Grand Theft Auto IV: PS3 vs 360 Discussions.

I'm buying the 360 version for multiplayer and the pad. The DLC is a nice bonus. And saves me buying the game twice, if it's any good.

Point is then that sixty quid on the full game and dlc when it comes out isn't bad at all in the context of things.

I'll have multiplayer with Soong and Murray and that's worth it ^_^

Ive pretty much decided Ill buy the 360 version.

The reason is that seeing as I dont own a PS3, but do own a 360, it seems like the logical decision to make. Or should I just buy the PS3 version in case I decide to buy a PS3 further down the line?

What do you guys think?

According to amazon.com sales rankings, the versions are pretty much neck and neck.

Not surprising. Fact is, a lot of people out there assume that GTA is a brand synonymous with the playstation. In their minds it's the definitive version.

When I left work I popped around my local indie store that my mate manages - chances are they are far down the distribution list as it's a tiny "1 man band" shop but popular in my city. According to him the shop has been allocated 75 360 copies and only 25 PS3 copies - he's had pre orders for more PS3 than 360 and requested more stock of that version. Mental. He's not looking forward to release now as he's going to have unhappy punters! Even the 75 360 copies he has are not enough to satisfy a small shop's pre-orders!

I went to Gamestation today and they weren't taking anymore pre-orders, the woman said they'd taken about 700. Luckily I got it pre-ordered from Game.

I imagine that about half of those pre-orders were for the PS3 version.

Chances are, most of this guys customers probably have both consoles. But, yeah, he said he had more PS3 pre orders and while he never went into shortfall numbers, he had a furrowed brow and never shared my excitement for getting the game. 50 copies difference must be a lot for a wee shop that has a solid, regular customer base.

Generally speaking, cutting edge gamers are probably more likely to own a PS3 so it's not surprising that there's a lot of them pre-ordering the PS3 version of this 'game of games'. 360 owners will probably just wait until May to get it once they remember.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Another reason why the 360 version is a no go for me, is the same reason why I stopped playing DMC 4 on the 360.

LB and RB were never designed for pressing and holding down. Yes - I know that you could change the use of RB to RT in DMC 4, but as I recall it was only a good thing until you started playing as Dante, since RT had to be used for something else while playing as him.

I suspect those two buttons will be used rather often in GTA IV on the 360, and if they are used for lock-on and need to be pressed and held down and can't be changed in the options = 360 version is a waste of time for me.

If LB and RB are used for the in-car controls, that also makes the 360 version a big no-no. Imagine having to hold down those buttons while doing drive-by's or looking left or right or having to press both to look behind the car.

Here's hoping that Rockstar somehow makes LT and RT do the most work on the 360 version and not use LB and RB at all, or at least not for important stuff.

You quoted someone saying pre-orders (at amazon) were equal and then went on to explain why they're picking one version over another.

Um, what? In all of my time playing Pro Evo (6 and 08) I've never ever had a problem holding down RB, what are you on about? In fact, I find it easy enough to keep RB held down and press RT with the same finger!

What am I on about? LB and RB are a bit shit - unless they are used for non-important stuff or are not requirered to be pressed and held down. They are good for reloading weapons in GoW and Halo 3.

But compare them to L1 and R1 on all Dual Shock controllers and the Sixaxis. Those are much, much better buttons.
