collectors wanted

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, we're looking for readers of the mag with unusual collections. Maybe you just collect Star Wars games, or perhaps you have to own every Dreamcast game in existence. Anyway, if you've got an interesting collection I'd love to hear from you.

I've got around 150 GBA/GBC/GB games, 100 Saturn games, 140 PS1 games, 40 N64 games, 50 PC Engine games, 60 DC games, pretty much all the decent titles for those formats. I guess i have a pretty decent shmup & RPG collection over the various consoles, but i've probably got too much new stuff for you to be interested Darran.

Unfortunately the newer stuff is taking over the old stuff as i've been running out of room over the past couple of years.

Here's my http://flickr.com/photos/85461228@N00/ page. It's a good year out of date though (much more cluttered and untidy now).

Id assume that by unusual he would mean stuff out of the norm. Like a complete japanese Final Fantasy collection over 20 odd years, a full collection of games for a jap only system etc etc

Yeah i know what you mean. Unfortunately all my "cool" stuff has had to go (nice Jap MD , Super Famicom, Wonderswan collections).

I no longer had the time, space or money to keep them going and as Dandy says common sense kicks in and stops you from buying cool (but at the end of the day) unplayable games. I no longer can justify spending a fortune on games i may not play. There's far too much good stuff being released now, especially on the handhelds. I can barely keep up with the current systems but i still somehow manage to buy the odd retro gem.

What made you stop?

1) I live in my parents house and so have limited space

2) I now have a smaller room

3) More and more stuff kept coming out and it and I was still missing older items

4) I worked out there was a lot of things I could buy that I could actually use instead

5) Ultimately the biggest thing I learnt while collecting was that items that were once considered rare and valuable depreciate fairly quickly when people on ebay start flooding the market compared to when I started. Even reasonable prices I paid back then look like a joke now. I remember when the rarer soundtracks went for £150 each on ebay (the VII limited ost and the IV,V and VI piano collections - the ones with the sheet music, not the cd only reprints). Now you'd probably pay £30-50. Better for me to wait few years if I decide to carry on. I'll save a small fortune

So it was a contribution of factors. Displaying the collection took a lot of room that I simpy don't have anymore. If I can't play a lot of it (or have english versions available to me), and I can't display it, there seems little point in my buying more. At last count I had 60 odd games and 60 odd albums... I've only sold a couple of each
