Yeah that stinks, I'm sure I'll find some albums to upload in FLAC or something... I just won't grab anything until I have a decent amount of upload credit. I can't really see where you can go wrong though, I mean What.CD give you 500mb upload credit to start with anyway.

No worries guys, I don't think they can ban me for things that my invitees do anyway. Incidentally, I always find the Requests section is good to have a look through if you're looking to bump up ratios and whatnot, you get bonus upload credit for filling a request.

They can in some instances.. I just read the rules and it said you are responsible for your invitees and you will be banned in certain cases.

Ah here we go -

You're completely responsible for the people you invite. If your invitees are caught cheating or trading/selling invites, not only will they be banned, so will you. Be careful who you invite. Invites are a precious commodity.

6 of the 8 I'd invited up til yesterday have been banned :omg:

Bastards. It's such an amazing resource I just want everyone to enjoy it as much as me, and the freedom to do that only comes by building as big a buffer as you can then blazing through it every so often. It's such a great site to browse that it's a real pleasure.

New guys, it's well worth keeping an eye on the requests as some people offer crazy bounty for stuff that's easily obtained. I've bought a few things just to fill big requests.

Edit - yeah, I'm a bit slower typing on my phone.

I don't even remember who invited me. Is there a way to check?

The freeleech stuff totally pushed my ratio so far up that I don't even have to worry about it anymore. Which is nice.

Oh wow, I just googled some random artists in the requests section... lots of FLACs I can contribute. Getting to work then.

If you can convince me that you have good ratios on other private sides you use (What.cd is notoriously hard for maintaing a ratio), convince me that you're going to use it instead of letting it lapse or you have a really amazing taste in music then I may be able to spare invites.

You are well within your limits; the "required" bit means what you need to stay above to stop being banned; you need to drop to 0.1 to get kicked off (i.e. Up 9.84GB, Down 984GB). The key seems to be seed, seed, seed rather than hit and run.

I don't think so, just stay above 0.01 and you won't lose your account. I've read it a few times and am still a bit confused too, but it seems to now factor in how many torrents you're seeding and then lowering your required ratio accordingly.

Presumably because on a site with a 40:1 seed/leech ratio and nearly 700,000 torrents we're getting to the point where it's very difficult for newcomers to stay positive, rewarding those who seed even if no-one is actually downloading what they're putting up makes sense.

The new ratio rules are simple.

The percentage of torrents downloaded that you are still seeding controls your required ratio. The more torrents you seed, the lower it is. The less torrents you seed, the more it is.

http://what.cd/rules.php?p=ratio

It will vary between the minimum and maximum requirements there. If you seed 100% you needn't actually upload a kb until 20gb. Once you get past 100gb, the system becomes irrelevant.

I just made my first proper request. I feel accomplished.

Me please! My only concern is that on waffles, I moved my torrent folder to another drive, and it refuses to recognise any torrents from the old folder. Does anyone know of a remedy for this? I thought about putting the files into the new torrent folder and then redownloading the torrent itself, I'm hoping that will scan the torrent and count me as a seed. Any ideas?

Knowing full well that a perfect quality, wonderfully tagged version of a certain album would be available on this site, I instead paid £10 for a flac download off boomkat. Is that as much as you'd usually pay for a CD, despite the fact that there are no distribution costs involved? Why yes it is. Stunningly, the tags needed sorting out. Why the fuck can't I just get my stuff off what.cd, then paypal the artists a fiver or something. ARGH

Record execs better appreciate my efforts.
