Metal Gear Solid 4

Me too, I thought Kojima was just toying with us, and that some epic fanfare would kick in at the end, but nope. It would make sense though.

Ha just read this in regards to Raiden's character design,

Yoji Shinkawa (Metal Gear Solid 1,2,3,4 portable ops character designer) explains that Raiden is the cyborg Ninja in Metal Gear Solid 4 to represent the abuse he recieved for being the character he is and the main role in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Raiden is literally falling apart. All that remains of Raiden's human self is his head and his spine. The rest of him are cybernetic attachments which give him the abilities of the Cyborg Ninjas we have seen the previous titles.

Been playing my second playthrough tonight,

with the Masked Raiden Facecamo, and the podcast on, its even better second time through!

Kojima Productions are simply awesome

I ended up flicking through the manual after the end of my first play session. There were a few things, like wobbly ring round snake, that I wasn't sure about. But even these are explained in the briefing section of the pause menu. CQC is explained there in a couple of screens, and is a cinch to pull off once you know how it works. It wasn't until towards the end of Act 1 that I was completely comfortable with the controls. My opening couple of hours were spent constantly tweaking the various look speeds and playing about with over-the-shoulder and first person views to find which were best.

Since Act 2 onwards, the controls always do exactly what I want, even if they are a bit over complicated. But this is the first MGS game whose controls don't let you down in the heat of battle. In 1-3, I would constantly crawl when I wanted to crouch, and vice versa.

Hey guys, sat down for my first epic session tonight. Got it on launch but have been very short on time. Till tonight. The Wife is working tonight, Im now on Act 2/Power Station. Like all the Metal Gear games to me, the first playthrough is about seeing the story and learning the controls, I will worry about no kills etc on future play throughs. My only let down so far was the Act 1 boss fight. Act 2 so far is awesome. Whats everyones gun of choice. My Custom M4 is a bit of a deathbringer, fore grip, suppressor, and shotgun attachment. Whats the prefered set up?

I've bought or found almost every gun (apart from the specials), and I'd use them all except for lack of silencer on most of them, which is a real shame. I'd love to use the FiveSeven or Glock as my main pistol, but it won't let you put a silencer on there. I'm sure most people will get the most use out of the M4, mine has the silencer, foregrip and rifle scope., I don't like the MGS4 version of the red dot. I use the FN FAL if sound isn't a problem. I'm using the silenced MK23 as my pistol now. I also use the shotgun with non-lethal rounds sometimes mucking about on the first chapter.

I thought the shotgun attachment wasn't much use, I kept forgetting it was there. On the second play through, I bought an actual shotgun, and that was much better, turning a corner and seeing two guys hunched near a window and giving them what for with non deadly rounds, then having my wicked way with them! Rifle scope is great though, very steady with a foregrip attachment and much clearer than the red dot, which puts all kinds of modelled frames and housings in your face.

That's a lie isn't it? :)

or am I just terrible? :(

Nope, I died 3 times during the whole game (on easiest difficulty ;) ). Twice on act 4

once falling through a gap in the floor just before Rex's hanger, and once during the fight with vamp because I was naive and didn't look at the health gauge

 The 3rd time I "died" was during ct5 where I managed to

slash Meryl's throat with CQC instead of jabbing her with the syringe, which was accompanied by a rather gruesome ending

:P

Finished act 2 last night.

Holy. Shit.

This game is going to make me an elitist son of a bitch. The controls work amazingly well and the change between stealth and action mechanics is not a gimmick. It can really be played the way you want to. By the start of act 2 I was switching between stealth approach and action approach like a pro. Amazing responsiveness. The details in this game. The change of pace and variety... Jesus...

I still believe that the graphics make GoW look like, well, not that good. Especially the models, they are beyond equal, ever. This is the first game where we can safely say that we have bridged most (if not all) of the gap between real time and CG. It's shocking actually.

And those cutscenes... I'll never look at cutscenes the same way again...

I like to be on the side of the Resistance/Militia/etc so I try to help them out by Sniping the PMC's but they just seem to always get replaced & we never seem to advance. Do they just respawn endlessly until you move beyond a certain point?

Character models are amazing the rest is a bit iffy though, textures dont hold up close up and levels are very down a path still overall a great looking game though.

I didnt get a boss fight in act 1? what are you on about?

Oh yeah, Im talking about the first boss fight, which I assume is what he is talking about. If not looks like the wires are getting crossed.

The first boss fight is truly amazing though. Im neasr the end of act 4 and it hasnt been bettered yet, which is a shame as I kinda hoped they would keep up at that standard. They are all still good though.

Devil-goh needs to confirm what he's on about then, cos I'm confused, I will agree the Boss fight cut-scene close to the end of act 1 is awesome though.

Oh yeah. <_<

That echoing laughter "I'm over here....", & trying to cover all angles as you search for her without letting her disguises fool you.

The beginning of Act 3 is a nice change of pace too though. Reminds me of movies like the first

Mission Impossible

& some sections of the

Bourne series.
