Call of Duty: World at War

It's COD4 but with a different backdrop and not QUITE as good with everything it does.

I know it's a copycat, but i can't put my finger on why, everything feels just... less.

War and Capture the flag are really good additions, but i think they'd be more enjoyed in COD4.

No need to worry thought, Cod VI will be out next year (or will it be Cod 1, 2, 3, 4, WaW, 5?), and it'll be all new and lasers and real future war, possibly.

I've had a good play on this and really enjoyed it. I haven't played COD4 for a good couple of months though so can't really tell if it's any worse or not. It does feel more like an add on pack than a full game in terms of how it plays, not sure if all the extra content would make it worth a full price purchase.

Considering I've got about 5 hours of solid, fun playtime out of the beta my preorder will stay put :(

I'm really looking forward to unlocking all the weapons on the multplayer and more crazy ass new perks/vehicles. The coop should definitely keep my compulsions to set japanese soldiers aflame under wraps throughout the winter months...

Thought i'd pop in to try and inject some positivity back into the thread. It's fast becoming the trademark rllmuk negativity-a-thon...

Isn't it obvious? It's because a lot of people on WaW have never played CoD4. Almost everyone on CoD4 has played for at least 20 hours.

Aye totally.

COD4 is now populated by Ninjas.

I vary my time across numerous game and have not put in MEGA hours like a lot of people. I've still logged over 75 hours on it.

But fuck! people are Just insanely good at the game now :(

People buy CoD for the campaign? CoD4's was dreadfully annoying with its stupid backward respawn mechanic.

COD4 is a superb but shallow, rollercoaster of a game. I loved it. But it's only really good when played on Regular and played quickly. Done is one of two sittings.

The respawning isn't that bad at all. It's far less pronounced than the respawning in COD2.

COD3 was fucking awful. I didn't even finish it, binned it after getting totally stuck on scenery for the gazillionth time.

Gutted you didn't like it. I fucking loved it :(

Meh litterally hates everything, probably including himself. *winky.

Since it's going to be co-op, it has me wondering if they're going to ditch the respawning this time? Be pretty hard to not make it seem ridiculous if one player's ahead of the rest and have bad guys appear behind him.

Yeah, the general level of skill in CoD4 is now so high that it can be a frustrating experience to play it casually. I used to be pretty good, but play so infrequently now that I'm useless. Luckily when I play it's mostly with friends in private matches. A couple of them are good enough to carry the rest of us if we go public. That's one reason I might play more CoD WaW than CoD4 although the games are so similar that I think the CoD4 ninjas will feel right at home.

I had a go at using only the bolt-action rifles last night... Jesus it was hard. Without stopping power (I had to try) they're next to useless. Fire off a shot at anyone and if it's not a kill expect to get gunned down while you frantically reload. With stopping power, I did a bit better sniping with the Springfield. Unlocked the bayonet, which extends the reach of your melee a lot - shame you can't have bayonet and a scope. I'd love to get good with the sniper rifles in CoD4/WaW... I have endless admiration for folk who can run about with a sniper rifle, zoom in unerringly and headshot you in a second. Bastards.

Also, I read that you can deploy the bipod on the MGs by pressing X when beside a ledge? Is that right? Fucksakes... I've had it for ages on the Bar and just thought it upped the accuracy.

I would assume that the re-spawning would have to go to some extent thankfully. The re-spawning issue was far worse in CoD4 than CoD2. Even on veteran CoD2 you felt as though it was entirely clear and sensible when you had to move forwards and when you didn't. I never once had a moment where I grenaded a room about 15 foot away only to walk forward 2 paces and have 3 enemies spawn and instakill me.

Re-spawning is fine as long as the enemies as moving forward from a position far enough back that you can actually believe that they are re-inforcements being sent in. CoD4 had many moments where lazy level design resulted in re-spawn point being in the middle of nowhere, way too close to the player.

Is anyone else getting really fed up with people being able to get below the level on Roundhouse, it's clearly a bug - they're literally 10ft below the level where the disused station is. You can't see them from the surface but they can shoot up and kill you. Very frustrating indeed. Just had a Free for All match where no one was fighting and they were all trying to get under the level with a young man with a squeaky voice telling them how to do it.

Hope it's fixed in the full version. I guess this is what the beta is for... :/

Yeah, am getting sick and tired of people doing it and being really proud of it. One guy got 27 - 0 and was saying 'I owned you all..yyyeeahhh!!'

Ive completed cod4's campaign abotu a dozen more times than Halo 3's. Its pure old school arcade thrill ride stuff but its perfectly executed. Respawning enemies dont hurt it at all except on the hardest setting

Does anybody have a spare key, please

I'm trying to convince my brother-in-law to buy the game and he wont trust me that it's fun and is refusing to buy it till he can try it. Problem is he lives miles away so he cant just pop over an play mine.

Thanks guys.

Exactly! They were all whooping and screaming saying stuff like

"OMGZ I LIKE TOTALLY GOT 30 KILL STREAK!!!11!!!"

I mean, if you do it, at least make light of it... the problem needs to be exposed in the beta stage but it's hardly impressive to kill 30 people when they can't see you or hurt you.

artillery strike can kill them, which is very satisfying.

ive gone under the level once for a laugh just to see if i could. what i wanna know is how the hell do people find these things? i mean going prone and slowly moving into a set of bricks at a precise point on the map wtf
