What's the official wheel like? Don't have a table to put it on though :(

It's not bad. FFB is a tad weaker than the Logitech wheels, but you can't rest them on your lap like you can with the 360 wheel. The pedals have a good method of reducing them sliding forwards but the springs in them aren't very strong, so you've got to be quite sensitive with them. It's a good wheel for the price and is wireless if you don't mind missing out on FFB by not plugging it into the wall.

The rain looks like it's pretty damn tricky

It looks like it's supposed to be, during wet conditions.

I noticed the 1st 2 bends on Suzuka don't have the sloped camber that it has IRL. Damn. Pre-order cancelled.

oh arse I was determined not to get a wheel for the 360 but watching that vid make me want to try. What's the cheapest way of giving it a try? I'd probably want to get the pedals too eventually.

Get the official 360 wheel. It comes with pedals. Why you'd want to have a wheel without pedals first is beyond me, though.

It's not weaker, it depends on how much force feedback strength has been programmed into each game by its developers. FM3 has different resistance strength levels for each car (depends on the drive of the car - FWD, RWD or AWD). Codies exaggerated the strength in DiRT2 for example.

And although you can rest the 360 wheel on your lap, you really shouldn't. It jumps all over the place. DON'T REST A FFB WHEEL ON YOUR LAP.

to say i'm gutted i have this weekend 100% free and i'm away all next weekend is an understatement. FFFFFFUUUUU

I'm the same. :(

So obviously I accept this would be better with a wheel but is there a case to be made that the precision braking and acceleration pressure needed might be easier to input with the triggers of a control pad? I think that was what I had the biggest issue with in Forza 3 when I had a wheel.

So 10cm of travel in a pedal is less precise than 1cm of travel in a trigger? IDGI.

Because you've been there, right?

WRONG:

Think I will have to try and smooth my usual ragged style if I want to stay pointing forwards.

Same here. I usually like to drive aggressively, dart into corners and kick the tail out a bit sometimes. It's far from wise to do that here. Back to school it is

Look again. The track slopes right down towards the 2nd corner, and there's a lot more camber in the bends as well, compared to the F1 game.

No, but my suggestion was that it might be easier for some to input it with a finger rather than a foot. Especially when the pedals don't have quite enough resistance and it takes some getting used to. I found it was hard at times to be sure how much pressure you were applying, although yes, it does become kind of instinctive after a while but I think it's easier to hold back with a finger than resist the temptation to floor the pedal.

It's the 'getting used to' bit that is half the game for me. I love to play it as difficult as possible because that will only make me better at the game. Plus it gives me greater satisfaction.

I've just got the mrs to go out and get me Forza for practice. Meerman, fancy an F1 warm up session? F1 circuits I need lessons.

I can't play today ('t is me birthday, got friends and family over tonight) but i could give you a couple of games tomorrow if you want? Let me know when you're on.

I've watched it about 5 times now, with the two video's running side by side. There is a minor difference, yes, but the actual real-life version of the track has been changed after Forza 3.

Thanks, guys! ^_^

"Yeah, let's change the track guys! Forza 3 has been released!"

I can see it now. ;)

Seriously though, I know the track has undergone a makeover in order to be able to host F1 again, but I was unaware they've changed the characteristics of those 1st two bends as well. What a shame! :(

Can't believe there's no demo yet?! Why is that, it's out next week, I thought Codemasters were always pretty good with getting demos out for their racing games. Arrrrrgh!

They've announced some time ago that there won't be a demo. Pay attention at the back of the class, please! :P

Yes some lessons tomorrow would be awesome!!! Thank you!

You only have to thank yourself! It will be my pleasure.

Yeah, so do I, although I might not do that straight away with this. I'm not trying to say that a pad is in any way better but I think I might find the subtlety that braking acceleration needs a bit easier under the controls of my fingers than my size 14s.

So my Forza driving lessons were completely useless? :(

i did 50 laps on Spa this morning on F3 on Grid. My left foot is killing me haha!

Started getting my times right down though, but it feels like the car is glued to the road, so i don't want to get too used to it. I think Forza will play far more like F1.

IF ONLY MY MRS WOULD HURRY UP AND GET HOME!!!!!!
