Call of Duty: World at War

Well ok WWII has been done to death, an M1 is no G3 and and a pineapple grenade is no claymore. But if you want war in all it's intensity I don't think you can find a better gaming experience.

I am really pleasantly surprised.

After the shit that was quantum of solace, you can't go wrong for 27 quid.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but it's my only bugbear so far that Hardcore modes can't be unlocked until you hit level 18. That means I have to sit through umpteen matches with laggy fuckers killing me time and time again because they're impossible to kill :(

I love it! I've been playing non-stop for the last 4 hours and it's just a great fps. Easily the best WW2 game I've played.

The weapons feel meaty and sound awesome. The graphics are really nice and full of character, and the action never lets up.

It's pretty brutalt too, limbs are routinely blownoff, skulls are shattered and its got bloodsprays to rival Gears of War. :(

After the awesome but sprawling Far Cry 2, it's nice to be lead by the hand through some fantastic set-pieces.

Just finished the campaign. Very good. Not sure it mixed things up quite enough, but it was very exciting for the most part. One bit I got stuck on for quite a while (

entering the Reichstag - three times that flamethrower guy got me even though I wasn't standing near the flag bearer bloke

) but all in all I enjoyed myself.

I didn't play an awful lot of COD4 (I played a bit of online, but only a couple of missions of the campaign) so it's hard for me to say how it compares, but it's certainly up there with the best WWII shooters. In fact, it's possibly the best of the bunch.

I was going to mention that. There's nothing like watching the enemy just explode Rambo IV style...it makes you keep spraying bullets even after a headshot.

Lovely stuff, I'm not embaressed to say I've gone full circle on this in Story mode. Itching to complete it.

Just finished the campaign - EPIC last chapter.

Looking back, for me it's the Japanese levels that were flat.

Hmmm, 8.2/10

Those stages don't seem too bad at the moment, did enjoy the use of the

Airstrikes

willy-nilly, but it does appear they only work in certain scenarios (e.g. You can't clear a housed compound using them, but couple tanks? No probs.

There's a rather blatant nod to All Ghillied Up quite early on, probably my favourite level so far. Really surprised with this, was expecting the very worst after the beta and Quantum Of Solace but it's really rather good.

Online's alright, quite why they've level-locked all the gametypes is beyond me but it kept me up til 2am so must be doing something right.

Started playing SP on Veteran - got toward the end of the chapter and the bloody game locked up on me :(

Restarted the 360 and was looking to reload from the last checkpoint but does it? It 'loads last checkpoint' and it's right at the frigging start of the game :(
