Initial K, we're still waiting for you to quantify the 'rubbish' physics and the 'unsatisfying' scoring.

"The X in Y is Z because..."

I'll give you some examples to base a reply on...

"The AI in PES is poor as your team mates never make runs, or always stand in offside positions."

"The goalkeepers in PES are rubbish as they seem to be unable to catch a ball."

If anyone else who decides that FIFA isn't for them for a 'fuzzy' reason could please explain themselves, we may be able to make some progress.

Has anybody else had this demo crash on them (360 version)? This has happened twice today, the whole thing just froze and I couldn't even use the guide.

It better not be my Xbox dying for the second time.

Did that with me when I downloaded it at 1st - I just deleted and downloaded again and it's been fine since.

I'm not sure what Afterbirth thinks you are referring to, Be A Pro mode is absolutely not played from the standard camera angles and does let you see everything from a similar camera view to that in the arena.

I just youtubed the "Be a pro mode" and your right. From looking at certain scenes in the demo i got the impression the game couldn't handle lower cams without chugging.

Consider me told

Its weird because sometimes the replay looks to drop frames and run really badly - yet you CAN slow the camera down to "super slow" using the triggers (like Flatout or Grid) and it looks fantastic and doesn't seem to drop frames or jerk. It certainly plays smoother these days (although 08 did too). I still think its slightly less tactile then PES but that could be the animations.

I too have been really impressed with the demo. Had a fair bit of play time and I'm getting used to it now. Like some others have said, the battle to win headers is brilliant, players have weight to them now. Just wish the demo was bloody longer and you didn't have to have pens every time you draw.

Edit: Anyone managed to find a price cheaper than £37.99 yet?

jeez those advanced skill moves are starting to make it all a little streetfighter esq , which in my book aint no bad thing

There needs to be countermoves!

Jackson had issues earlier, but said they stopped when he was not downloading something else from the marketplace at the same time.

Indeed, the game crashed every time I played but it's been perfect since stopping the downloads.

One of my favourite things about the AI is that it's so much more attacking in this than any PES or FIFA I've played before. It's really refreshing having an end to end game with the CPU. Easily my biggest frustration with one player football games in the past was the constant ball hogging making every match feel like a slog.

The best thing about the skill moves is that they are completely unnecessary towards achieving success, it's a whole layer of depth that you can either ignore entirely, or master and enjoy. Obviously they'll help to a degree, but traditional quality football is always the most important ingredient for goals.

This.

Spent last night trying to execute them in practice, absolutely brilliant stuff.

This and NHL 09 have absorbed my weekend gaming time! :)

I'm loving that advanced skills vid.

Now if only they implemented some system whereby you could save highlights from online games... wouldn't it be great if at any time you could press a button and the game would instantly save the previous 20 seconds of play, and then after the match you could go in and edit the duration etc and upload the clip to your EA webspace ready to show the world.

I played the demo yesterday with Murray. This is definitely going to be the first Fifa game I've owned since Fifa 97. I'd played the last 2 attempts by EA and still couldn't get into it, it didn't feel right and whilst I recognised what they were trying to do, it seemed to fail on too many fronts.

This is lovely though.

The new PES looks just as shite as the last one, too.

NHL 09 lets you save to the console, so I imagine FIFA 09 probably will too.

I was thinking that FIFA09 with its tricks is a little like NHL with it's stick flicks, etc.

That said, I'm certainly more partial to this game, although its bloody hard and i'm bloody shit.

Don't worry, I'm not great either (though that didn't stop me beating Murray all the time :)). I reckon I'll end up getting quite good though. I just ned to force my mind out of the PES way of playing, and also need to tinker with the assisted/none assisted stuff.

Murray and I scored a great goal yesterday though. I'd bombed down the wing, taken it past one player and ran to the byline. I then played a short cross which was cut back to the edge of the 18 yard box where Raul (Murray) met it with a sweet volley in the bottom corner. Fucking SICK.
