Nintendo E3 Conference: Done & Dusted

Anyone know which of these feeds works on a Mac? I know the IGN one does, but I'd rather not use it as, while it was quite high quality, it also had a few minutes delay on the MS conference.

Nintendo's one is working for me so far. Not that the conference has started or anything though, so it could flop on its arse when it starts.

The Nintendo one looks like it does. It's showing the countdown here, at least.

EDIT: Curse you, NEG.

I kind of thought that the countdown looked like it should have a WMV (or something) plug-in window above it that wasn't coming up on my machine. But maybe I'm overthinking it. I've got the IGN one up anyway, just in case.

It is strange to announce it before the show. Imagine them doing a la-de-dar show and then 5 minutes from the end he shows off these new few games and then pulls the addon out his suit and is like CHECK DIS SHIT OUT!

Maybe Wii won't get much attention (does it need it?) and the show will mainly be used to show off the new DS...? Or new GAME BOY?!

Nah. It makes sense. It lets them focus on whatever game needs it, rather than any possibly negative thoughts about accessories during the big reveal. Gets it all out the way before hand. That and they probably thought MS were going to reveal something.

Eh? Surely the GC remake of Resident Evil shows that something with the Wii power could easily do a justifiable remake of something FFVII.

Which still used static backgrounds (admittedly well textured and light sourced). A VII remake would not use the flat static backgrounds it did on the ps1 - Crisis Core certainly didn't, and a remake of VII would hardly be going backwards

He clearly meant that the Wii can't do the game on the technical level that Square wants, based on the tech demo.

Bingo. Considering how good Crisis Core looks, a VII remake would have to look better. not only does the wii not do high def (not essential but the benefits are obvious), it's gamecubex1.5, which isn't far enough ahead of the psp in graphics terms in this case

A wiimake could easily be done, but the game is more then deserving of much more oomph behind it

It hasn't really generated that much excitement though, has it? I think Nintendo might have a tough sell with this one: there are lot of (easily) jaded geek gamers after the feverish speculation about the possibilities of the existing controller, then the wheel and so on...and the wider market really couldn't care less about such stuff.

Unless, of course, the software supporting it is so good and so attractive - like Sports - that it sells the device. It'll have to have a really broad appeal though, and I don't know how that'll play amongst the entrenched 'trad' gamers. I've a feeling that this could be something that'll only serve to make them feel the gulf between them and Nintendo is wider than ever.

Unless there's more than one killer app for it, of course.

Also: I don't think Square Enix could possibly handle the wave of attacks against them that would be perpetuated by Dandy Sephy and his ilk if they hit them with the double whammy of FFXIII on 360 and FFVII remake on Wii.

Looking forward to seeing Punch-Out in motion, really hope they nail the controls because it could be fantastic. I have a feeling we'll see a racing game as well, don't know if it'll be F-Zero or Excitetruck but something tells me the wheel hasn't seen it's last Nintendo made game.
