...is this for real? What kind of rumour is that!

It's not much, but for me Thief is gaming at its finest. The possibility, however small, of a new Thief game is reason enough to get a bit excited and start hoping that the rumours are true.

Well, much to my geeky shame I've not played Thief 1 or 2 properly, did the first level on both, but my PC was never up to it.

I absolutely loved Thief 3, even the shitty Xbox conversion (which apparently had twice as many load zones!!), the world was amazing, even if the storyline was a bit shit.. so shit that I can't even remember any of it, pretty much. But it did have some some excellent ideas and very memorable locations ;) and some hatty hats.

Please god no! After thief 3 I can't take seeing Garret get raped again.

I was waiting for your reaction. ;)

I understand what you're saying, and I'm also afraid that a different dev team won't 'get' Thief, but there's also a chance it will be a worthy follow-up to the brilliant first two games. As disappointing as Thief 3 was, it had some outstanding moments (the cradle) and ideas that had potential but were handled completely wrong (the whole walking around the city thing).

Like I said, Thief is gaming at its finest for me, and I would love a worthy follow-up to the first two games. If it turns out to be crap, I will be just as angry and disappointed as you.

You would love the first two games, but I never managed to get them working properly in XP. The cut-scenes use some weird codec that doesn't sit well with XP iirc.

Um, Thief 3 was great. It was flawed, and a compromised vision relative to the first two, but it was fucking great to play and had a "swallow me" atmosphere right from the off. Best medieval videogame world ever. Better than Assassins Creed, if you ask me.

Check the forums at Through the Looking Glass, they've got loads of troubleshooting guides.

I got Thief 2 working on XP easily after following those, and I didn't regret it. One of my favourite games ever.

Also, Thief 3 was great. Far from perfect but it had some excellent stuff in it. The Widow's Mansion, the Hammerite Cathedral, and the infamous Cradle especially.

Ageed 110%

Okay so it wasnt as good as Thief 1 and 2, but 3 was by no means a bad game.. it had plenty of outstanding levels and had me totally hooked till the end.

A Thief 4 simply HAD to happen..it was only a matter of time.

My only request for Thief 4 (should it ever happen), is to excise a few of the awful American accents. Now don't get me wrong, whilst some of the anachronistic voice work held a certain appeal (in what is a pseudo-medieval setting), when a shopkeeper talks like Mae West, it's a bit too much.

It's just a rumour for now, like it says in the first post. We don't even know for sure if there's really going to be a Thief 4, let alone what platforms it's going to be released for.

I get that it's just a rumour, the white and coloured balls on the front of my face confirmed that for me- but you show a link in your first post which I could not access. The link may have stated which platform it is rumoured to be on. Hence my question :D

I didn't mean anything by it, I was just trying to say that the link gives no additional info (all the relevant points are quoted in the first post) and there's no platform rumoured yet. No need to roll your eyes.

Sorry Yo, wasn't having a dig - was just trying to be funny in reply. Perhaps I should be paying more attention to work matters but the boss is out for the day and I'm caning the boards.

But videogames starting with T? Turok, Terminator, Toejam & Earl...

Eh? What are you trying to say? That games starting with T are shit? What about Turrican, Taxi, Terminal Velocity, Test Drive Unlimited, Tetris, The Elder Scrolls series, The Thing, Throne of Baal, Tiger Woods, TOCA series, Tomb Raider series, Tony Hawk series, Top Spin series, Total Annihilation, Trackmania series, Transport Tycoon deluxe...need I go on? Games starting with T are ace.

THI4F

(bump!)

After a long silence, some new and rather worrisome bit of news emerged today courtesy of The Sarge. From the Deus Ex 3 (pffft) thread:

Square Enix's Tokyo developers are to work on the cinematics for Eidos Montreal's upcoming Deus Ex sequel, the studio's general manager Stephane D'Astous told us.

"Deus Ex 3 is going to be the first project which will be a concrete product of joint effort between Square Enix and Eidos," said D'Astous. "The cinematics—by which I mean any CGI pre-rendered cinematics — are going to be done in Tokyo by Square Enix, and that's going to be amazing."

Explaining the background for this announcement, D'Astous said, "It was in April when Square Enix acquired us, and by June, July I was trying to think of a project we could do together. One morning I woke up and I said, we'll, they're known for their cinematics, so why not get them involved with those?"

Though the level of cinematic sequences in Deus Ex 3 is currently un-announced, D'Astous claimed Square Enix would at least be working on the trailers and the introduction cinematic.

"We already have some pre-visualisations," continued D'Astous. "The people in Tokyo are just so glad to work on it; this is the first project for them that's a non-Final Fantasy title— they even want to work on Thief 4 too, so everyone is really excited."

On the one hand I'm all excited and overjoyed to hear again from Thief 4, even if the announcement is for some other game. On the other hand the thought of a Thief game with wank anime cutscenes fills me with dread and nausea. Still, the game is alive! Alive!

Well, so far we know two things about Thief 4:

1) THI4F (allegedly pronounced thee-aff)

2)Possible Squeenix cutscenes

Not the most encouraging info to work with tbh. They've basically announced nothing except it's existence, but if they've been working on it ever since the rumours, surely there's a proper reveal coming in 2010, at E3 for example? Man, if both Thief 4 and Hitman 5 were announced for a 2010 release my brain will probably not be able to cope with the amount of happiness that would overwhelm me and just melt or something. Assuming that Thief 4 is any good of course, but I always tend to think in terms of the first two games and automatically assume that any sequel would build on those brilliant foundations.
