PES 2009 announced

The first was a 135 turn, no fake shot, the second was a 90 fake shot.

:) ok.

Except that they are both shot fakes and the ball changes direction by 180 degrees each time.

Point is, anything you can do in PES is doable in FIFA (bar diving of course), and that's simply not true in reverse. Just try marking someone from a throw-in for an easier example and more obviously stupid flaw. Which makes statements like 'more exciting stuff happens in PES' and

Enjoying the experience is halfway to fun, the other half is the fact that matches can be far more exciting.

Scream 'fact? really?'

can't speak for the pro evo mode but i heard the fifa developers say they'd left goalkeepers out as player controllable until they could work out a good way to control them. Something like that...

Surely you'd be bored for a lot of the matches anyway?

I'd read that, aye. Still a bitter disappointment.

I'm a goalkeeper myself, so there's no way I'll be bored. There's a lot of tension in being the man between the sticks, a lot more pressure and you've always got to be alert even though you won't have possession all the time.

I've still got to play around with goalkeeping control methods myself. Currently getting my inspiration from Top Spin 3, it's all about the positioning and sure-footedness.

Oh man, you made me put the demo on again and see the ball changing direction without even touching anyone and just rolling along in front of Robbie Keane without him even touching it, it accelerating on its own every so often, then stopping dead (also without him touching it) :) seriously, this is some funny shit. You'd have to be a total nutcase to call it good.

The demo is shit. Doesn't mean the full game is.

hmmm i suppose yeah...if like at corners and stuff, you were right close in, players shouting and stuff, the fans abusing you, tense European semi finals, penalty conceded. If you could do the Jens Lehman finger waving celebration like when he saved that Riquelme penalty then football games could die happy.

It's just an example anyway. Take the throw-in thing instead if you like. I can't be bothered to reel off a list of things in PES which have been broken for 10 years with no sign of fixes or improvement.

I used to love PES but I guess when you play the exact same game for nigh 10 years, the exact same flaws which appear in every game start to grate and the new ones in every game just take the piss. It's exactly if the dev time is spent trying to break the game more than it is already.

And then if you put on WE6FE or PSX ISS Pro Evo 2, it's immediately obvious that you're playing a much better game.

Konami have been taking the piss, and finally review scores are down and sales are down - which is the best thing that can happen for the series. If that doesn't give them a kick and prompt them to make an effort on producing an excellent game next time round, there is little hope.

Slight bug about the editor; when I created myself it works fine aside from one small point. You superimpose your photo over the default face, but it kind of fills a circular space rather than mapping over the whole head like in Tiger Woods, so whereas in the photo I've got a beard, on the player I'm now Terry Thomas, and with no option to add the in-game facial hair.

I'd take that bet.

My enjoying PES is by no means done blindly. I have stated my points about PES and can not see anything that would make me feel otherwise, no matter how much people protest.

Calling me the troll is rich, I have done nothing but state my opinion. Because it flies in the face of the general consensus, doesn't mean I am a troll...

I wish I was affiliated with Konami.

Keep it up and you'll get there. They will be needing people like you. :)

ive no axe to grind but you sound like pes defense force, if anything it reinforces the problems with the game that one person feels the need to defend it so vociferously.

im just amazed that the 3rd next gen iteration is basically the same game as pes 4, with some ill-advised tweaks fucking things up. every year its "built from the ground up", and every year they care more about applying physics to billowing corner flags instead of addressing the fact that throw ins DONT WORK, and the other myriad of design flaws.

To be fair though if he is Pes Defence Force then Synchronated must be the FIFA equivalent. I personally think that chin should be left to love PES. Why not, its not hurting you, Talk Show Host or Synchronated. Also, some people are able to not let flaws in games effect their enjoyment quite as much as others. I know after playing PES it isn't the unplayable load of toss some people will have you believe but it certainly isn't the leap forward I wished for. I could most probably over look its faults because in the end I thoroughly enjoy playing it in multiplayer. It does seem however that I have had a hell of a lot of enjoyment out of the FIFA demo this year and will probably give that the nod but I will no doubt find flaws with that after a number of games. Will any of them be big enough for me to bitterly argue over on this forum is yet to be seen.

First bit of sense I've read on here in a while...Probably including my posts. :(

neither game is perfect but pes is utterly treading water, you might aswell pick any of the last 3 versions to play. its not worth the money, and the very definition of a tweaked incremental update.....something EA were pilloried for for years.

again...im not a huge fifa or EA fan either

Chin is just responding to the absolute hysteria on here when it comes to PES. It's a fucking witch hunt if someone says they like it, and frankly, it's pathetic.

As for the game itself, it hasn't moved on enough since no 4 and smells a but stale, that's undeniably true. It's still loads of fun to play, though. I tried the demo of both games, and Fifa just seemed pretty dry and boring. If you don't give a shit about online, or licences, or single player, I think Pro Evo is still the better game. Maybe i'm just more used to it, but I feel like I have way more control and options when i'm playing.

No mate you don't realise that people are actually trying to help the guy.

Your just in the same boat as chin, you need rescued also.

Forget about the Demo you need the game , and you need to play the game and let PES RIP

Or you could do an angel if you really want.

So if you ignore 75% + of the game, you prefer it to FIFA?

Yes, it actually does. Unless from the time of the demo being released they somehow managed delete all the files they had already put towards making the demo and game, redesigned every aspect of the game, removed every single shit feature from the game, made the games core aspects actually WORK (things like ball control and physics) which consequently ended up making PES 2009 into something half decent, and miraculously achieving this BEFORE the full game got released, then I can presume that the full game IS as shit as the demo is.

Actually I imagine that adding on the however many unliscensed teams there are in the full game, and inserting a fucked up online mode that doesn't work, some crap champions league malarky, and a BAP with 2 positions, the amount of shit present to the gamer who made the mistake of buying the full game is actually mulitiplied by about 1000.

There is probably less shit in the local park's uncleaned in 10 years, used dog-poo bags than there is in PES 2009.

If you like the game that's fine, but I don't give a fuck. I care about whether the devs are doing what they should/could be doing with the technology available and how well the game achieves this. I don't come here to read a load of rubbish about how good the game is when it's clearly another flawed cynical update to a once great series, there are other places for that. What real improvements have been implemented and what ongoing flaws fixed? This is meant to be the best gaming forum around populated by intelligent informed gamers and industry types, and the posts should reflect that.

Someone compared PES to GT, this is spot on, Konami have forgotten what they are trying to simulate and have continued with their own brand of football with its roots firmly planted in obsolete technology. It fails as a product, online falls well below the standard set by fifa, as does the presentation.

Here's a perfect example of the laziness of this game - my brother was stupid enough to buy this for 360, so I check to see exactly what he is doing in game. He tells me he is currently "NETWORK during match". Ok, he's online, no details on what teams are involved, what the score is. Basic things that you would come to expect. Is this game made by Seabass and 50 untrained chimps? Did they take 11 of the last 12 months as holidays? Do they work a 1 hour week?

If this is what they achieve with a year, they'd be better bringing us the next version in 2012.

This is the thing. After playing the Xbox360 demo I was saying there is no fucking way I would buy this, I'd rather play the last PS2 one. Then playing the PS3 game on saturday I realised that infact the demo is fucking awful and the PES is still a laugh to play. I'd probably still be buying FIFA though.

Total opposite for me, i thought the demo was okish. Then when I got to play the full game it was awful.

Yes. I only ever play offline multiplayer. I concentrate on the game bits, and they're still as good as they were. I couldn't care less if Ronaldo doesn't really look like Ronaldo, or i'm playing West Midlands Village instead of Villa. Well, obviously it's nice to get that stuff right, but that comes far, far below playing a fun game for me. I appreciate the online is frustrating, but personally, I don't give a fuck.

I think that's a fair comment - it definitely hasn't moved on as much as it should have, and it's great that Fifa is pushing it hard. I'm really just commenting on the hysterics in the thread. It was a good game at Pro Evo 4, and it's the same game with minor improvements. It's still a good game. On the ps2, obviously

This is meant to be the best gaming forum around populated by intelligent informed gamers and industry types, and the posts should reflect that.

I wish!
