to sell the game to me simply because of the fact that they are included.

The PSP games were literally expansion packs of the original games. And I played them. So thats evidence enough to me that I'll want to play more GTA. When it comes out in August, once we all finished the game months ago it might seem very appealing indeed. And everyone will be playing a different tune then when GTA4 will be old news and the DLC will be new news.

But it was the money question thats the main one. To me you buying the special edition for 50 quid or whatever compared to someone buying the game and DLC for 60 is far less value. But thats your choice and it just proves the initial outlay means nothing in context when the best selling game in Europe for a while was GT5 Prologue.

I tend to buy the collectors edition of all the games that I actually do like loads so spending £58 on it compared to getting the standard version doesn't bother me. See, thats the difference between me and you I guess, if you want to buy the 360 version for something that isn't even coming out for another 4 months thats fine. I can STILL buy the 360 version and the DLC later.

Hey!

This thread is one of those, currently vogue, guilty pleasures things. I don't have a problem with it - I can give it up when ever I want. ^_^

I'm buying the 360 version for multiplayer and the pad. The DLC is a nice bonus. And saves me buying the game twice, if it's any good and not having to worry about saves (don't want to use the DLC when my main save would be on another console?). I can STILL buy the PS3 version now too, I'm not sure what the point is?

Point is then that sixty quid on the full game and dlc when it comes out isn't bad at all in the context of things. If people spend that on the main game and some extra non game stuff do go with it, I don't see why spending that on the game and more game would be any less sensible.
