Kill bill

I remember my local Art House (at the time) showed some of the films that influence RD. I went to see Kubrik's The Killing (a bit like RD) and City on Fire (not that much like it at all - superficially maybe). QT was pretty much up front about those influences at the time. It amuses me when people try to beat him up about it as though they've caught him cheating or something.

Pardon? It's so close to it it's untrue. It even nabs some of the exact same shots from the film. And then there's the story (undercover cop infiltrates gang, becomes close with one of the criminals, heist goes wrong).

Plot details = so what? RD is a totally unique movie. Watch The Killing for something closer in spirit.

I think some people watch films and see different things. For me the plot is just a tiny part of the package. Two films by different writers and directors (and cast) could share the exact same plot and still be as different as chalk and cheese. I don't think City on Fire very similar to RD.

Finally received this. It's fucking ace, makes a great film even greater. But is it possible to get rid of the Japanese subs (and get English subs when they speak Japanese)?

Unfortunately not.

The only way around it is to rip it and make your own with the English subs for Japanese speaking parts only.

Oh okay. It's not that big of a problem for me, as I've seen the English version anyway. Cheers, Hitch.

The silly t-shirt and funny little Bride model made me get the Japanese boxed version - great fun!

I wonder what sort of cut the dual version will take on? Will QT make it shorter or maybe there is extra footage he could add into it?

Anyone picked it up yet? I had to get the HMV exclusive slipcase version so it would go with volume one on the shelf  and am about to settle down and watch them back to back B)

EDIT - I had to watch the deleted scene on the Vol.2 DVD first though. Comedy genius  Just like all those old kung fu movies with the bad dubbing*

* just wait till you hear the guy's accent

You mean both films put together to form one big long movie, therefore totalling nearly 5 hours and having to be split over 2 DVD's? Kinda like it is now?

No - cut the dirge out and make it into the one good film it should have been rather than one good one and one terrible one.

I went for that one, too, and for the same reason. Sadly there was no freebie like the Pussy Wagon keyring this time. Much to my horror, the pair don't sit 100% perfectly on the shelf together. The title is written slightly bigger on the spine than volume 1 was. In all fairness, they sit 99% perfectly together on the shelf. Is that enough? Not for me. It's worse with the normal boxes, though. The titles are nowhere near level on the spines. I despair.

If I feel the need to buy the special edition, I'll just eBay these two and the Pussy Wagon keyring.

Please tell me you think Volume 2 is the terrible one. If so I may have to hump your leg as a mark of gratitude.

Everyone loves the fucking thing and I was sat there in the cinema absolutely gutted. I cringed at most of it.

Whatever but I'm right about Kill Bill 2. I've justified the reasons why it sucks SO many times. When has anyone actually constructively defended my criticisms? They haven't because I am right. I think everyone loves the thought of a good Tarantino movie, or is blinded by hype or something... I just can't figure it out.

I was bored from the word go. Not because I am impatient or a dumbass but because the pacing was too slow (intended to add weight to the performances but when the dialogue was so throwaway it fell flat on it's face) that I simply wasn't entertained. From the porch scene at the beginning it goes horribly wrong.

Even the training bit grated. Every shot ended with a zoom and Pai Mei flicking his beard. IT WAS FUNNY THE FIRST TIME. NOT EVERY FUCKING SHOT. I wanted to turn to the audience and tell them to stop fucking laughing because they were just doing it for the sake of it rather than through genuine amusement. That sequence should've been in Volume 1 anyway.

And then David Carradine and his big fat stupid ugly Superman face. And the downgrading of the deadly viper assassin squad into what was essentially trailer trash and chavs. And the scene with Bud's boss that is long, pointless and not at all interesting...just like the bit with the pimp, and bill, and the wedding flashback... .ergg..... NO TARANTINO. NO! FUCK OFF!

Too fucking true, Tarantino is still my hero but he should write films, not direct them.
